Thanks for summing it up---as it continues to change...... Biden is putting some bite into his words. Not mentioned in TAFM this time, but DeSantis continues to be a slimebag (and worse) while the NYT report on Repub counties in FL shows that the folks want Federal money, complain that the Feds aren't there yet, but hate the Federal government. Prejudice processes things in a strange way---it always has and will. The battle for the soul of America lies ahead. Onward, TC. Hope you and Robert Hubbell have a good conversation. You two are on my morning must read list with HCR and recently Lucian Truescott and then Timothy Snyder when he publishes. Peace and Courage in these perilous times.
Lucian's newsletter is very eclectic. he does excellent political/social/military analysis (West Point grad, grandson of the Lucian K. Truscott who was setior Allied commander in Italy in WW2), a longtime writer, novelist, and overall interesting person. Lots of cool stories of his storied life back in the 60s-70s when he was at the Village Voice. Thomas Jeffersion is his sixth great grandfather.
All true. This Saudi overreach can play to our favor. If Biden makes an open set of threats to the Saudis, it gives the lunkheads in the American public someone to blame and hate. They love doing that. And frankly, why should we play nice with the Saudi’s? Clearly they play games and try to screw Democrats. They still bankroll the nasty guys. F ‘em.
And you think gas is expensive in LA? Ha! Try San Diego. Already substantially over $6.25 for premium. I’ll be paying over $7 by November. It’s robbery.
You guys are simply getting gouged. Personally, I think the entire fossil fuel industry should be nationalized and CEO pay would be properly linked to the retail price of every petroleum product.
Not much has changed since good old John D. manipulated the whole thing.
How pathetic is it when out of one side of our mouths we yammer about climate change and cutting back on our "carbon footprint," and out of the other we humiliate ourselves by throwing principles to the wind because we want cheap gasoline. And the oil companies are laughing all the way to the bank.
Back in the 70's we carpooled, took buses, traded in our SUVs and Chrysler Cordobas for K-Cars. What are we doing now?
It's time to "wean" the oil companies off the federal teat - no more subsidies after this second attempt to tilt the voting playing field by jacking up prices. And perhaps some rulings from the EPA mandating certain things that will cost them money. Yeah, it's dirty politics, but the fix with the oil companies is in. The schmucks should learn that you do not screw the guy with the big checkbook..... The best part is that even the Trumpers hate the oil companies for gouging on gas prices, so this will be popular.....
what you're saying is true, of course. but do th "Trumpers" actually KNOW who's actually to blame? it seems to me that most of them tend to blame Biden for everything they don't like. it's easy and it's also what they want to believe. these are NOT folks who believe in nuance. for example, they're really eager to blame Biden for inflation, which is not something any president is in much of a position to fix.
Very true, but the oil companies are really putting their thumbs on the scale for the Republicans, expecting that the Repubs will be favorable to the oil business..... Actions like this should have consequences. I know that the MAGA crowd will accept conditions they will not accept from Biden or any other Democrat, as long as the Republicans are in power..... It is time to show the oil folks that short-term political gains may well be offset by serious future political losses in government regulations, and a windfall profits tax - another approach that will no doubt be popular on both sides of the aisle.
It is past time for the US to quit supporting MBS and his shit hole in the desert. Why we kiss their ass for oil must stop. I say cancel sales of all military equipment snd spare parts right now. Also ban the sales of parts for any US made commercial aircraft. Provide nothing for the new insane Line city in the desert. FSA!
I just checked the San Diego Gas Prices map and tonight, at the NEX (Navy Exchange) gas station, the price is for Regular is $5.99. Across the street and down the block, the prices are in the mid-$6xx range. I have several not-urgent errands that I'm putting off as long as possible, especially since I can walk to the nearby library and grocery store.
I've always marveled about how often, during my 50 years in Southern California, California refineries go down for "maintenance" (two at present, I believe) at the most "inopportune" moment for the people who depend on their products. /s
TC, seems you hit a nerve with your fellow modeler. I can put up with a lot of things but greed and selfishness is not one of them. You are better off being blocked by him.
speaking of Jared (and I very, very skeptical about the "boytoy" thing) there's an hilariously snarky review of Jared's "book" in the new issue of the New York Review of Books. link is below.

I'm honored by the company you put me in. thanks.
Same here but add Steve Schmidt and Thom Hartmann. I will have to check out Lucian Truescott.
Thanks TC for your summation.
Caveat Emptor: Lucian is a personal friend.

Just saw that the NEX station at Nimitz & Rosecrans is $5.99 for Regular.

from what I observe on the streets around my apartment, they're buying large SUV's. like crazy.

I agree in every particular.
It's what they've been conditioned to do by Faux Snooze.

Yes!!
Thanks for this heads-up.
Thank you. Greatly satisfying to read of possible remedies.

I have become a fan of delivery. Particularly with the need to not be out of the house for extended periods.

'tis a wonderment, for sure. (/snark)

Yeah, I didn't think of it as a loss.

Once again, I cannot like this. Fuckknuckles.
