My feeling is that the current Democratic leadership simply does not realize how critical and how outdated their view of US politics is. My feeling is that the current Democratic leadership simply does not realize how critical and how outdated their view of US politics is. No matter how skilled you are in negotiating legislation through Congress, if you do not win elections you do not get to play at the table. Pelosi and Schumer may be whizzes at parliamentary procedure, but they do not give any indication they realize we are in a fight literally to the death (of the American experiment)..... When McConnell admits he will not allow any future Democrat to put a new justice on the Supreme Court, and there is little reaction except "that's politics these days", I have to wonder. We need firebrands these days, not wet matches. If the current Dem leadership is unwilling or afraid to go toe-to-toe with McConnell and the Repubs, then let the younger and more vigorous up and comers have at it. If the Dems do not convince the public of what they have done for the people and what the Repubs plan to do to the people, we are done.
Bruce, We are in complete agreement. I am glad that you laid out your position. When reading, 'I suspect it is the arrogance of the "professional" left, so sure they are obviously better than the other side, and their policies and platform planks so much better than the Republicans …' I wondered who the hell is he referring to? Next time, might you name the accused?
Regrettably, there seem to be a host of moderate and center-left Dems who act as thought they do not recognize that the game has changed - I would have to include Smokin' Joe Biden in that group, wonderful people who will be steamrollered by Mitch McConnell and his evil minions. There's a reason the Ten Commandments are not called the Ten Suggestions. For the moment, the Democrats have to learn and absorb that the current Republican Party and most of its members are the implacable enemies of democracy. Drink a toast to better times, and then go get 'em.....
'Tney' don't know how to fight this war. Pelosi is holding back the 'firebrands'. I prefer calling CHAIR PRAMILA JAYAPAL and DEPUTY CHAIR, KATIE PORTER of the Progressive Caucus in the House 'leaders' whose time has come. May they overcome Pelosi and take us into battle instead of out to tea.

I'm cheerfully prepared to be proven absolutely wrong on this.....:-)

BINGO! We have a winnah!
Thank you for the chat, Bruce. I'm adding 'winnah' to my vocabulary! Thank you for that, too.
