Eliminating NOAA is insane. The textbook example of cutting off your nose to spite your face. Its work is essential to maintaining our economy and safety. But because it assiduously gathers and publishes statistics based on accurate observations of the weather, and therefore provides factual basis for documenting climate change, the Trumpist/Muskovites will kill it.

The fossil fuel oligarchs complain that NOAA’s factual reports are bad for their business and “will hurt American prosperity.” NOAA reports are making climate change somehow

just possibly seem connected to the burning of fossil fuels. And connected to super-floods and super hurricanes and horrendous wildfires.

Thanks for a very good post, Tom. A place we disagree is: "These fuckers are too goddamned stupid to qualify as members of the species." I personally think Homo sapiens is the worst, most destructive species to have evolved so far. Earth would have been better off without us. I hope whatever new species we mutate into will drop our worst characteristics of greed, selfishness, narcissism and lack of concern for others of our species and the gazillions of other genus/species that share this plant with us.

I thoroughly agree. Most of the East African Plains Apes nowadays are members of the genus Homo Sap, lacking frontal lobes and opposable thumbs. But very definitely, evolution's experiment in biological intelligence that can perceive the results of a planned action and modify its behavior thereby is a resounding failure. East African Plains Apes are generally enjoyable as individuals and terrible as groups.

Bet that last sentence pertains to us as well as the apes.

Thank you for referencing Rob Hubbell‘s substack newsletter, Today’s Edition, posted today, stellar and a worthwhile read, as well as spur to action. Comments are good too… Jasmine Crockett should not be overlooked as a powerhouse to join the shadow cabinet populated in this piece by nominations Rob thinks might work well. A stellar piece! An exhilarating read. Thank you for your post here as well… The writing styles, backgrounds, integrity, vernacular… all a delightful variety from which to glean options to choose for action, moving forward! Vanquish! That is our goal on behalf of the common man, for heaven’s sake!

From the perspective of the ultra rich oligarchs, eliminating NOAA is not insane. They want to privatize it in order to increase their wealth, at the expense, obviously, of all the rest of the world that depends on the vital info NOAA provides. Looking at this from their greedy angle, this makes complete sense.

Dumb bunny Byron Donalds is also considering running for Governor in FL…where Republicans who used to worship DeSantis are now calling him a “big government liberal”.

That may be because there's a growing group who want De Santis' wife to run. But kneecapping their own is what they do.

"These fuckers are too goddamned stupid to qualify as members of the species."

Is that the new GOP motto?

I can understand the Heritage Foundation wanting to whiten the population (they're abject racists), but shutting down weather forecasting serves no purpose except pandering to Trump's grievance about sharpie-gate. WTF?

Naw, they want to privatize it, rather than being a function of government. Like the PO.

I feel like I have to back away from the daily firehouse but here I am, back marveling at how absolutely bonkers this crowd is. Sick does not describe fully how sociopathic they all are. Killing kids and moms means nothing to them. It proves just how fun cruelty can be. It's like living in the worst kind of xxx rated crap. I would like to know if in addition to being on the payroll of We the People, they're getting kick backs and perks from putin and xi. Wouldn't you like a read out of muck's calls with the other 2 tyrants... of course I forgot Bibi who visited mar-a-lardo to work out the real estate deal from auschwitz oops, hell. What kind of junk are these guys snorting?
