Isn't it just infuriating that tRump has the amount of support he has, even though we watched him commit crimes like January 6 and the national security documents case out in public in broad daylight? 😡😡😡

I don’t know but it’s really hard to agree with tRumps previous sycophant...but I think he’s toast. What is upsetting are the deep pockets of Republican dark money that have taken over the Supreme Court with the goal of taking away our rights

ahhh Karen!

avatar identification time!!

that's me in a band rehearsal in the storied "Apartment X," a cavernous dwelling above an A&P in downtown Park Slope in which four guys lived very comfortably for next to nothing. at least one of them is definitely reading this (the bass player in the right foreground) and could, if he wished, supply the actual rent. if I look sort of distant, it's because I'm thinking stuff like "jeez, if you don't play or sing, band practice can sure be dull and lonely."

it's probably mid or late '68 or very early '69 so yeah, that flag is ironic.

and you NEVER digress pointlessly. that's MY job.

Love it David. I was trying to figure it out and figured it was a band you were in. Most likely late 60s. Of course that’s when everything seemed to happen. It’s a great photo.

Expand full comment

it was taken by one of the occupants of Apartment X, Danny Baumbach. last I heard, Danny was making a living as a professional photographer.

my late brother-in-law was another one of the guys there, and his main goal in life seemed to be driving Danny Baumbach insane by repeatedly stealing his yogurt.

I wasn't actually in the band; I was a words guy.

Well I hope it was some really good Greek yogurt. Words are the fabric that connects

My avatar is me watching Mt St Helen’s coming alive and spewing some ash in 2004. First activity since the 1980 eruption. Just happened to be driving in the area. Kind of cool experience.

I was only listing the stuff that has happened. Georgia is still a "promise."

...and that Georgia case is every bit as much a "smoking gun" as the documents. actually, more so.

he can invent (and has invented) any number of reasons (all of them, of course, are lies and completely inconsistent ones at that) for having the documents. the Georgia phone call is out of a bad old movie. think Edward Arnold in any Capra movie. and what's TFF's defense? "It was a perfect phone call." yes, a perfect phone call made by an evil mogul in a Capra movie (add Lionel Barrymore in "It's a Wonderful Life").

sometimes I find myself trying (one of my silly "thought experiments") to figure out what the fuck TFF's "thought processes" are. has anybody else here found themselves wasting time in this way? tell me I'm not the only one...

and while I'm here...isn't that OLC opinion more of a "tradition" or "understanding" or "strong suggestion" than an actual rule? my understanding of the logic behind it is that "such things aren't done" because the POTUS already has a lot on his plate, etc. but it seems to me that it was meant to apply to a POTUS who actually works on more than just his personal damage control. and it certainly wasn't intended to apply where the issues in question address whether or not said POTUS belongs in that position.

I mean, like, it's getting downright METAPHYSICAL.

The OLC "decision" was written by Nixon's OLC while it seemed Nixon would be indicted over Watergate. "Self-serving" is the proper term I believe. They all just call it a rule because no one wants to touch this radioactive pile of shit known as Indicting and Trying a President.

Expand full comment

yeah, I sorta remembered it was something like that.

obviously, special times call for special circumstances, but obviously, it's radioactive enough to avoid. of course, such avoidance means that theoretically, if a sitting president did, in fact, shoot somebody in the middle of Fifth Avenue, we'd have to wait until his term was over to indict him. given these special times and circumstances, the logic is pretty close to that of Mutually Assured Destruction. actually, MAD makes somewhat more sense.

special times, special circumstances.

and isn't the OLC the piece of the DOJ whose main function is to cover POTUS's ass?

trump is the only bullet left in the GOP ammunition locker, there is nothing else left that they have that can get their base motivated in large numbers, but even then, they’re still a minority of the population and their days are numbered as their base is dying off with no replacements coming in. No matter that if he is convicted of a Federal offense or offenses, he will be the GOP nominee for POTUS in 2024. Only his death will finally pop the balloon, but who knows, the GOP might run his corpse anyway as it would probably draw more votes than anyone else they have…just remember in 2015, the GOP had 15 bonafide candidates running along with one clown, and the clown won. The clown is all they got left.

Have you noticed the Repub states “voter integrity laws” that have one goal - cheat

we ALL have. the "names" of these laws (like most Repug initiatives) are the real giveaway. whatever they claim to be, assume the opposite and you'll be correct.

I have to thank Trump for shattering my childlike illusions that America is a freedom-loving nation. We aren't; at least half are not. This is a problem that requires our full-bore attention and correction. Trump was my rude awakening, but it may require the actual installation of an evil despotism before the radical right has its illusions shattered, and then it's too late. The electorate needs some remediation, some deprograming.

I suppose now we'll have to start worrying about that "No Label" party that has been quietly going about getting itself on ballots. Joy Reid called the head of it out last night on her show. He should know better. And apparently the terrified traitor is threatening his opponents in the fascist party that he won't debate them. Aw shucks. Weren't we all just dying to hear what he has to say that he hasn't already screamed in all caps? Sorry for the digression, TC.

Wondering why Trump needs to capitalize his truth posts

lately. That's shouting, especially in the Deaf community and social media.

Maybe he's concerned his

people aren't listening to him

without shouting at them?

And...frankly, seriously, what

can Kise and co- counsel be

thinking, with their client blabbing away about things

that enhance his indictment

and undermine their defense?

Seems like with a possible 60

yrs behind bars, they have no

control over him. Or, is that

going to be part of their defense; he's crazy?

well, Kise got his three million upfront, so at this point, I figure he's already chalked up the loss.

of course, we've all had similar thoughts how many times in the last seven years?

I'm worried about the jury...I assume we all are.

It's been clear to me from the day he first announced that the only reason tRump is running is so that he can scream "Election Interference!" and "Political Witch Hunt!" and "Corrupt DOJ!" He has no interest in actually running the country, except to punish those he sees as his enemies. IF he were to win, the White House would become nothing more than the Center for Litigation Defense.

I'm pretty darn certain that his nomination would be a sure thing for electing ANY Democrat. But there's no doubt that we must work hard to make sure of that outcome.

Teflon. Anyone concerned that this attribute could be the deciding fact, all else considered?

Teflon's not impervious. I had a Teflon (original) that started

showing signs of breakdown

Fred, for some reason,

I don't think he's going to be able to escape Jack Smith. Imagine the testimony Mr. Smith has been hearing at the Hague,

as well as the written

records. He seems

resolute Trump will be

held, in courts of law,

accountable for

smearing ketchup

on, and marking with his Sharpie, the Constitution of our

country. And remember, Trump has

verbally painted a target on Jack Smiths

wife. I don't think Smith takes that lightly.
