It is really painful when we lose them. Natalie was a rescue too. She was picked up running around a town in eastern Oregon and nobody claimed her. She was around 6 months old. She ended up at a rescue near Hood River and I went to meet her. She was sitting on top of a dog house and our faces were at the same height. I said hello and she put one paw on my right shoulder then the other on my left. We locked eyes and she licked my face. Her paws felt like she was hugging me. That was it, I was in love and we were bonded. She continued to give many hugs through the years. I miss her a lot. As I’m sure you do your sweet buddies.

I have cremated my kitties when they cross the Rainbow Bridge, and have instructed my nephew that when I die, he should take the big cry catfood can and dump all of our ashes in together, then release us from a hillside - being sure to have watched the Big Lebowski and be standing upwind.

that's actually an excellent idea. I should have saved Meg and Jo's ashes. I have Portia and Kash'a ashes (the two dogs in the picture I'm currently using). I tried hard to get Rochelle's monster sister to share ashes with me, but she refused. fuck her.

in my case, I keep locks of hair in case cloning becomes inexpensive in my lifetime, which doesn't look promising. but nothing's perfect.

I still have Natalie and 2 of my cat’s ashes in their little shrine I made with pictures, collars and paw prints. Natalie and the 2 cats , Matt and Casper were very close. I want to let them go together but haven’t found the right place yet. And I love The Big Lebowski

it's hard to tell from the picture, but did Natalie have that thing where one eye is blue and the other one's brown? it has a name, which escapes me. but I've always thought it was amazingly cool. I see it in Huskies a LOT. also Aussies and (more occasionally, I think) Border Collies.

Yes her left eye was blue and right eye brown. I think it’s called heterochromia. Native American legend says that dogs with different colored eyes can see heaven and earth. I don’t believe in heaven or hell but I do think Natalie was heaven on earth
