What's the good word?? A very snarky guy, Lambert Strether, over at nakedcapitalism.com came up with a great euphemism: DOGE-bags.

Spread the word...

Only one comment is appropriate as I read your reports of the jackasses kicking down our barn. They are too stupid to know how stupid they are. But alas, there are others that are too evil to claim humanity. MAGAts are a combo of these low lifes

Muskrat doesn’t know how the government is supposed to work, and he doesn’t care except for taking our tax money and putting it in his pocket.

Following the news is like being a glutton for punishment these days. If we flag, the backlog becomes even more overwhelming as it is already hard to keep up. I am so upset about the axis of evil watching Putin, Trump, & Musk destroying lives. I wanted to slap those faces representing us in Munich. Meanwhile , bombing Chernobyl & taking 50 % of their minerals !!!!!!!!!! We don't have the right to say we are not interested.

Magnetic elevators that can lift 25 planes at a time…wow! Guess who never went aboard an aircraft carrier in his life and saw how cramped for space the hangar deck is and how the planes need to fold their wings to fit on the elevators, one at a time…What a maroon…

Tom! You are the best! Thanks for navigating the shit storm of absolute craziness. What great news about Judge Chutkin. Of course that means she'll be getting all kinds of threats. I take heart from so many brave people who are standing in the gap now. I keep wondering when we of the United States will begin our own version of the Ukrainian Maidan revolution that eventually sent Yanukovich fleeing to russia? Every state capitol. DC. Non violent. Continual presence. People camping out. Holding the ground and telling each other we will not let this regime continue. Even the Maidan started small.

In your spare time HOL, please write a piece on the administration’s efforts to remove Critical Race Theory that isn’t part of the public school curriculum to begin with, specifically suggesting replacing it with Critical Asshole Theory to educate aspiring 8th grade graduates, which includes the entire MAGA base (no offense 8th graders), about sociopath-extraordinaires Musk, Trump, Vance, Miller, Vought, Kennedy, Hegseth, and others. This could even spawn a reality TV show where they audition for new gigs soon! HOL

Here's an interesting poll on what the actual citizens of the country think of "out of control spending when looking at specific issues: https://apnews.com/article/ap-poll-government-spending-social-security-medicare-8a8ddb0e721355a4e9585da4147efe1a?

There is an associate professor of sociology at Notre Dame looking for interviews with Viet Nam era war resistors, her name is Dana Moss.

She says, "If you want to look me up, feel free to put Dana Moss + Notre Dame in your search engine! I've written in the past on anti-authoritarian movements and human rights struggles in the Middle East and among immigrants in the US and Britain. I also worked for a peace organization for 10 years. This project, about the Vietnam war, is my latest research that I intend to turn into a book and a series of articles. The VVAW's history is vitally important, and so are the testimonies of its members. I am also interviewing draft resisters, if you know of anyone who might be interested!"

Her contact information is  dmoss2@nd.edu  if you are interested. She already has a number of guys lined up and has spoken with the leadership at VVAW.

Nah, what I have to say would piss off the true believers who are the only ones left in that bunch. Plus I read a book on the coffeehouses that was obviously done with interviews with the two people we were at the Oleo Strut with. I have a very good memory, and my memory of 1968 and who did what was "at variance" with the two "heroes of the revolution." I'm not interested in fighting with losers for whom that's the Big Event of their lives.

You sound like what I read from Lewis Walls (also at Oleo Strut) who also won't have anything to do with her, but for what I see as different reasons. Interesting variance after 50 long years, but today's troubles seem to be putting all that on a very back burner. The one thing that VVAW is doing that I am all in with is the libraries they are trying to build.

Administration Quickly Rescinds Firings of Nuclear Arms Crews

Administration disputes accounts that it dismissed employees in vital weapons roles

By Bob Cronin

Energy Department Rescinds Firings of Nuclear Arms Crews

After informing hundreds of employees that they've lost their jobs—a move met with alarm from national security experts—the Energy Department is scrambling to bring back nuclear energy specialists. The reversal on the firings was announced Friday at a staff meeting of the National Nuclear Security Administration, Bloomberg reports. Insiders said department officials didn't seem to realize the agency oversees nuclear weapons, per CNN. An Energy Department spokesperson disputed those accounts, maintaining that it fired fewer than 50 people from the agency and that they were in "primarily administrative and clerical roles."

Those fired include NNSA workers at installations where nuclear arms are built, where they oversee the contractors and inspect the weapons. Headquarters staff members who write requirements for the contractors who build nuclear weapons also were dismissed. Managers had drawn up lists of essential employees, per NPR, and allowed a 200-character explanation. On Thursday, the managers were told that the vast majority of those requested exemptions were denied. Many of the employees were told to clean out their desks immediately.

The agency's responsibilities include servicing nuclear weapons when they're not deployed on missiles and bombers, as well as making safety and security upgrades to the warheads. Some of the fired employees worked to keep terrorists and rogue nations from acquiring weapons-grade plutonium or uranium. Many of them had "Q" clearances, the highest level in the Energy Department. Replacing them isn't quick, experts said, because it can take at least 18 months and training before such clearances can be approved. "These people are likely never going to come back and work for the government," Jill Hruby, who was the administrator of the NNSA during the Biden administration, told CNN.

In addition, here is a very interesting tidbit to add to the above horror.....from HCR.....

"It certainly appears that those in charge of the firings didn’t know what they were doing: on Thursday they fired more than 300 workers at the National Nuclear Security Administration, apparently not aware that they were the people who oversee the nation’s nuclear weapons. Today, Peter Alexander and Alexandra Marquez of NBC News reported that officials are now trying to rehire them but can’t figure out how to reach them because the workers lost access to their work email when they were fired." You literally can't make this stuff up.....
