MORE REPUBLICAN FAILURE

We knew the first meeting of the House Oversight Committee was not going to go well when Congressman James Comer of Kentucky, the Chairman, was questioned on Sunday about what kind of evidence he will present to prove his fantasies about the persecution of “great patriots” by the Evil Lib’ruls.

“There are always questions about disinformation. We have questions about disinformation, we're concerned about some of the things that Dr. Fauci said that we believe may have ended up in time being labeled as disinformation. So, who makes the decision as to who determines what's disinformation and what's not? One thing that you may think is disinformation, I may believe is fact.”

Things went pretty much the way one would expect of a committee run by James Comer that has Marjorie Traitor Goon and professional statutory rape enthusiast Lauren Boeber as members, along with prime examples of gatorbait like Clay Higgins.

Jaime Raskin was having fun today, running rings around the mentally-challenged, maladapted, malicious, mendacious and malevolent feral children of the House Republicans who serve on the committee. He opened with:

"We return not to focus on advancing this robust agenda of progress, but instead, to take up an authentically trivial pursuit, all based on the obsessive victimology of right-wing politics"

The entire House Republican committee majority hearing about Twitter wasn’t about censorship of conservatives but Republicans abusing their power to threaten media companies and infringe on their First Amendment rights.

Rep. Clay Higgins warned former Twitter employees that they would be arrested for rigging the 2020 election as the hearing flailed and failed.

Higgins said, “You, ladies and gentlemen, interfered with the 2020 election knowingly and willingly. That’s bad news. It’s going to get worse, because this is the investigation part. Later comes the arrest part. Your attorneys are familiar with that. Mr. Chairman, I’d like to spend five hours with these ladies and gentlemen on depositions that are yet to come.”

To which Jamie Raskin explained that the former Twitter employees were in a private company, and their actions were protected by the First Amendment. “Twitter can decide what content it publishes and which users it allows on its platform. The employees committed no crime. There will be no depositions or criminal trials.”

He went on to explain to the mentally-challenged Higgins and the rest of the Klown Posse what the First Amendment means:

“In America, private media companies can decide what to publish or how to curatecontent however they want. If Twitter wants to have nothing but tweets commenting on New York Post articles all day, they can do that. If it makes sure such posts never see the light of day, they can do that too. That’s what the First Amendment means.

“Twitter can ban Donald Trump for inciting violent insurrection against the union, as he was impeached by the House of Representatives and as 57 of 100 senators found he did, and it can also try to resurrect his career.

“Elon Musk just purchased Twitter. He controls its editorial content, and among the first things he did was fire some people, hire some people, denounce some prior decisions, and reinstate an unrepentant and still lying Donald Trump to the platform.

“Those decisions, no matter how heroic or imbecilic you think they might be are protected by the First Amendment in the United States of America.”

The hearing was a fiasco that failed to prove anything Republicans promised that they would prove. If the feral children thought that they could erase their failure last night with a Twitter hearing today, they were wrong. They managed to reinforce their complete disconnect to any objective reality.

The Twitter employees told them that, far from Twitter banning conservatives, Donald Trump frequently requested that tweets posted that he didn’t like be taken down, and they were by top management at the direction of Jack Dorsey.

The MAGA message delivered by the feral children is that the government will tell you what free speech is, and if you try to use your First Amendment rights to say you are banning language that incites an insurrection, or gets people killed by misinformation during a pandemic, or jeopardizes lives by radicalizing potential mass shooters, we will come after you.

This is the state of the Republican Party and the people who are supposed to be conducting legislative oversight.

It’s going to be a long 22 months.
