A week ago, Ron DeSantis, akaFloridumb Man, proved once again that a blind pig can indeed find a truffle when he observed that “you could be the most worthless Republican in America, if you kiss the ring, Trump will say you are wonderful.”
Seven. Days. Later. He. Kissed. The. Ring. And El Jefe graciously recognized “Ron” for having run a wonderful campaign, then welcomed him to the line of Republican ass-kissers that extends out the front door at Mar A Lardo and wraps around the building four times.
One could go a length into how and why the man whose entire being caused me to ask, “Would you buy a used car from this guy?” but all you need is this: Ron DeSantis was, in the thoroughly-quotable words of Stuart Stevens, “Ted Cruz without the personality.”
In the end, DeSantis proved that the Seething Inadequates of MAGA want what the Seething Inadequates of MAGA want: “real” Coke, never “new” Coke. Taking on Disney, cheerleading Moms for Liberty, attacking drag queens, rewriting the country’s history of goverment-supported white supremacy, turning Christopher Rufo loose on The New School, and conning Venezuelan immigrants in El Paso to get on his private jet and fly to Martha’s Vineyard to “own the lib’ruls” didn’t work. Not when they could get El Jefe Del Mar A Lardo and his retarded 5 year old’s performative mendacity, malevolence, cruelty and love of Hitler for free at the next Hatealong.
DeSantis, like Newt Gingrich and George Wallace before him, proved that playing the dumbassed Southern white trash redneck white supremacist moron has never, and will never, play to a majority on the national stage. Like the other Southern gargoyles, people laughed at him behind his back.
Trump proclaimed DeSantis’ obituary Saturday night at his hatealong in Manchester, New Hampshire: “May he rest in peace.”
MAGA does not, and never has, worried for a microsecond about “policies” or “legislation.” The Seething Inadequates want a show, one that tells them they’re not the lifelong Inadequates they were born to be, that positions them as Right and Good and Real Americans, a show and a showman who hates the same people who have always outperformed them that they do with the same intensity and the same bitterness of spending a life with his nosed pressed against the glass door that will never open for him.
Trump has made it OK for the Gammas in the Republican Party to flaunt their cruelty, xenophobia, exclusion, and bigotry that has increasingly powered them since Nixon invited the Southern Traitors to join the party 50 years ago. MAGA likes being able to do that even more than they like winning - so long as they can “own the libs” for looking down on them. It turns out the Gammas have become the majority of the party. Today, in 2024, 82% of Republicans across the country agree with his Hitlerian “poisoning the blood” rhetoric, while 67% believe President Biden did not legitimately win the presidential election in 2020. As he faces trial on 91 felony charges, found guilty of rape, and soon to lose his license to practice fraud in New York state for the rest of his life, 62% of the Gammas say they would vote for him for president after his conviction for attempting to overthrow the 2020 election.
No other Republican presidential candidate has ever so thoroughly dominated the party. Trump’s control has turned the former “party leaders” into Old Bolsheviks confessing their treason against the Revolution just like their forbears did in Moscow in 1938.
Trump stands there, holding up four fingers, asking his adoring followers to tell him he’s holding up five, as a final test of loyalty.
By tomorrow night, the last of the Old Bolsheviks will bend her knee and confess her crimes as she kisses the ring and begs forgivenness for her treason of opposing him. Trump’s totalitarian takeover of the Party of Lincoln and Teddy Roosevelt and Dwight Eisenhower will be complete. She will nod and say yes, you are holding up five fingers.
Yesterday, about 68 minutes after DeSantis ended his campaign and endorsed Trump, he was rewarded the official “participation prize.” Asked by a reporter if he would continue using the nickname for DeSantis he had created the week after the governor entered the primary last year, Trump replied, “Will I be using the name Ron DeSanctimonious? That name is officially retired.”
“You could be the most worthless Republican in America, if you kiss the ring, Trump will say you are wonderful.”
At the campaign rally last night, Trump proclaimed, “He was very gracious, and he endorsed me, so I appreciate that.”
The usual piss-poor campaign reporting by the DC Press Corpse is completely useless in informing us about what is really happening.
The truth is that Trump is consolidating power within the Republican Party in a way that has never been seen before in in U.S. political history. He has the sort of firm grip on the party’s base voters that instills respect - even fear - in other elected officials, but this is so much more than that. He is using personal threats, promises to destroy the constitutional democratic republic if re-elected, and what appears to outsiders to be word salad insanity to unleash the MAGA mob; this is not flexing - this is intimidating, cowing, and eliminating internal opposition on a scale that is close to being comparable to that of Stalin or Mao - and if he does take power, he will join their category of tyrant-dictator. The unwillingness to oppose him now is not just a concern about a political career - it is based in fear of consequences to personal safety and the continued well-being of one’s family.
I find it understandable - even enjoyable - to take pleasure in watching Trump destroy what’s left of the Republican Party.
But I take no joy in the fact he wants to do to the country what he’s doing to the GOP.
In Hell, Josef Goebbels has the bottle of steaming brimstone to hand, ready to pop open as he celebrates the success of his leading Student.

Sunday NYTimes ran this interview of the new president of the Heritage Foundation, Kevin Roberts. His answers chilled me to the bone. The Nazis are no longer hiding behind closed doors.

The perfection of paragraphs seven and eight is dazzling in it descriptive power. And, of course, it makes one weep to recognize what's become of so many fellow Americans who claim to be religious and can't recognize a devil even when he hands them his business card. Should Trump keel over tonight, these folks would still be with us tomorrow and would seek out his replacement ASAP. This leads me to the tragic conclusion that they only way the destruction of the once great democracy from within can be stopped is for there to be a cataclysmic event perpetrated by an external adversary. People are not learning from history because in all likelihood they are not reading it; therefore, their minds would have to be shocked, shaken, and jarred into reality by their doors being kicked in, their worldly goods being confiscated and/or destroyed, their loved ones brutalized and killed, the night sky being lit up with sulfurous hours of lightning, and their ears assaulted by the relentless howling and crying of dogs and gods. If ever there were victims willingly hurling themselves to the ground to be trod upon by the jackboots, Trump has "groomed" what may become known as the red hat carpet.
