When he was a toddler he was in a car accident. His mother and sister were killed. He was sent to the hospital with, among other injuries, a skull fracture. It was a traumatic brain injury, and one to a developing brain.
His brother is next to him in the hospital with leg injuries, and their dad, wrecked, is commuting & trying to come to terms with a shattered life.
He develops addictions. Lots of people do. People with good parents and bad ones, or no parents. Wealthy and destitute. Did his TBI and the emotional trauma of the accident play a role? Wouldn’t be out of the realm of possibilities.
And then his older brother gets brain cancer and dies.
That’s a lot of stuff to deal with.
Now he’s a 52 year old addict, whose been in and out of treatment programs. His family has fought for him to get and stay clean and sober.
Has he fit be stupid things? Probably. Addicts often do.
Does that mean his father is the head of a nefarious crime syndicate aimed at taking over the world?
No. That would be Trump, an actual criminal with ties to dictators.
Ignoring 1/6 and all the business fraud, any one else with those level classified documents unsecured and without need (even former presidents, who are now private citizens) would already be in jail. They would have been arrested the day the documents were discovered.
Gaslighting. Deflecting. Redirecting. Whatever was on this mysterious laptop, I’ll bet $1000 it wasn’t SCI documents, kept in an unlocked drawer at a social club.
A man who puts "issues" in quotation marks is only slightly below the hero status of one who might consider the same treatment for "dysfunctional." But I'm a terrible word snob and also in a fowl mood. Cluck Cluck
I just want to see a photo of Fetterman standing next to Jordan....too bad they're not in the same legislative branch. But maybe at the State of the Union? I'd love to see the look on Jordan's face realizing how small he is.
If that group of morally upstanding and righteous R's really, truly and sincerely *don't* want to make it about "the prostitute", then they need to find a way to somehow stop talking about the Republican Party itself, considering that since the Donald ditched Stormy and bedded the GOP, it's spent the past 7 years slouching against every lamp post on every street corner in sight.
I doubt there's enough penicillin in the world to cure that crew of what now ails it.
I think this particular crew will likely conjure them up themselves faster than I could possibly think of them, even I were a doctor, and my name was Fauci. That's my hope, at least.
I am so happy that Katie Porter won her election! Love her - the interview that Jon Stewart did with her on his podcast was super. Plus anyone who can wield a whiteboard like she can?
In their excitement to "get" Bidens & liberals - do you think they might be forgetting that the reason they are in DC is to, oh, I dont know, maybe represent their constituents - you know the people who actually voted them in - expected them to have "policies", pass laws, do their job for the American people?
Sounds like none of the slobbering reporters had any idea of asking those questions - our wonderful investigative media, right?
The follow up I suppose relates to Mr. Hoyer's future as Minority Leader; will he follow Pelosi's example? Clyburn is a fixture and will be there until he is carried out and deserves all the respect he's given but could turn over CBC leadership to the next generation too.
Pelosi is sticking around to help guide the new team through perilous times none of them have ever been around before.
I'm still not that certain myself that Jefferies is the right guy, but a replay of his greatest verbal hits on Republicans reminds me he can punch at close range. But Pelosi's ability to slit a throat and have the victim thank her is a skill that needs to be learned.
At least Jeffries has some guides to whisper suggestions and some pretty strong support players in Raskin, AOC, Khanna, Bush, etc. if they can get past their ego barriers.
I completely agree and wish them well because it would accrue to all of our benefit. AOC in particular has matured substantially in her time in office and become quite a creditable legislator.
How appropriate to quote Macbeth. TFG, Gym, and the rest of the maggots are surely Lady Macbeth, descending into madness as they furiously scrub their hands while screaming "out damned spot".
I don't think they'll ever arrive at Lady M's insight into the enormity of her fuck-up. and let's remember that her insight arrives only after she's gone crazy. and even then, it's pretty minimal.
Never has real life seemed so readily adaptable to the screen as a grotesque animated spectacular. It's all right here. TCINLA has created several outlines that hit the mark in capturing Republican politicians in their totally out of control performances.
'Quiverin' Qevin can't drive the Republican clown car 10 feet in a straight line because the Fwee-dumb Kawkuss in back will be throwing their feces out the windows at passers-by and taking turns grabbing for the steering wheel.'
Stay tuned. This is beyond Reality Television. Remember that star from The Apprentice? He's back!
Some things just never change, do they? These drooling, shit-throwing clown monkeys couldn't wait to tell the world their genius plans to try and bring Biden down. Well, OK, we knew that was coming so it's not news. When are they going to tell the world their plans for improving life in the U.S.? Not holding my breath.
I can’t wait for them to try to kill SS and Medicare (the third rail in politics as Colbert called it). May be some recalls if old MAGAts get a whiff. Dems didn’t bother to broadcast it, maybe they will now.
Sad to say, I had to look up the Dylan piece (it is quite appropriate). Pity that one of the most beautiful songs in musical theatre is so fitting here as well! It will take me a while to replace that image with the original.
"Desolation Row" is the greatest American epic poem after "Howl" written in the 20th Century in my not-so-humble opinion. Go download the album "Highway 61 Revisited," my candidate for Best Dylan Album and Greatest Rock Album Ever. Dylan at his height. Every piece a keeper that will blow your mind. Plus the session musicians were the Greatest of their Generation. Mike Bloomfield from Butterfield and the Electric Flag, Al Kooper on keyboard, all of them great.
usually, we agree. but I'm still a "Blonde On Blonde" guy. I admit that your argument for "Highway 61 Revisited" is a respectable one. and yes, there are no weak tracks ("Blonde On Blonde" does have a few, but there's more of it). and my "Blonde On Blonde" thing has a lot to do with the contents of many acid trips c. 1969. and isn't "Kaddish" a trifle more accomplished than "Howl?" one could argue that its focus is more personal, so it might not qualify as "epic." in any event, my estimation of "Desolation Row" has only grown from year to year. and how many songs on "rock" albums feature Ezra Pound? I know ONE.
so much for "higher" criticism. I watched those putzes (you've pretty much exhausted the use of "clowns," at least for today) and my mouth sort of dropped open in the middle of my lox cream cheese on an everything bagel. it was THAT fucking crazy. deja vue all over again. after all, how did Benghazi ultimately work out for them? a few of my ill-advised neighbors LOVE talking Hunter Biden as an all-purpose kigmy, but the leap to Joe isn't gonna get them anywhere because there's no there there. it's fucking hilarious that this is what they choose to mention, given the guy they used to fellate (at least rhetorically) on a more-or-less daily basis. and I loved (in an ugly way, to be sure) their trying to have it both ways with "the prostitute" mentioning it as many times as possible, but insisting they have no interest in such things. I understand the latter, since members of congress and their buddies are famously avid customers of Washington sex workers. or am I giving them too much credit for veiled candor?
I sometimes find myself wondering if this much loathing is good for my health. but it sure FEELS empowering. it certainly sounds like you might have the same issue, although in your case it definitely IS empowering.
I got to see him. First time I went to The Fillmore in 1967. He'd just left Butterfield the year before and started Electric Flag. Butterfield was the top of the bill that night, Bloomfield was the opener. In between was some English band nobody had heard of, making their US debut.
Cream.
Everybody kind of forgot about Butterfield and Bloomfield that night. :-)
...and just for the record, my ringtone is "Like a Rolling Stone." that first snare bang does something very desirable to my neurotransmitters. plus, it's a good litmus test when I'm talking to someone I haven't known very long. if the reaction is negative (or worse, mocking), I know there's no point in continuing to cultivate the relationship.
Republicans Lay Out Biden Investigations, but Democrat-Aligned Groups Promise Counteroffensive
“ Hours after winning control of the House, Republicans began laying out plans on Thursday for investigations of President Biden, his administration and his family, and were met with promises of a multimillion-dollar counteroffensive from a network of groups allied with Democrats.”
Thought for the day, because I have had bacon this morning.....if Trump does not win the Republican presidential nomination in 2024, I would expect him to run as an "independent", as a spoiler, to deny Ron DeSantis or any other Republican a victory, if he had been rejected by the party.....let's get this going.....🙂
Sigh.
The thing that gets me regarding Hunter:
When he was a toddler he was in a car accident. His mother and sister were killed. He was sent to the hospital with, among other injuries, a skull fracture. It was a traumatic brain injury, and one to a developing brain.
His brother is next to him in the hospital with leg injuries, and their dad, wrecked, is commuting & trying to come to terms with a shattered life.

that's a bet I wouldn't take. but why not up the ante? and that was a lovely summary of Hunter Biden's very tough "issues."
Some of us know those issues very well.
we do indeed.
A man who puts "issues" in quotation marks is only slightly below the hero status of one who might consider the same treatment for "dysfunctional." But I'm a terrible word snob and also in a fowl mood. Cluck Cluck

He's not just small physically.
Indeed!
I doubt there's enough penicillin in the world to cure that crew of what now ails it.
just try to conjure a few antibiotic-resistant strains of whatever ails them.
I think this particular crew will likely conjure them up themselves faster than I could possibly think of them, even I were a doctor, and my name was Fauci. That's my hope, at least.
Boom
Nobody says it better than you and Bob Dylan TC. What a pathetic group of idiotic fools these people are. It truly is Desolation Row.
I am so happy that Katie Porter won her election! Love her - the interview that Jon Stewart did with her on his podcast was super. Plus anyone who can wield a whiteboard like she can?
This is the one race I really sweated. So glad she won.
It was my $30 that did it, hahaha
Well, I sure appreciate your donation!! Whatever works, right?
she's sort of my favorite.
Same here.
In their excitement to "get" Bidens & liberals - do you think they might be forgetting that the reason they are in DC is to, oh, I dont know, maybe represent their constituents - you know the people who actually voted them in - expected them to have "policies", pass laws, do their job for the American people?

Is your designation of Mr. Jeffries as the presumptive replacement for Mrs. Pelosi just that or have I missed a news report somewhere?
Nice rundown, as usual, and an exceptional musical bed.
The word is, he's Da Man. Steny Hoyer and Jim Clyburn both endorsed him.
Doesn't get much stronger than that unless it comes from Herself. Thanks.
The follow up I suppose relates to Mr. Hoyer's future as Minority Leader; will he follow Pelosi's example? Clyburn is a fixture and will be there until he is carried out and deserves all the respect he's given but could turn over CBC leadership to the next generation too.
Hoyer is indeed following her example.
Pelosi is sticking around to help guide the new team through perilous times none of them have ever been around before.

I thnk he and AOC have a ways to go.
I completely agree and wish them well because it would accrue to all of our benefit. AOC in particular has matured substantially in her time in office and become quite a creditable legislator.
Count me apprehensive re Jefferies.
A rare skill indeed, hahahaha
How appropriate to quote Macbeth. TFG, Gym, and the rest of the maggots are surely Lady Macbeth, descending into madness as they furiously scrub their hands while screaming "out damned spot".
I love my smartypants readers. :-)

Exactly. Your plans, man? Where are the plans ... for us?
"We'd all love to see the plan . . . ." Revolution, The Beatles
Another good one.
I can’t wait for them to try to kill SS and Medicare (the third rail in politics as Colbert called it). May be some recalls if old MAGAts get a whiff. Dems didn’t bother to broadcast it, maybe they will now.
we all know they don't have one. not a trace.
Absolutely! My favorite Dylan album.
I knew you had good taste, Karen. :-)

Aye yay yay. Mike Bloomfield. Smooth as silk.
I got to see him. First time I went to The Fillmore in 1967. He'd just left Butterfield the year before and started Electric Flag. Butterfield was the top of the bill that night, Bloomfield was the opener. In between was some English band nobody had heard of, making their US debut.

What a couple years at the Fillmore East. Allman Bros best fabulous iconic album recorded there. That venue was a moment in time. Love it.
Love you TC. I love how you have the transporter room from Star Trek in your pen.
And Cream? Yikes. A merge in the stars.
🗽

"I saw a highway of diamonds with nobody on it
I saw a black branch with blood that kept drippin'
I saw a room full of men with their hammers a-bleedin'
I saw a white ladder all covered with water
I saw ten thousand talkers whose tongues were all broken
I saw guns and sharp swords in the hands of young children
And it's a hard, it's a hard, it's a hard, and it's a hard
It's a hard rain's a-gonna fall"

You're on fire with the MAGAt zingers.

That the fear in the GOP.
