I’m happy to supply shovels for these morons to accelerate their self induced burial under their own bullshit. And thank you Jaime Raskin.

'A Republican, a Democrat, and a Dude are sitting at a table with a dozen cookies.

The Republican takes 11 cookies, leans over to the Dude, and says', “Watch out for the Democrat! He’s trying to steal your cookie!” (HumorNama)

I just cannot comprehend how such stupid people as mtg, lauren boebert, matt gaetz, and tfg get elected, "safe districts" not withstanding.

I believe Winston Churchill alluded to the reason when he said something like “There’s nothing more discouraging than a five-minute conversation with the average voter.” But sadly, according to The Churchill Society, Churchill never said it. https://winstonchurchill.org/publications/finest-hour/finest-hour-141/red-herrings-famous-quotes-churchill-never-said/

Sigh. I have been trying to hang in there on Twitter, but it's still getting increasingly weird. The other day they banned Heather Cox Richardson for awhile. She's back but ? ! we all know she is so cautiously spoken and careful with her facts, it has to have been for telling an uncomfortable truth. Today I discovered they are limiting me to two tweets a day which makes it more like watching TV or reading articles with almost no chance for input. Social media indeed. I expect this will either go away in a few days as other weirdness has, or I will... Anyway yes it's their right - just as it's Elon's right to lose as much money as he wants playing right on red.

I went away. Life is sweeter.

Did you go anywhere in particular? I found Mastodon to be a bit unwieldy, and it's difficult to find people on any of the alternatives - very piece meal. I originally used Twitter as a handy way to be alerted to developments places (some developments were tweets themselves) since so may news sources cover just the very tip of the ice berg (or pile of... ) !

Expand full comment

I haven't found an alternative yet. I just quit. I used Twitter to follow certain people I trusted and also to tweet messages to news anchors from time to time. I always tweeted HCR's LFAA and other substacks to which I subscribe.

Speaking of WaPo, I cancelled my subscription several months ago because they were running an ad for Huckabee's book about how wonderful TFG is. I wrote to WaPo and told them why I cancelled.

God, speaking about the vermin and their view of reality. There is no such thing. Of course, the cretins will buy in bulk and pass to all the buddy cretins. At least that’s what they used to do when I had inside knowledge of right-wing insanity. I’m sure lying hag Huckabee will be on the best-seller list.

I read at least three papers daily. The Post contains as much if not more fact and opinion than either of the others across the political spectrum. As to being censored, if you mean that they did not publish a letter you sent, I know that they receive many more letters than they can share and say up front that they will propose edits for length or clarity. Can't comment beyond that, but we also write letters. I also email the execs directly and have more than once received a direct response. Perfect. No. Better than most. Yes

Thanks, Gail! I had missed that news. I just found this encouraging message on his official website. I hope it predicts his future:

December 28, 2022

WASHINGTON, DC - Congressman Jamie Raskin (MD-08) today released the following statement.

“After several days of tests, I have been diagnosed with Diffuse Large B Cell Lymphoma, which is a serious but curable form of cancer. I am about to embark on a course of chemo-immunotherapy on an outpatient basis at Med Star Georgetown University Hospital and Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center. Prognosis for most people in my situation is excellent after four months of treatment.

“I expect to be able to work through this period but have been cautioned by my doctors to reduce unnecessary exposure to avoid COVID-19, the flu and other viruses. In addition to destroying cancer cells, chemotherapy impairs natural antibodies and undermines the body’s immune system. I am advised that it also causes hair loss and weight gain (although I am still holding out hope for the kind that causes hair gain and weight loss).

“With the benefit of early detection and fine doctors, the help of my extraordinary staff, the love of Sarah and our daughters and sons-in-law (actual and to-be) and family and friends, and the support of my beloved constituents and my colleagues in the House, I plan to get through this and, in the meantime, to keep making progress every day in Congress for American democracy.

“My love and solidarity go out to other families managing cancer or any other health condition in this holiday season—and all the doctors, nurses and medical personnel who provide us comfort and hope.”

Here is what Democratic Rep. Katie Porter said at the same hearing:

Democratic Rep. Katie Porter blasted her GOP colleagues for turning the House Oversight Committee hearing on "The Twitter Files" Wednesday into a circus.

"For nearly six hours, we have been going back and forth about the supposed suppression of a single news story from a single outlet for a single day. This hearing has been, in its length, nearly one quarter of the amount of time that Twitter users could not share the link."

"We are spending almost as much time screaming about this as this was ever a problem," she said. "Today's hearing is merely an exercise in misinformation and disinformation, a free-for-all hellscape."

"The Oversight Committee, like Twitter or any other social media company for that matter, cannot become a free-for-all hellscape where anything goes."

I saw some the "highlights." should we start saying "lowlights?"

the thing about these scumbags is that they've made it necessary for us to revamp our most basic assumptions about so many things.

for example I've always assumed that the point of lying is to NOT get caught; liars are SUPPOSED to take pains to make sure they get over, at least for a while. WRONG. those putzes were yelling and screaming at Biden for lying when there's ample evidence (written and videotaped) proving THEY'RE the fucking liars.

I've always assumed that arguments are supposed to have some kind of LOGIC. WRONG.

I've always assumed that in places like congressional subcommittees, people asking questions are supposed to give the appearance that they're not doing there to air get even over personal complaints and grudges, but rather to promote some kind of more general welfare...

WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG.

for the second time in less than two weeks, all I can come up with is the fable about the frog and scorpion. there's no way to explain the behavior of, say, Goongirl except to say she is what she is.

they are what they are.

an excellent way to figure out what they're guilty of is to just sit back and wait for them to make their accusations. exactly like TFF.

one, two, three all together now: fuck them.

Gaitorbait. Poor Clay!

Louisiana would not be

in such disaray

If Higgins were Henry

Instead of Clay.

"The great secret, Eliza, is not having bad manners or good manners or any other particular sort of manners, but having the same manner for all human souls: in short, behaving as if you were in Heaven, where there are no third-class carriages, and one soul is as good as another.”. (Henry, in My Faur Lady)

As well as being an elected official, Higgins continues to hold a law enforcement commission in a reserve capacity with the Louisiana Attorney General's office.[1]

Higgins is known for his ties to fringe, anti-government militia groups such as the Three Percenters and the Oath Keepers.[2]
