According to the Iowa Secretary of State’s website, there are 590,000 active Republicans in Iowa. 100,000 came out to vote and the manbaby bigot got half those votes. Even with the snow and cold, that is no landslide for tfg.
the edition I had delivered this morning seems to have changed it. mine reads "T**** Wins Iowa In Key First Step Toward Rematch." but it gets much worse when you turn it over and look at the Op Ed page, where you get "The Appeal of an All-American Strongman." the writer (one of their miserable "columnists" Zenep Tufnecki). maybe I'm just blaming the messenger (I'm trying to be fair), but it's arguably one of the two or three most nauseating things I've ever read on that particular daily minefield.
That columnist spent most of COVID explaining everything that Dr. Fauci and company were getting wrong. When Leana Wen did that sort of thing in the WaPo, I couldn't help thinking she wanted Fauci's job. In this case, it's the worst kind of academic, and I say that as an academic: One with no conception of the world beyond.
I had a similar thought. I wonder where his parents are from. Hungary, maybe? there's a "from hunger" joke in there but I've seriously dug every Hungarian I've ever met.
For the second time in three weeks, the NYTimes Editorial Board has published a full-throated condemnation of Trump and a call to action to Republican voters. See NYTimes Editorial Board, The Responsibility of Republican Voters.”
TC’s essay is not exaggeration. Taking over the border is not too dissimilar to taking a fort. When I read the story yesterday I was wondering why the TX National Guard wasn’t being federalized. I’m still wondering.
I thought the very same thing when I read this story in Letters From an America. First-I was horrified that the Texas guards would let children and their mother drown. Who knows what that mother was running away from? Second-I thought that these actions by Greg Abbott were just as traitorous as firing on Ft.
Sumter. Those guards killed those three people as surely as Chauvin killed George Floyd. Abbott should be arrested because his stunt resulted in death. He's worse than George Wallace. Wallace standing in the doorway didn't result in anyone's death. But then Texas's Taliban Seditionists are out to kill as many women as possible with their draconian abortion ban.
Johnson's obstruction is hardly original. Mitch McConnell once stated his "top political priority" was to deny President Obama a second term, not to help America. The whole lot is rot.
Added to that was Marco Rubio's refusal to release from committee an immigration reform bill crafted by the Gang of Eight in the Senate under Obama. The wingers certainly have no intention of actually solving the immigration problem or any other problem besides clutching their power. They are one-up and want the game called now rather than playing to the end.
You are 100% right. I have worried about this since I lived the reaction to Obama’s election. The anti-Democrats made clear how far they would go to destroy our democracy. The clues were everywhere as Mitch, and the “anti’s” fomented hatred for Obama (even to making his tan suit as much of an issue as the color of his skin (otherwise known as socialism). Rural Texas went berserk, as did every Repub (antiDem) in my orbit. Even after the pundits advised them to change their messaging after the 2012 election loss, they went in the other direction. That’s when my worry turned into a nightmare. And nightmare it has remained, except for that sweet, but short, dream on Jan 20, 2021. The rebellion was in full swing by then and has more money than the feds, I’d wager. Joe is not fighting foreign adversaries, as much as he is fighting treasonous americans, who, in my opinion, are backed by enemies foreign and domestic. And yet, Democrats are divided, some giving aid and comfort to every facet of the world order that is rooting for the fall of AMERICA. Has the paradigm shifted…irrevocably?
I have to wonder if Orwell asked the right question. Do you believe me or your lying eyes? Propaganda has been busy, Hard to sort truth but it is possible sans the cult nuts.
DOJ should take a stand on this and quickly. Let’s hear the Democrats in Congress, whom tfg called fascists, speak up and loudly. Let’s all speak up—WhiteHouse.gov
And call anyone in Congress at (202) 224-3121. Letting people drown, putting them on busses in the middle of winter, name calling — and then calling themselves good christians is un- American, inhumane and just plain evil.
Break them, tear the party asunder. Easy enough for me to say, but surely there is still time for you the people to petition your courts in DC and various States seeking the removal of all elected office holders having betrayed their sworn oath to support the Constitution? Vacate their seats and force a vote for replacements in November.
"No person shall be a Senator or Representative in Congress, or elector of President and Vice-President, or hold ANY office, civil or military, under the United States, or under any State, who, having previously taken an oath, as a member of Congress, or as an officer of the United States, OR as a member of any State legislature, or as an executive or judicial officer of any State, to support the Constitution of the United States, shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same, or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof. But Congress may by a vote of two-thirds of each House, remove such disability." https://constitution.congress.gov/browse/amendment-14/section-3/
That seems to cover almost every Republican apart from Liz Cheney, Adam Kinzinger, Brian Kemp, (of course there are others of whom I am ignorant) who have been unbending in their faithful adherence to their pledged oath and refusal to offer "aid or comfort" to insurrectionists.
The US gun manufacturers have fully armed the Mexican and Central American cartels who have made life dangerous and deadly for the people there. What the cartels have not done to threaten people governmental corruption and poverty have. Parents who love their kids will try to move them to safety. Is that so hard to understand, even for the Christo-fascists?
The U.S. gun manufacturers have fully armed the U.S. "state militias" as well. I looked up "Michigan Militia" yesterday (before I learned of the Texas border news):; "estimates are 10,000 members..." Bet they are recruiting heavily today.
I teach a course on Lincoln, and I love to play a what-if: What if Lincoln had had nuclear weapons? I think he would have used them if he felt he had to, and would have hated to do it.
Who gives a shit about Iowa. MSM is running scared of reporting anything of importance. Kudos to the NYT Editorial board, but who the heck is writing the headlines? SMH.
One thing I discovered when I was step-father to my second wife's kids, was that it was much easier to get them to want to do the things I thought were good for them was not to yell at them when they didn't do those things, but to praise them when they did anything like what I wanted them to do. People prefer "positive strokes" to "negative strokes." If we want the NYT to be better, we should praise them when they do the right thing, no matter how small a step it is. It will lead to more steps in the right direction.
Well, I did say it was difficult, but not impossible, and I wasn’t giving negative strokes, just no strokes at all. All that aside, I notice the left is very fond of saying “honey will get more flies...” but in my experience, that dog just won’t hunt. Cash will always beat carrots, and I’ll not give them my few dollars thinking that will change anything.
In breaking news from Austin, Texas.....Gov. Greg Abbott has just been chosen the official state sociopath. There was no second place entry.....(but plenty of worthy possibilities).....
Republican Confederates in Texica Defy the Constitution as they scream about “the border” aka “her emails”
They don’t WANT reform, they want Bannonism in a Trump White House. No negotiation on that at all
8 Fweedumb Caucus members along with their spineless brethren take the US and global security hostage
“The White House has been under immense pressure from the MAGA Republicans to offer concessions for “controlling” the US-Mexico border. It was announced ysterday that there is now bipartisan compromise bill for changing policyt at the border that has been approved for consideration in the Senate.
In response to that news, last night House Majority Leader Steve Scalise said that bill is DOA in the House.
Mor importantly, Speaker Johnson said something far more specific and revealing. According to Jake Sherman of Punchbowl News, Johnson said he would refuse to bring up the bill in the House and said further that “Congress can’t solve the border until Trump is elected or a Republican is back in the White House.”
Abbott has clearly gone rogue and Merrick Garland is mute. Abbott continually violates federal law by meddling with foreign policy; he perpetrates civil rights crimes, kidnapping migrants and moving them across state lines, then dumping them onto streets in winter weather . . . Not to mention responsibility for 2nd degree murder. These right wing-nuts are so full of shit, they even select a leader who REAKS of rancid meat and incontinence.
Also, Iowa republicans had to choose between a treasonous bigot, a treasonous bigot, and a treasonous bigot. They chose the treasonous bigot.
They sure did.
In that order.
LOL

F the NYT. Their “warning” about Trump last week is rope a dope. Their intent is clear. Karma on them from a Trump Dictatorship
What is wrong with them?

That would have been a great Shel Silverstein song, too.
I had a similar thought. I wonder where his parents are from. Hungary, maybe? there's a "from hunger" joke in there but I've seriously dug every Hungarian I've ever met.

nice.

Abbott is proof, as if we needed it, that not all disabled people have compassion for others. Tom, you need to correct a few typos as well.
1861, we know.
Thank you for this, TC. Your reality’s a tough place to be in. Love you, Brother.

Spot on about iowa 😎
I have a difficult time giving NYT-anything kudos, like praise for a toddler who made it to the potty in time.

Oh yeah - I'm not advocating anything beyond a nice note in the comments section.
