There has been a wave of articles all day today, quoting remarks from Republicans, - both in the House and Senate -publicly acknowledging that the House Republicans’ vote tomorrow for formal authorization of an impeachment inquiry into President Biden is nothing more than a political stunt.
Speaking of Republicans. . .”Speaker”Johnson met with Zelenskyy today. Speaking out of both sides of his mouth, Johnson said he supports Ukraine, but apparently only with thoughts and prayers. He said Ukraine does not have a strategy to win and the American penny-wise, pound-foolish people want to know why not, and when will the war end. No strategy to win? Might that be a secret, maybe, not to be shared with a party who invite Orban to give them advice on helping Putin to prevail?
Perhaps people got used to the former guy telling them he could just snap his fingers and “make things happen.” Or they watch too many movies about wars that already happened, which is why the outcome is known and the strategy is clear. Or they feel they are entitled to criticize Ukraine because they think they paid for a quick victory, when all they got was a boring stalemate.
Mikey asked for two things he knew Ukraine could not give: their "strategy" for winning and "oversignt" by the U.S. Say what? He expects Ukraine to reveal its military strategy to HIM and to a House of traitors, much less to any other country AND he expects Ukraine to allow the U.S. to monitor its war of survival? Of course not. He deliberately used his wishy washy "skills" as a lawyer to provide cover for following orders from Mar a Lago and, by extension, Russia.
Could the payoff possibly be cushy think-tank positions after his 'tour' as Speaker? Or is it the threat of what might happen on a dark night if he does not toe the line.
I'm with you Tom. I spend part of each day railing at npr! Eventually though I get smart and write in my journal instead or prepare for antiracism training. It is interesting to listen to Liz Cheney talk about her book and the state of the gop. Colbert had a pretty good interview last night. The gop folks, Cheney included, refuse to connect the dots from their rabid past to what is going on now. The orange cheeto is, as Colbert indicated, an avatar for where the party has come from. She doesn't agree. Oh well, she wouldn't. How could she? Her entire family is implicated in today's fascist gop. She'd have to take responsibility.
Loved how Colbert pushed back on her Trump as an” aberration” theory. She can “connect the dots”. Although she can’t…because she’s smart enough to realize those dots all circle back.
As far as I am aware, only Stuart Stevens has come close to grappling with his party’s history which, inevitably, led to the brown shirts of today’s GOP.
Exactly, Linda! Thank you for saying so. I appreciate her having a spine in regards to the January 6 investigation but at then of the day instead of TC's over cooked angle hair it's just Fettuccine and not al dente.
Tom, you do hurl some damn harsh words however, and words are speech objects. They are always fully demeaning and go straight to the bullseye of the intended target. 🎯 You make me proud.
Two months CO with best friend whose 4th stage metastatic breast cancer spread to bones and now four spots in liver … not good when cancer start to oread to organs and meds have stopped working plus
Have been to CT ..there now and tons of Hospice Hospital work as we have 800 volunteers but some are snowbirds and we are needed
Speaking of obits, the one I'd most love to read is that of TFG. It would feel like a HUGE weight off of our backs. I'd like him to have a month in prison, but I don't want to wait even a year for him to kick the bucket.
After that, Mike JOhnson and JD Vance. I particularly loathe Vance because he's such a traitor to the image of himself in his book.
from the very beginning, though, I had this feeling that Vance wasn't playing for real. maybe it was his barely hidden sense of entitlement; his conviction that he DESERVED what he got.
if he hadn't made that movie deal, we wouldn't be talking about him, would we?
I didn't know about the movie deal. But I'd heard a moderate amount about the book. So as far as I'm concerned we're talking about him without the movie deal. But the world works differently around me.
Go ahead and throw something. A leftover pumpkin would do nicely. A big wind-up and let it rip. Then listen if anything popped in you shoulder or arm, probably shoulder. Then ice the elbow. Just don't hit a cat, as they will all be just sitting there watching and amused, then they will go and sniff the pumpkin and leave you alone in pain. And you will all feel better for it.
What the GOP is doing is histrionically waving and jerking a dead rattler in the air to make it appear they are somehow overpowering the rattler, something they can do almost endlessly until the rattler starts to stink and the easily awed maga gapers have all moved on to the next great conspiracy theory.
actually, I HAVE thrown things and the game ain't worth the candle. I lost a job once throwing a telephone to avoid hitting someone. it felt great until the phone was about half on its way to its inevitable collision with the wall.
Go ahead and throw things Tom, at least metaphorically in the form of these fired-up little essays you write. Eventually the salubrious influence these gems have on the population of our beleaguered republic might succeed in getting the MAGA morons thrown out of the offices they now disgrace with their traitorous presences. It's ironic that a group of so-called legislators who are willing to pursue an impeachment inquiry against Biden without any credible evidence are eagerly providing lots of evidence of treason for the inquiry yet to come sponsored by We, the American people, into the seditious actions on the part of known GOP insurgents now smugly betraying the oaths they swore to uphold the Constitution. Is there a man or woman of integrity and honor among these miscreants. I believe the "evidence" now mounting in this dark hour will show that there is not. They are fascist scum all and there is a plethora of proof to substantiate such a contention.
"They all have backbones made of a single strand of overcooked angel hair pasta" Hey, Tom! You're reaching the rarefied heights of Jeff Tiderich! Fabulous!!!
In other words - the lemmings are following their leader once more! Too bad there isnt an actual cliff for them to roll over.

Mikey was for Ukraine aid before he was against it. Flip flop? I would like to know just how his mind was changed.
Yes, very wishy-washy. But his voice is so nice, he could be an emcee on game shows, someday.
The sooner the better with the game show gig.
Could the payoff possibly be cushy think-tank positions after his 'tour' as Speaker? Or is it the threat of what might happen on a dark night if he does not toe the line.
Who knows?
a genuinely splendid insight!
Carol, you mean he supports Ukraine with tots and pears, don't you?
Maybe. What do you suppose?
A friend made up that term, when she got so fed up with "thoughts and prayers"!

Boomerang

He's the only one I've seen who exhibits actual remorse, but then again he may still be voting FOP because of their disdain for the libs.
He's campaigning for Democrats.
That's actual repentance. Hat's off to him.
Exactly, Linda! Thank you for saying so. I appreciate her having a spine in regards to the January 6 investigation but at then of the day instead of TC's over cooked angle hair it's just Fettuccine and not al dente.
hence my own reservations. she did one right thing.
cool.
I hope it achieves what she'd like it to achieve.
I'm pretty sure we don't like the same movies.
I figure I can live with that.
Tom, you do hurl some damn harsh words however, and words are speech objects. They are always fully demeaning and go straight to the bullseye of the intended target. 🎯 You make me proud.
Flattery will get you everywhere, Susan. :-)

To get your response love Marsha
Fooled me! I thought you were heading for a lecture to TC about cleaning up his language. 🤣 I totally agree with you. 🏆👏🏼⭐️
Naw. I wouldn’t want to be an unsuspecting troll bumbling in to TCinLA’s Substack.
I wouldn't want to reduce you to your component electrons, Susan. :-)
Sounds like a total blast.
: )
Evidence schmevidence is all they have.

You are SO right, David. When I read your sentence about reading the obit for the orange sadist, I found myself able to take a deep breath. Thank you.
You're most welcome kdsherpa!
from the very beginning, though, I had this feeling that Vance wasn't playing for real. maybe it was his barely hidden sense of entitlement; his conviction that he DESERVED what he got.

It was a halfassed book that libs thought they had to pay attention to while they tried to lessen their disdain for white trash. And the movie sucked.
And a traitor to the good people of Appalachia.
that's for sure! Of course the biggest traitor to Appalachia is JD Vance, who grew up there.
Gov't of Putin is what the GOP and its base have devolved down to.
I got 4 "emergency" text msgs from Dem candidates,
with family photos no less,
this afternoon that Johnson
was bringing an "Impeachment" vote, not an
Inquiry, to the House floor tonight. There were, of course, links where I could donate $ to stop this. I blocked them all. And it's
only Tuesday and not even
2024 yet.
You have to impeach for high
crimes and misdemeanors while in office. There's ZERO
evidence Joe Biden has blown his nose in public, let
alone committed any crimes.
Dysfunctional republicans,
one and all. Selling our country and allies out.
Traitors!
all.
Gov't of putin. I like that.
I went to Antarctica for 3 weeks to get away from it all. I recommend it. It really helped, although it got even worse while I was away....
Antarctica is too cold for me. Although it should be sunny this time of year.
not to mention a majorly significant schlep.
indeed! Although I say that while contemplating taking a surface trip cross-country (car) for the first time since 1975 (bicycle).
Our reminder, as if we need one, that it is impossible to be both a loyal republican and a loyal American.

I needed that laugh.

No Ketsup, Tom.
😂
that's at least two of us.
actually, I HAVE thrown things and the game ain't worth the candle. I lost a job once throwing a telephone to avoid hitting someone. it felt great until the phone was about half on its way to its inevitable collision with the wall.
Thee and me both, Brother Thomas!

What a bunch of losers.
