On Wednesday, I started covering the latest re-election bid by the Virginia Ninth Congressional District incumbent. He had already gotten elected in 2010 - on the platform that his predecessor supported a black man for president - while living outside the district. Technically, it’s legal under Article 1 Section 2 of the Constitution. Legal isn’t always right, though. And he tried to stall the certification process on Jan. 6. I watched it and wrote the graf my paper inserted in the AP story.

This ‘congressman’ was written out of his district on Tuesday, and he is using the Article 1 Section 2 gambit again.

I will be writing on this for the next 11 months, and checking the FEC financial records throughout.

“…I should suffer the misery of devils, were I to make a whore of my soul by swearing allegiance to one whose character is that of a sottish, stupid, stubborn, worthless, brutish man…There are persons, too, who see not the full extent of the evil which threatens them…It is the madness of folly, to expect mercy from those who have refused to do justice…”. Excerpted from The Crisis by Thomas Paine, December 23, 1776. And so to you, TC, Riding Down the Niagara or Rocketing to the Apocalypse?

Thank you. I had not read this in its entirety before. The "whore of my soul" section (as quoted by Stephen Chipps below) hit me hard as being most timely ( or maybe timeless)!

Happy New Year to you, TC, and to all here!

Thanks for this great reminder of what it takes and what it will take to stop a rogue political party that is on the way to becoming exactly what Putin has done over 20 years in Russia. I'm reading Fiona Hill's book and I hope lots of people read it and take to heart the thoughts she has about changing the dynamic of our times. Too many people and communities have been left in the dust. "Mansion" does not see that or chooses to ignore it in favor of his own and his family's substantial bottom line. As far as Sinema goes - maybe it should be spelled "Cinema" as she is filled with nothing but fictions despite there being an asteroid headed for democracy. Well...onward and hopefully upward. I frankly am not interested in a totalitarian state which is what follows an authoritarian state. It is all part of the evolution of political shenanigans. Democracy on the other hand requires constant rebuilding in order that the people may be able to lead decent lives with not so much threat hanging over them. I do not remember the last time people felt somewhat less threatened. If you're Black or brown, or an immigrant, maybe you've always felt threatened in this white based social order. But that is on the way out and that is one more reason the gop (aka republican party) has chosen this fact as its rallying cry and organizing principle. Everyone with a shred of decency and a strong sense of morality and ethics must indeed refuse their organizing strategy and work hard to overcome it's pernicious effects.

We got lots to do in ‘22. So be it. Happy New Year, TC and to all here. United we are. That in itself makes the glass half full. I feel the momentum. I had an unusual dream the other night as 2021 waned. It was about women being pushed by some type of Light wave force at their backs. But as they were pushed, one could see almost like a graph that the women were rising. It was so cinematic as far as dreams go. I woke up thinking that 2022 will be a year that women simply know this is the year to clearly step into our power and not only right the ship but combine forces with men on equal footing and smash the war room to smithereens. Out with the f*cking nonsense and in with the fabulousness that our earth and its creatures deserve.

Join me? Our hands are extended.

Been there. Know the sound. Plus, I watched that movie! Thank you, TCinLA for all that others have expressed so well, AND for coming at things from an angle that’s illuminating because unusual and interesting and educational. Like the Paine letter for Washington. Strapping in for 2022’s bumpy ride. Writing postcards to start off the New Year. No time to waste. ❤️🤍💙
