I bet Trump is fuming. He helped his Russian pal and almost succeeded. Now, he can sit in the courtroom and feel like more of a failure than he is. If that's possible. I was thinking earlier that because of his "forbidding" the speaker to pass the aid and immigration bill months ago, probably thousands of Ukrainians and Russians have died. Add that to the Covid deaths and OMG!!!
No doubt Trump is fuming because it's what his parasympathetic nervous system does, but I also think he's taken note of what TC described as a changing wind and fears he's losing ground to Biden. Johnson senses that too, as demonstrated in his comments to the press after the vote was taken. He made of point of blaming Democrats, attacking the Senate version of the aid bill, and insisting that the GOP House has just been too darned busy with passing a budget to get around to the aid bill until now. I laughed 'til I cried. What a disingenuous jerk.
Definitely Liz and Adam have loads of integrity. I'd let Liz borrow my beloved car if she were in Boston and needed a car. (Provided she knows how to drive stick.)
Something interesting to bear in mind about Johnson. The other day, Jamie Raskin tore James Comer a new anal portal in the Oversight Committee hearing. Clearly, he thinks Comer is the traitor Comer is. But he had said at one point that Johnson is a "sweet" person--I think he's considered likable. Well, did anyone on EITHER side find Kremlin Kevin McCarthy, the Bakersfield Benedict Arnold without the courage and known supplier of the physical and fiscal desires of Lev Parnas, LIKABLE?
I'd thought that when he was seated, there was a lot of concern that he WASN'T much good at raising money. did something change? or am I just confused?
He got connected to all the Speaker donor lists. The far rightie doors probably love having a Young Earth Creationist election denier same sex marriage opponent to give money to.
in Little Mikie's case, it was easy to think he might be a nice guy because of his appearance, combining Clark Kent with a deer-in-headlights expression. I even suspended my reflex hatred of Republicans for about fifteen minutes, until I found out that he was a proud Young Earth Creationist.
and then there was that New Yorker profile. by the time he got to fulminating over the "obvious weaponization of the Justice Department" against The Fat Fuck, I was ready to start warming up the tar.
I piss on his eyes. yet the scumbag is gonna make it into the history books. I mean the big fat ones, in which no pebble is left unexamined because--let's face it--he's a pebble. a BIGOTED pebble as well. I toyed with comparing him to a Sea Urchin, but (having once stepped on a Sea Urchin during an acid trip on the godforsaken island of Hydra) I figured that'd be giving him too much credit. stepping on a Sea Urchin SUCKS. as does LSD-induced (or do I mean "inspired?") sunstroke. both are quite formidable (and has anyone noticed that now we're supposed to pronounce "formidable" the way I learned was incorrect, with the accent on the second syllable?), whereas Mike Johnson...not so much.
Rattlesnakes are actually good creatures. The rattle evolved (only once) as a way to provide a warning so that they wouldn't have to waste venom. Venom is expensive to produce. There is an African American folktale, How The Snake Got His Rattle, which is in a book, Black Folktales, by Julius Lester. The interesting thing is this particular folktale shows an understanding of why the rattle evolved, although in the book, the snake gets his venom first, through the intervention of God, in an effort to prevent the other animals from stepping on the snake all the time. But then, the snake is killing the other animals all over the place, and one of them goes up to God, who's sitting in his rocking chair with his cigar, which Mrs. God hates, and explains the situation, and how bad it is. At this point, God comes up with the rattle, and the problems cease.
A wonderful book devoted to rattlesnakes, with no deus ex machina intervention, or anything close: Landscape with Reptile: Rattlesnakes in an Urban World, by Thomas Palmer. Beautifully written series of essays on different aspects of rattlesnakes.
In fact, it creates a wonderful possibility: Democrats get Johnson to go forward by promising to save him, then don't, and say, we never said we'd do that, and it's our word against his. It makes him look even dumber.
Because when they go low, we never get a rusty knife that hasn't been sharpened lately and cut off their testicles without using any anesthetic. Which is what we should be doing.
What an effing unnecessary loss of life and infrastructure in Ukraine while the MAGAts got their Shit together. Happy for the passage, but what a waste of time and resources.
Yes. Yes. The winners are not on this side of the Atlantic given the time, lives unnecessarily lost, and the setback in Ukraine victory because of the indefensible Congressional dickering.
Winston knew us well. Did chump give the go ahead for the passage of the bills? Can’t imagine that Mikie would go against him. Maybe chump wants to wait and hand over Kiev and Washington at the same time. May he become more irrelevant every hour of every day.
I’m skeptical of Mike Johnson. He’s a skunk in mink’s clothing. He’s there for one purpose - overturn the 2024 election by doing what Republicans failed to do four years ago - Challenge the electoral college votes and vote by state to overturn the people’s vote.
Former Republican Lt. Governor of Georgia, Geoff Duncan, just blasted Himself on CNN, comparing Himself to a failed Ponzi scheme and claiming President Biden will win in November. Ouch! Reread The Winds Have Changed: chills a second time. May you be well.
My Blood Pressure has been in a better place for the last 24 hours. This is awesome! Going to try not to say anything bad about Mike Johnson for the next week. I try not to think about how many Ukrainians died unnecessarily because of the stupid delay. Like all the unnecessary deaths from covid - due to MAGA Moronics. Maybe Johnson learned something.
I think MJ really did some serious soul searching before getting the bill(s) passed. But the way he started slamming Democrats while the dust was settling shows he's going to reestablish his conservative bona fides. Which is kind of an oxymoron when you think of it. Because this brand of conservatism has no bona in its fides.
Doing that is stupid - there's still the motion to vacate and he needs the D votes. Piss them off like that and he's going to find out what FAFO means.
it's even funnier if if the rabid pit bull (and I HATE slandering pit bulls, who are wonderful dogs) has a bully stick. it adds a pun (the "bona" part...I assume we all know what a bully stick is) to the mix.
Great news! We needed this aid package. It should have passed last September. All the Ukrainian civilian deaths are now on what teensy tiny consciences the Magats have,
Do you think MTGaetz will spend the enforced week off stewing enough to bring on a stroke or something. Not deadly, of course: just enough to totally impair the ability to speak or write.
Alright, let's get real here. We've got a serious issue on our hands, and it's time we addressed it head-on. We're talking about the fact that our government seems to have no problem throwing billions of dollars at other countries, while our own people are struggling to make ends meet. It's a situation that's both frustrating and heartbreaking, and it needs to change.
Look, I'm all for helping those in need, both at home and abroad. It's part of what makes America great - our willingness to step up and lend a hand when others are in trouble. But what I can't wrap my head around is why we're not showing that same level of concern for our own citizens.
We've got kids going to schools that are falling apart, with outdated textbooks and not enough teachers to go around. We've got seniors who can't afford their medication, and veterans who are sleeping on the streets after serving our country with honor and bravery. And yet, instead of investing in our own communities, we're sending money overseas like it's going out of style.
It's not right, plain and simple. We've got the resources to make a real difference here at home, to give our people the support and opportunities they need to thrive. But instead, we're letting them down, time and time again.
I'm not saying we should turn our backs on the rest of the world. But I am saying that we need to get our priorities straight. We need to make sure that we're taking care of our own, that we're investing in education, healthcare, infrastructure, and all the things that make a strong and healthy society.
And let's talk about our military for a second. We've got bases that are in desperate need of upgrades, and service members who aren't getting paid nearly enough for the sacrifices they make every single day. It's a disgrace, and it needs to be addressed.
So here's what I'm proposing. Let's take a good, hard look at our budget, and let's start allocating our resources where they're needed most. Let's put our money where our mouth is, our votes were they will matter, and show that we truly care about our own people.
I know it's not going to be easy. There are a lot of competing interests and priorities to balance. But I also know that we're a nation of problem-solvers, of innovators and dreamers who never back down from a challenge.
So let's roll up our sleeves and get to work. Let's be the country that we can all be proud of, one where every person has the chance to succeed and thrive. It's time to put America first, and that starts with taking care of our own.
Am I wrong? Misguided? Missing something? Too much to ask? Yell at me. But talk to me about this situation. Please.
I wish I could say I popped a bottle of champagne when they finally passed the UK aid & just took some time off to relish the victory. But I went right into feeling suspicious about Johnson's 180 & specifically how Trump / PUtin's directives were given. I can't imagine that pleas from Zelensky & just about everyone else convinced Johnson to do the right thing. He is part of the evil takeover & his bio is downright weird. I follow Ukraine news daily & I have a lot of the atrocities to overcome before I celebrate the sense of relief for very long. A Ukrainian woman who lost her soldier husband on the front lines the other day was so full of grace & optimism when asked what she wanted to tell Americans , 'I believe Americans have heart' , she believed we'd pass the bill. Such grace in her profound grief shifted me from shouting at CSPAN moments earlier where T.Snyder eloquently tried to wake up the traitors. We take a risk by caring about injustices but the risk is greater to not pay attention. I just would benefit from a longer sense of relief but all the BS keeps piling up. Slava Ukraine. Appreciate the string of great posts this week,TC

Excellent!
He has zero integrity, like every Repub since Everett Dirksen. Well, maybe Liz and Adam
Definitely Liz and Adam have loads of integrity. I'd let Liz borrow my beloved car if she were in Boston and needed a car. (Provided she knows how to drive stick.)
Speaker Moses will be gone soon. Don't expect the Democrats to save his ass, either.
If a bunch of Russian Conscripts died, that's on Putin. The dead and mangled Ukrainian Patriotsxare on Moses Johnson and the Angry Child Caucus.
I love the Churchill quote. You just made my day. Thank you and aloha from Hawaii 👍🌺

If you like diamondback rattlesnakes, you'll like My Kevin.
I think his only redeeming feature was his ability to raise bribe funds, erm, I meant "donations".
He is the one I blame the most for resurrecting the devil
not so sure about the Devil, but he's sure responsible for a lot of dead bodies.
He has tried hard to be the worst of the worst

Lots of toadies might be considered likable, but never by me.
In fact, it creates a wonderful possibility: Democrats get Johnson to go forward by promising to save him, then don't, and say, we never said we'd do that, and it's our word against his. It makes him look even dumber.
Now you KNOW that wont happen? This is the DEMOCRATS you are talking about. We just dont do bad stuff like that!
Precisely the problem!
Hardball desperately needed
Yup! Just think about the nasty things that would be said if they did that.
Same nasty things they say anyway. Some will say to each other, damn, they are doing what we do…
alas!
Dems will NEVER
Because when they go low, we never get a rusty knife that hasn't been sharpened lately and cut off their testicles without using any anesthetic. Which is what we should be doing.
I LIKE it...
I agree. But that fact may matter, unfortunately.
What an effing unnecessary loss of life and infrastructure in Ukraine while the MAGAts got their Shit together. Happy for the passage, but what a waste of time and resources.

Spot on, Gail.

Be wary of Mike Johnson, even though he did the right thing. He still thinks he is the appointed Moses of our time. He is like a snake in the grass.
He IS a snake in the grass. A hungry rattler.
Exactly
well yeah...that WAS the intention. but if TFF has changed his mind, who knows what could happen.
in any event, tomorrow will be very, very interesting.
Former Republican Lt. Governor of Georgia, Geoff Duncan, just blasted Himself on CNN, comparing Himself to a failed Ponzi scheme and claiming President Biden will win in November. Ouch! Reread The Winds Have Changed: chills a second time. May you be well.

He'll probably test you on that.
Won’t be long. They are beyond learning
I think MJ really did some serious soul searching before getting the bill(s) passed. Bona files? More like a rabid pit bull with a bone.
it's even funnier if if the rabid pit bull (and I HATE slandering pit bulls, who are wonderful dogs) has a bully stick. it adds a pun (the "bona" part...I assume we all know what a bully stick is) to the mix.
no fides either...
It’s about time! I feel like the sun came back out and I can actually
breathe again. 🌞🌻
If we haven't tried absolutely everything else, we've certainly come close in the supplemental appropriations discussion. Thanks for the update TC.

Just wonderful news for
Ukraine 🇺🇦! Am glad Mike
Johnson finally said NO to
rabble/rumble faction in his
part of the house.
We'll see who calls whose

on the 29th. Dems are q
waiting. 😉

Thanks much, and you're totally right about Ukrainians.
