I can’t get out of my head what Robert Hubbell posted yesterday that HCR posted during the debate: “Good heavens! She’s walking him like a poodle!” To me, it defined perfectly the entire “debate”.

You must have peeked into the hamster wheel that has been spinning in my brain. My Facebook feed (MAGAt retired cops) had me nearly incoherent with disbelief... they actually believe that shit. 100% your guy got fact checked; he freaking lied. I have to say that your comparison of Diaper Man as a washed up fat Elvis impersonator in Elko is fabulous.

Full disclosure: I was born in Winnemucca.

The Fat Elvis thing is pure Rick Wilson. I merely keep using it since it is truly fabulous.

My father was a cop. He once said you become a cop for one of two reasons - either you have a call to protect your community or you're a psychopath. These guys on Facebook are definitely the latter.

my POS brother-in-law had a law practice confined to working on Police and (much less frequently) firefighter pensions. I wrote his briefs for two years and got to know his clients. only one of them was not a psychopath. that single non-psychopath was Brian Levin, who's been a frequent guest on the more acceptable cable news stations discussing first amendment and racial equity issues.

almost needless to say, he didn't get his pension.

It was three times only, that he was fact-checked on the most easily rebutted lies. Poor Trumpy Boy.

Washington is a rigged town for the GOP, including the press who can be relied upon to write about whatever the Republicans tell them to. The party line was Harris is a lightweight and floundering as VP, and that became the press line. The fact that she’d pulverized Pence in a 2020 debate went down the memory hole. Biden knew exactly what he was doing when he picked her. But of course he’ll get little credit for that either.

history will vindicate Biden, but it's a fucking shame he's had to run this very long gauntlet.

I'd forgotten the 2020 VP debate -- did I even watch it? But I absolutely remember her questioning of Brett Kavanaugh, and as noted elsewhere I'd never, ever underestimate someone who'd been DA in a major city like San Francisco. I was a tad cynical about Biden's choice in 2020, but the last few years have won me over. He absolutely knew what he was doing.

It’s preparation. It’s having a plan. It’s being consistent. These are the qualities of the best trial lawyers. Harris was an actual working trial lawyer, and she has not forgotten that skill set. That is why she won the debate.

Gary, are you old enough to remember Mohamed Ali's strategy of "rope a dope?" Add that to the skill set you mentioned.

Thanks for the group therapy session Tom. It felt like a modern war dance.

The microphone-earrings allegation was disproven instantly. A close up camera shot & Google search revealed them to be Tiffany pearl earrings. MAGA is both weird and silly.

Maybe the wing nuts should take a listen to the opening lines of Everybody Knows by L. Cohen, who describes the only playing field that Donnie has played on since birth.

"Everybody knows that the dice are loaded

Everybody rolls with their fingers crossed

Everybody knows the war is over

Everybody knows the good guys lost

Everybody knows the fight was fixed

The poor stay poor, the rich get rich

That's how it goes

Everybody knows

(On Tuesday night the reality struck, sorry MAGA world!)

Everybody knows that the boat is leaking

Everybody knows that the captain lied

Everybody got this broken feeling

Like their father or their dog just died

Everybody talking to their pockets

Everybody wants a box of chocolates

And a long-stem rose

Everybody knows..."

Prosecutor Kamala threw his loaded dice into his face and like the Wicked Witch in the Wizard of Oz, he melted.

Biden is a good president who makes good decisions about many things. Choosing Kamala Harris as his running mate was one of them. The press hasn’t given either Biden or Harris the credit they deserve. I’m sick of them.

The wingnut conspiracy theory that Kamala Harris was receiving debate answers through her earrings is not new. It’s a reworking of one alleged against then-Vice President Biden, namely that his success in debating Trump in 2020 lay in the signals he was somehow receiving through the rosary which formerly belonged to his late son Beau, and which can be seen in many photographs of him, worn looped around his wrist. The bizarre nature of the assertion only add luster to it in the true believer’s mind.

Thank you for pointing out the change of ownership of Politico. Even now, not enough readers are aware of this, and of the rightward swing of many newsrooms. Why isn’t our so-called mainstream press giving Trump’s scandalous, un-American assertions, for instance his naming of Orban as a character witness, the same level of attention as President Biden’s single debate performance when he was obviously under the weather?

Press after Biden’s debate: “It was a disaster! Biden must go for the good of the country! Let’s have a brokered convention!”

Press after Trump’s debate with Harris: “Well, he didn’t do well, but he scored some points, and in any case debates don’t determine elections.”

Dear "Dr." Wolf and every dimwit who thinks VP Harris cheated because she couldn't *possibly* have been that well prepared and articulate: VP Harris is a former district attorney. DAs and trial lawyers spend lots of time on their feet speaking in courtrooms. No script in hand. No teleprompter in sight. Whether they're speaking for the plaintiff, the defendant, or the state, much is at stake. VP Harris reminds you all of this every time she repeats "Kamala Harris, for the People" but you still don't get it. As a U.S. senator, Harris was usually sitting down when she spoke, and she probably had notes in front of her, but remember how she skewered Brett Kavanaugh during his confirmation hearings? This is all on the record. None of it's secret. Trump's debate prep team (whom I do not envy in the least) should have had it in mind. Trump himself should have had it mind (muwahahaha), but since he falls asleep in court when he's a defendant, maybe he's never paid attention. How about you go on down to court on Trump's next trial date and watch the attorneys in action?

“Trump’s Trainwreck"…in the conservative National Review !

https://www.nationalreview.com/corner/trumps-trainwreck

"If you’re obsessing over how bad, how in the tank for Kamala Harris, the two ABC news moderators were, it’s because you don’t want to come to grips with the brute fact that Donald Trump was a disaster last night. He was unhinged, often incoherent, incapable of completing thoughts and sentences when he had points to make, and led into self-absorbed rabbit-holes — claims that he won the 2020 election, the size of his rallies, whether “migrants” are eating stolen pets..."

And Jimmy Kimmel has been killing it this week. He showed that Trump actually called into local news on 9/11 to point out he now had the tallest building in Manhattan.

it literally warms my heart to see you taking your appropriate command post on the "trash Naomi Wolf" front. isn't she vile? actually, your speculation about her Ph.D. is appropriate. there's a whole story there, but it's too complicated for me to type right now with my bad shoulders making this typing difficult. the short version is that the book she wrote based on her overdue thesis at Yale was based on her 180 degree misunderstanding of a single historical phrase. she found this out on (as I recall) a radio show. her book had to be pulped (again, as I recall) and she was disgraced.

what's strange is that she was once married to David Shipley, whose past work I've respected. and there's that story about setting out to get drunk and bang Harold Bloom (for a possible blurb) but thinking better of it when the moment came and throwing up all the liquid courage she'd had to be imbibe.

yes, they've been going nuts. I assume they managed to pack those "focus groups" with ringers. but I'm still anxious. Kamala could get ten million more votes than TFF and still lose and there's no chance that the abominable Electoral College will ever go anywhere.

looking over my shoulder at the TV, I notice that Harvey Weinstein is looking very trim. his new digs seem to agree with him. TFF grew up three or four neighborhoods away from mine. Harvey was only two away. in fact, he was in my worthless sister's HS class. fuck them all.

Wow! Tom. you are really angry this time! But I certainly don't blame you. As you said Fat Elvis, just stood there smirking and frowning for the cameras when he wasn't dribbling out lies and stupidities.

I noticed not a single one of his cult mentioned his biggest stupidty of the night how his proposed "tariffs" would bring billions - no - trillions of dollars to America from China, so much money, we'll have free child care for everyone and the wealthy will have net zero taxes.

Even I with only Econ 1A and 1B know that tariffs are paid for by the consumers, not the suppliers. You'd think at least ONE Republican by now should know enough about economics to realize money NEVER trickles down from the Wealthy Class to the peons it gushes up, and tariffs puts a sales tax on consumers. Oh, how I miss Kenneth Galbraith.
