Agreed. One of the under appreciated aspects of his presidency was not being in our face all the time. Days would go by without much from him, but the work of the nation went on. It was nice.

I have a tear in my eyes and a song on my mind (That Would be Enough) from Hamilton:

"Look around, look around at how lucky we are

To be alive right now

Look around, look around..."

Joe Biden is the best of America. Country over personal ambition. His decision to ask Kamala Harris to be his running mate in 2020 will go down in history as one of his best strategic choices ever.

The song tracks from “Hamilton” have served to buoy me in these last few years, and several have been on repeat in my brain over the last 4 days.

“I’m watching you, kid.” “History has its eyes on you.”

I can’t WAIT to see THIS musical! ;)

I watched. Idea’s message. Want to know what a patriot is??? Look at Biden. And it doesn’t matter what anyone says…it may have been a political decision, but he did the right thing. She has a long road ahead of her, but I think she can pull it off. Her opponent wants to be a king…she wants the middle class to be protected. What will be the best for the country??? Uplifting the middle class…

Oh, man. Reading what you wrote...the quote. I totally agree with you the he's become a President for the ages. I was born in 1950 (so Truman was an attic newspaper headline.) But, everyone else? You nailed it. I'm as surprised as can be, impressed and grateful beyond words to President Biden. Now, to watch and listen...xo

Especially considering absence of the Bush family at a time of need for the country.

The treachery of the Bushes goes back, at least to the Coup of 1933. Prescott Bush was all in to run Roosevelt out. Smedley Butler put a stop to that. We needed Smedley in 2000

Preston Bush was a financier of the rise of the Nazis, for which he was rewarded with "investment opportunities" after Hitler came to power. He refused to divest those investments after 1940, and only avoided indictment under the Trading With The Enemy Act by running for and becoming a Senator.

Thanks for that addition. Damn, the Nazis got around, and their DNA is on paw prints everywhere.

yes. it's kind of scary. the fuckers were EVERYWHERE.

and BTW, changing the subject abruptly as usual, I just saw in the new Harpers that one out of two voters thinks unemployment is at an all-time high. THIS is what we're dealing with.

The Bush’s? Papa George was an exemplary fighter pilot in WWII. As POTUS, more Reagan ‘voodoo’ economics! As a former CIA chief, totally clueless that Saddam was going to invade Kuwait ! Little bush, conned by leader of Houston school district who fudged the data on test scores and got a total pass by media for his months of absences from Air National guard duty! Invasion of Iraq a total disaster based on lies! Oh my! GOP and lies perfect together!

Actually GHWB was a torpedo bomber pilot, the youngest Naval Aviator to see combat in the war. He joined up to atone for his father's pro-Nazi activitiey before the war.

you think he actually KNEW about it? I was under the impression that information like that didn't surface until considerably later. I mean decades later.

Papa Bush seems to have had a spell of patriotism. Good on him. It didn’t pass on to W or the junk bond son. Of course, the junk bond lure snagged several “men with integrity.” Sort of.

Linda thought she might shed a tear, as I thought too, but he actually invigorated us. He pointed the way. He left it up to us. He said he still has work to do and that's what he will do. He said Supreme Court reform CLEARLY. He has always been there for all of us. WE will look back on him as the best of the best. Selfless and dedicated to OUR nation above all else.

Beautiful speech. Love him so much. Crying my eyes out.

Thank you for sharing this speech with us. Joe Biden will be amongst the five top Presidents ever, He genuinely cares for this country and us, its people. Joe worked hard for us everyday of his Presidency. He got legislation FOR US and a lot of it. \

The trumpster played golf on his own golf courses and charged us exorbitantly high fees, plus the secret service. He bragged about not taking a salary ( he chose to donate the $400,000 to various government agencies. He didn't need to take the salary, he made out like the bandit he is by using HIS facilities and charging the Federal Government (read your tax dollars) way above the 'usual fees'

Trump will forever be a the bottom of the list as the ONLY president ever, to charge the government for the use of his own personal property, as well as the only one to gather a group of insurrectionists then imploring, encouraging, and praising them for breaking in to the Congress Building which was locked to the public as part of Covid 19 prevention. Joe and Kamala wore masks.

My wife and I both thought his speech would have with more emotional, more feeling of grief. Lord know he's good at that, learning life's lesson on the category from the greatest teacher - fate.

But he kept it pretty much all inside the Oval Office. A writer I've seen quoted a couple of time today said "Sell the brownie, not the recipe". Kamala sells the brownie and Joe sell can't help himself with the recipe. That's okay. He'll have plenty of time, almost three months, to do an interview where he acts as the nations grief counselor. We all need some therapy and understanding.

It builds an stronger emotional base. A base that we can stand on, knowing Uncle Joe did the right thing for us, and work with and for Kamala to set things right.

I do believe we have never witnessed a greater display of sacrifice then what we are living though now.

Lin Manuel Miranda wrote about trying to find an actress to play Hamilton’s wife, Elizabeth Schuyler Hamilton. He suggested there is real difficulty trying to cast *goodness.* Finding an actor to portray President Biden on stage might just be impossible. That would be fitting.

Well said, TC.

My regard for Joe Biden evolved, much like what you described.

At this point I view him with the highest esteem, my favorite President in my 76 years.

I think he provided us with exactly what we needed over these past few years: an effective antidote against the toxicity of the would-be wrecker of our Republic. Joe has been steadfast, reminding us what America is and should be -- and what we still aspire to become: a more perfect union.

And I can't think of one of the candidates running in 2020, accomplished and talented though they were, who could have pulled off what President Biden did, working with an often-dysfunctional Congress to get crucial things done in extremely challenging times. That's taken great leadership and a great team.

Someone MSNBC pointed out last night there is a benefit for the country for Biden to drop out of the race. Now for the next six months he can do what he does best, concentrate on being president and not spending his time campaigning. This might even save his life without that pressure to do both.
