It’s not conservative that I object to, it’s the corruption of conservatism that sometimes makes me feel holier than…

True, Bur we “liberals” must also not go overboard. Centrist might be better for all.

thing is, I have no idea what "centrist" means. anybody I can think of who described himself/herself (I lost a point on my English Regents, compromising a perfect score, and the mistake was subject/verb agreement, so I have trouble using "they") as "centrist." I even (now, at any rate) have a problem with "liberal," since "classic Liberalism" sounds a lot like Libertarianism and I'll shoot myself before identifying myself as possibly having anything in common with the Ayn Rand incel creeps who call themselves "Libertarians." this is why I call myself a "Social Democrat," although Tom says it's a "New York thing." it probably is, but I've been a New York thing since 1949 so why deny my heritage?

seriously, though...everyone I can think of who identifies as "centrist" looks to me like what was once called a "Rockefeller Republican." and for the record, I was raised to HATE Rockefeller lest it seems like I'm endorsing anything Republican.

funny...I was just thinking about exactly that and I was just about ready to come to the same conclusion but stopped myself when I got the distinct feeling that today's "centrists" might well be a little bit to the RIGHT of the "Rockefeller Republicans." a little bit.

my own familial loathing of Rocky was his long-declared (and, alas, successful, even if he wasn't there anymore) mission to end free tuition at CUNY. quite enough, in my family.
