George Santos, or whatever his real name is, is a sociopath. He has lied about his entire life, down to the smallest, most insignificant details, all in service of his theft. He is mentally unstable, as are the rest of the Republicans. Relying on office holders to have good character is not a good foundation for the country. I was more vetted to be a preschool teacher.

That's right! We need to have a law making legitimately qualifying for a security clearance be one of the preconditions for gaining access to classified information No Matter Who You Are. It's a simple extension of the principle of equality before the law no matter who you are, regardless of your connections and resources.

True, that might now and then prevent a member of congress or the Senate from serving on a committee. So be it. Too true, that might one day (again) disqualify a president from easy direct access to top secret documents necessary to do their job, but since the alternative would be having such a person handling highly sensitive documents, why would anyone object?

The upshot would be either implicitly making being qualified for a security clearance into a precursor for nomination or else they would have to figure out some work around for the top levels of security. Qualified readers and advisors for example, as opposed to national secret selling and nepotism. I know which I think would work better for the nation.

Another precondition for serving in Congress should be passing the same U.S. citizenship test given to naturalization applicants.
