The Freep was good - I worked at it when it was over on Fairfax across the street from Cantor's (before I started writing for them, just before I went back to SF and ended up at Rolling Stone when it was on the second floor of the print shop on Brannan down in the warehouse district). I can't remember the Kazoo, and also am drawing a blank on Karl's, though it was on Gayley just half a block down from the Westwood Theater on the west side of the street.

I hate going anywhere near Westwood Village the past 30 years - looking a the plastic fantastic overpriced chain stores selling crap, and remembering the interesting store that used to occupy that space.

Totally agree about the "new, modified, McDonalds" version of the Village. I worked for the Daily Bruin in advertising...clients included The Whiskey, Troubador, Rainbow Room, the Cock and Bull among other bars on the Strip. Hamburger Hamlet lobster bisque to die for (in the Village) if you played up the waitress to "dig deep" with the spoon for some healthy chunks of lobster. It's all gone and we're a tad older and lesser for it. Got an MBA in Arts Management and went to work for AFTRA/SAG after internship with the DGA bargaining team. Don't look back. (You can never look back).

If you do look back, you'll realize how steep the downslope is in Hell Lay.

TC. This is a Jackson Browne song prayer for me. I’ve always prayed to a higher power and my better self to “doctor my eyes” so that acceptance of injustice is not an option. It only will block my view of the sky.

Thank you TC! Sizzlin’ as I always say!
