THE GOP IS INDEED A FAILED STATE - AND TRUMP IS DEFINITELY ITS WARLORD - NOW UPDATED (YET AGAIN)
There is nothing good left in what calls itself the Republican Party, nothing in any one of their office holders, not from any faction. Yes, the party is divided between the pre-Trump GOP and the MAGAts of the Trump Party, but there are no “moderates” left. Those who are “pre-Trump GOP are the ones who were the far right backbenchers who cheered on the destruction created by Newt Gingrich et al - in fact none of them would have gotten into Congress if that had not happened. They re not “moderate” other than they are more the kind to garrote an enemy in his sleep than to stick the shiv in his gut with a face to face smile, like the MAGAts.
Consider that their now-leading “speaker designate”, an Unreconstructed Confederate traitor from an unreconstructed Confederate traitor state, is not only a denier of the 2020 election but the “architect” of the plan that got 100 of the others to sign onto the Texas lawsuit to have the results of the election in the swing states thrown out. He is, in other words, an election denier’s election denier. He is also a supporter of a nationwide 100% no exceptions allowed abortion ban. He refuses to say whether or not he supports further aid to Ukraine.
When his “designated speakerness” was announced last night and the rest of the gargoyles and jackals surrounded him in celebration, their response to a reporter asking him if he still refused to accept the results of the 2020 election was to shout “Get out! Get out! Shut up! Shut up!” When the reporter persisted and asked if he supported Ukraine aid, professional juvenile delinquent Lauren Boebert shouted “You’ve asked your question! Get out!” When the persistent reporter asked him if he supported aid to Israel, he finally replied, “We’re not doing policy tonight.”
Indeed, they won’t be doing any policy any night in the forseeable future. Or any day either.
The previously-designated speaker candidate, Tom Emmer, was excoriated and thrown out for failing to show complete fealty to Trump’s Big Lie, and also because he voted to support same sex marriage and to ratify the results of the 2020 election. On every other issue, he was a Trump supporter in 98% of the votes he cast since showing up in Congress five years ago.
Five years in office. That used to be considered enough time to find out where the nearest men’s room was in the capitol. Johnson’s not much better - he’s been there seven years.
Neither ever sponsored a bill that made it through the House and Senate and was signed by the President.
There is no one in the House Republican conference who knows how things actually work in that institution.
They are all morons, gargoyles, and jackals.
There is no conservative whose word can be trusted farther than it can be heard while wearing noise-canceling headphones.
Yesterday, Sidney Powell - she who pleaded guilty in the Georgia RICO case - announced that she was a victim of the persecution of conservatives by the out-of-control justice system that had railroaded her into making that guilty plea in fear of worse being done to her.
Yesterday Jenna Ellis claimed that “as a Christian” she was ashamed she hadn’t done her due diligence to determine if Trump’s Big Lie was true or not and that “if I knew then what I know now I wouldn’t have done it.” The day before, on her Facebook page, she posted Stop The Steal bullshit and still claimed that the election had been rigged and “stolen” from Trump.
Harry Truman is only more right in 2023 than he was in 1948: “The only ‘good Republicans’ are pushing up daisies.”
They are all spineless, craven, cowardly SCUM.
Waiting for five of these Howdy-Doody puppets to join with Democrats and create a “bipartisan” coalition to save the country is a fool’s errand. Anyone who believes such a thing is possible hasn't been paying attention the past eight years, and the 20 years before that.
There are no “good Republicans” left. The good ones have left the room.
UPDATE:
The speaker-designate, the worthless traitor described above, is now the Speaker of the House, second in line to the Presidency.
We are now, officially, an Unserious Country.
FURTHER UPDATE:
Josh Marshall notes at TPM (Editors Notes, paywalled to nonsubscribers):
I just found out that Johnson and his wife have a podcast about ‘religious conservatism’, basically a heavy focus on abortion bans, opposing gay marriage and the like. Before entering Congress Johnson was a ‘religious liberty’ activist. It’s on Apple Podcasts and Spotify and the rest. You have to figure that opposition researchers are going to be listening to it pretty closely. The first episode I’m listening to is Episode 12 “The Truth about January 6th that You’ve Never Been Told”. After that there’s Episode 14 “Post-Roe America: What Happens Now?” Johnson supports an absolute national ban on abortions.

It almost hurts to hit that "heart/like" icon. But this is spot on.
Reporters have no right to ask questions. They have no right to expect answers. The response was “Get out!” Maybe they should be grateful they weren’t arrested . . . this time. Trump’s people will revenge such impertinence and lack of respect for His Wonderfulness.
