From the Department of Dammit!: The Washington Post reports that Joe Biden now admits that he should have chosen someone other than Merrick Garland for AG because he simply wasn’t the man for the moment and was far too slow to appoint Special Counsel Jack Smith, all but ensuring that Trump would not be held accountable for his crimes before the election.
Agreed, Tom. And thanks for including the last paragraph, I have printed Dr. Richardson's post for today. Stuff I really didn't know about a man I have always respected, former President Jimmy Carter.
I also learned a lot from LFAA's post regarding Pres.Carter. I'm sure thats something that the Repubs wouldnt want included in "history" teachings - after all he was a democrat! AND did good things! Cant have that information taught.
From the Department of Serial Sexual Abusers: The Second Court of Appeals just voted in E.Jean Carroll’s favor that evidence used at trial was properly admitted.Joyce Vance details the damning evidence in her post.
"but his Chief of Staff Ron Klain was adamant that Garland should get the job" Now we finally know who to blame. "Randy Quaid..."!!!!! "the Founders never expected that Compleat Fuckwits could take over a congress." Great column.
I have 5 teachers in the next generation of my family. Trust me on this--if they want to indoctrinate ANYTHING in their students, it would #1 PUT THAT DAMN CELLPHONE AWAY and #2 DO YOUR HOMEWORK.
Sadly, I can’t remember who left this post on which site, but I can quote it pretty closely: “…(the Republican Congresspeople) couldn’t organize a f**k in a brothel!”
I first read it in HCR's letter (comment section) three days ago. The commenter is a woman whose name I do not remember. She said it was originated in Australia.
I LOL'd at this one. "Victoria “I don’t really want to work in Congress” Spartz," Good Lord, she's white and doesn't want to work. A case in point of Viveka & Elonia's rants of "ya'll are lazy and dumb and we need more smart immigrants". [SMH}
Well it would be good for a laugh, Sharon, except Victoria Spartz is not a lazy white natural-born American citizen. She IS a smart immigrant.
Rep. Spartz (R-IN) is a Ukrainian immigrant who earned her Bachelor of Science and MBA degrees from the Kyiv National Economic University, and Master of Accountancy from Indiana University. A Certified Public Accountant, she was formerly the Chief Financial Officer of the Indiana Attorney General’s office
Ms. Spartz did not say that she really doesn't want to work in Congress. What she said is that she will not work with House Republicans or participate on committees when the 119th Congress convenes in January. While I don't agree with her on most issues, she deserves credit for calling bullshit on what's happening in the House under the Republican majority.
In a statement last Tuesday about her decision, Rep. Spartz said “As a serious legislator and finance professional, not a clown, I am not going to continue being involved in circuses." Good for her!
(BTW, with the GOP majority being so tiny we should welcome any chance to work with potential Republican allies who are serious about governing.)
Actually it's TC who mischaracterized Rep. Spartz. Can't really blame him. She is a serious person, but something of a loose canon whose vote is always in play, making her an easy target..
Regarding Merrick Garland: There's a place for deliberation and another one for action. He may have made a thoughtful and fair judge, but the guy's just slow on the uptake in decision-making.
I'm sure the Mike Flynn Variety Show will be just as entertaining as the Madison Square Garden Offensefest and that the joint will smell bad after it's all over. Ted Nugent, the guy who got legal guardianship of a minor female so he could take her across state lines without directly violating the Mann Act. Russell Brand, accused rapist. Mike Tyson, hard-hitting cannibal and beauty queen rapist. At least Flynn got the venue right. As for Randy Quaid, I thought he and his wife were on the lam avoiding multiple creditors.
Finally, why do the so-called religious righties always fall for Trump's pretenses to give a whit about either education or religion, both of which have eluded him his entire seedy life?
Ted. Boy, I have stories about him. Despicable doesn't even do justice. He did the worst thing imaginable and unforgivable in Michigan's Music Community - He stood up Seger. His daughters took to using fake names. He forced himself on Courtney Love when she was 12, banned from hunting in several states (five or six if memory serves) and never graduated high school. Got kicked out of the Amboy Dukes for screwing his bandmates wife. And that's just a few.
Ted has his own original definition of "talentless." He had to become a right winger to find an audience ignorant and stupid enough to think he had something to offer.
I spent 4 months on “The Longriders” working with Randy and Dennis in ‘79, then Randy again on The Jim Jones Story with Powers Boothe. In those days Randy was a fairly normal guy, easy to be around and work with, I remember reading that he had gone off the deep end a few years back although I couldn’t say more than that because I don’t remember it, my memory is that he became a real nut case, maybe that part of Texas was in him all along. In addition to Walter Hill I worked with a lot of those guys from “the Longriders” over many years, 30+ more or less. We all change, some not for the best 🤷♂️.
That is new info about Garland, I stopped holding my breath that he would do what any sane person would do a while ago, he totally fucked us. Not that it matters but I hope he knows on a cellular level just how much we loathe what he did, by not doing his job. John Mitchell who went to prison was at least honest about who he was, Garland not even close. Biden who I wanted to have faith in, and who accomplished a lot, let us down as well, when there were no arrests in Feb of 21, he should have asked for his resignation and brought in a Pitt Bull. The next 4 years and maybe much longer are going to be a reflection of his inaction, I know a lot of people think we are going to be able to survive this, but I’m not so sure, we have never had people in government who wanted to destroy everything that makes it work, and a court that will back them up.
Muck bought the election with the lint in his pocket, we have Citizens United to thank for that, if you think he’s done, think again. He could easily buy the House and not feel it in the slightest, right now he’s figuring out where to put his money to get what he wants, we are so screwed. Happy new year everybody 💥
Tom, please make this New Year’s Resolution for me and your other subscribers: I will never again report a poll without first saying what the sampling was and the date the poll was taken. The PRRI poll you reported had a sampling of 5352 people. Go to the prri.org website and find the poll and go to the VERY LAST PAGE and you will see all the stats in detail. There is no way in hell this number is statistically accurate if even a handful of MAGats or Russian spies lied to get in. You cannot extrapolate 5352 people into over 79 million voters who cast ballots. STOP writing about what the polls say. They don’t tell the sampling upfront any more like they used to on purpose because most people would discount the conclusions.
If you must write about a poll tell us the sample number in the first sentence like the formerly respected NYT used to do.
I hope that you all have seen the clip of President Carter recounting a trip to Africa and seeing a sign that read, "Watch out, Guinea worm, Jimmy Carter is coming!"
Unfortunately, I suspect that there will be tremendous pressure on all Republicans to vote for Lil' Mike for Speaker, and that he'll likely squeak through, perhaps because there will be a very small number of Democrats who won't be in the House for legitimate reasons. But this is another instance in which I hope I'm wrong.
Congress can count the electoral votes without a House Speaker. The relevant section of the Constitution merely says what the "presiding officer" of the House must do. Until a speaker is elected, that presiding officer is the Clerk of the House.

Yeah, that appeared in my inbox too late for inclusion.
Thank you TC. Can honestly
say I'm not looking forward to
New Years and what 2025
bodes for our country.
That's why I have named the year what I have.
"but his Chief of Staff Ron Klain was adamant that Garland should get the job" Now we finally know who to blame. "Randy Quaid..."!!!!! "the Founders never expected that Compleat Fuckwits could take over a congress." Great column.

Sigh. At times, it's good to be old.
Sadly, I can’t remember who left this post on which site, but I can quote it pretty closely: “…(the Republican Congresspeople) couldn’t organize a f**k in a brothel!”
I believe that was our beloved Jeff.
Yes, it was Jeff. I loved that this weekend.
I first read it in HCR's letter (comment section) three days ago. The commenter is a woman whose name I do not remember. She said it was originated in Australia.

.
I stand corrected, Jerry! Thanks for your constructive feedback 🙏🏻
Thanks, Sharon.

Love it!
Fuck Ron Klain.
Everyone makes mistakes, but when you do it on a level this epic, you're out on your kiester, except in the Democratic Party.
A bit too late. By now he fucked the nation if not the world.

I would imagine also lacks any form of talent! But then from the above comment - he fits right in with the elect bunch.

If the House members go along with that. Ain't gonna happen with this crowd of Homo Saps.
For a quick second I thought you wrote "Hapless New Year. "
It would be more appropriate.
