I wonder why I couldn't find the Chris Murphy quote in the new vichy times or the washington compost. Hm.

One of my biggest issues with the press corpse (thanks, Brother Cleaver), beyond their general incompetence, is that they often get moving only when their ox is gored. Dana Milbank, who has evolved into a great columnist, tore into the maladministration about freedom of the press. We might start seeing more actual reporting now that they feel more endangered.

We can hope.

They should have been feeling endangered a loooong time now.

I am baffled about why that judge says the plaintiffs have to demonstrate harm. In any other context this would be considered a data breach. When it happens to a private company, they have to disclose it publicly. The risk of getting access to that data is way too great - it's why actual department members have strict security protocols.

I wouldn’t count on ever seeing that reporting from any corporate owned msm. It may get done but never see the light of day there. The only source of truth anywhere is here and any other INDEPENDENT MEDIA SOURCE PERIOD.

I cringe at what Krasnov is doing to Ukraine and calling it peace…

Remember when 45's Intel Chief Dan Coates told Bob Woodward that Putin was blackmailing Trump? He revealed it after resigning. It's clearly continuing. 4547 and MeTooOverHere Vance have done everything short of killing the Ukrainians with our troops. The next time Zelensky has to come to DC on his knees he must bring the Mayor of Kyiv and his brother with him as his security detail. The Klitschko brothers are heavyweight boxing champions who would give the Secret Service pause. It would change the optics and the temperature of the room. MTOH and his Pips behind the sofa would probably not have much to say. If only.

And moving deeper into foreign intrigue...If the EU can keep Ukraine holding, nay, winning, and Putin even thinks about nukes, as he's suggested he'd use, I'd hope France could get one of theirs to Kyiv (likely target) on the qt so Ukraine could respond. I fear it may come to that because domination by Putin is not an option for the Ukrainians just as a dictatorship should never be an option for the US>

Not sure you should be contemplating a nuclear exchange - even hypothetically - because there is no such thing as a "limited nuclear war".

I can't foresee where this is going to head now ... can the European nations collectively replace what Trump is now banning at the behest of Putin? What does the guy have on Trump ... my guess is it's something pretty trivial, but enough to motivate the bastard.

Nukes are the ultimate roll of the dice, agreed, but Ukraine had them before and gave them up to Russia in exchange for their independence and some compensation. Russia has over 5000 nuclear warheads, more than any country. We can never trust Russia not to have nukes. Allowing Ukraine some meek effort at equalizing the odds on the battlefield and in the so-called halls of diplomacy doesn't strike me as a bad thing because they wouldn't have new nukes, just currently available ones.

I bet there is some setting though that's really responsible... probably something about wrap around. You might let someone you totally trust look at your settings and see if they can find something. I think the question was just curiosity though.

I myself always start out with one of your comments reading them with rhythm thinking I'm reading poetry and then realize it doesn't rhyme and then feel a moment of mental transition as I realize it's not free form poetry. I figured it was a device feature, but font size makes sense to me - I have my mother reading her kindle on the largest font size.

I find it both amusing and interesting that our minds initially treat written ideas so differently based on something like line length or a visual feature. Don't stop commenting - it is what it is, and human curiosity is too. Your posts have value and your contribution adds to the resistance. We need the variety of voices and life experiences.

Great column Tom. Thank you. To top it all off I just read Malcolm Nance's Substack and he reports Kraznov and the regime are seriously planning to go after Canada and Greenland. I don't know how things can get much worse but I know they can and will. Will the Judiciary hold the line? That's about my only hope right now and it's very slim.

"Kraznov and the regime are seriously planning to go after Canada and Greenland."

They can seriously plan what they seriously want, all day every day, but they are so stupid and so wrapped up in their hubris and sense of unlimited power, that they are definitely going to fly too close to the sun.

How exactly do they "take" Canada, let alone Greenland? They couldn't even take the Panama Canal without destroying it.

Expand full comment

They start by destabilizing Canada economically. That's the first part of their insane plan. Malcolm Nance explains it here.

It smells suspiciously like the way Putin, Kraznov, Musk and Co. are "going after" America. First you destabilize it economically... Russian nesting dolls.

Expand full comment

"It would cause the Armed Forces to mutiny and Civil War in America to start."

This is all just war porn ... there isn't a general or admiral or anyone in the US Armed Forces who would send personnel into to take Canada (or Greenland) by force. It's not going to happen and it's a total distraction from what is really happening - the Musk cancer in the US.

Expand full comment

Probably so. But Trump is crazy enough to consider it as you know. Anything is possible with this regime. I respect Malcom's analysis very much as he worked for the Government for so long and has major sources. But you're right about one thing, I don't believe our Armed forces would comply.

Expand full comment

I hope you are both right, and I wish I were so confident. I can believe it's distraction but I can also believe it's distraction for FF too. I can too easily imagine him being attracted to an idea that so closely mirrors Putin's behavior. I can also see Putin using all those totally private one on one phone calls to glorify his quest to put the Soviet Union back together and describe how history will extol him for gaining land for Russia and urge FF to do so too - because luring and pushing FF to do stupid things to destabilize the free world is exactly Moscow's style.

I believe that "our military" is not a block entity. The individuals that make up the military command below Hegseth and enlisted men and women have a multitude of different beliefs varying from very liberal to very right wing. They also vary along the spectrum of willingness to be put into the brig for refusing to follow orders they disagree with, despite deeply entrenched obedience to the chain of command, because of oaths they swear to the Constitution and country. Courage in combat is one thing, watching the trooper beside you be clapped in the brig for refusing orders while other fellow troopers clamor to obey is a different matter... and the situation isn't always going to be all that clear. Troops along the Ukraine border thought they were just there as part of a training exercise and expected to be home in a week or two right up until the first shots were fired Inside Ukraine and then they were in the midst of it. I do believe the stakes will be clearer for those ordered to fire on US civilians but those given the orders may already have been selected for having the proper MAGAt beliefs.

But I hope you're right. I want my darker suspicions to be wrong.

Well said. It's anyone's guess at this point if we get to Martial Law and firing on Protestors and/or a War. God help us.

First off, these people are either grossly incompetent or blatantly evil. Secondly, maybe these morons who voted for the asshole who bankrupted two casinos and a football league are finally realizing that like the Chinese (or James Bond) said, "when plotting revenge, dig two graves."

They go out and say outrageous things and then the 'little people,' as Don Rickles once referred to when explaining his insult comedic style, start screaming, they reverse course. Or as Ellen says "Oops, my bad."

The Rethugs are canceling town halls. Jack Bergman, who represents Michigan's 1st District, was a no-show at a T-H Thursday night. He then posted a video of him telling his constituents, essentially, to "fuck off." https://www.uppermichiganssource.com/video/2025/03/07/organizers-hold-1st-congressional-district-town-hall-escanaba-without-rep-jack-bergman/

If you're wondering how Middle America is doing these days—and who isn't?—you really should drop by my gated community. Today, two older gentlemen (and I use that word loosely) nearly duked it out at the mailboxes. We're talking raised voices, clenched fists, the kind of drama you'd expect over a contested parking spot on the Las Vegas strip, not beside a mailbox overflowing with catalogs for elastic-waisted pants. As I walked toward the fray, I decided a swift U-turn was the wiser choice. Though, truth be told, if there'd been a rock handy, I might have lobbed it straight at the Republican asshat and sprinted away faster than you'd think someone in sensible shoes could run.

“I think he’s doing what anybody else would do" and "I think probably anybody in his position would be doing that right now" reminds me of social psychology studies finding a high correlation between scores on tests for sociopathic tendencies and prediction of sociopathic behavior in others.

"I think he wants to get it stopped and so I think he’s hitting him harder than he’s been hitting them" is ridiculous but at least comes from someone who is demented, feeding lines to his faithful for repetition, rewriting history for the ignorant or all of the above. "If Plaintiffs could show that Defendants imminently planned to make their private information public or to share that information with individuals outside the federal government with no obligation to maintain its confidentiality, the Court would not hesitate to find likelihood of irreparable harm" comes from a judge for fawks' sake. The defendants Are individuals outside of the federal government so far as we can tell since the government is playing shell games with naming the leadership or the status of DOGE. The whole idea in the first place was they would be outside of the federal government to be outside of specific pesky controls and FOIA requests.

Someone fake up an original Constitution for FF to throw ketchup at, please. Just quietly get a fake copy to give him with plenty of "protections" in the oval office and tell him you put a fake copy on display for the people...
