Following Merrick Garland’s announcement he is appointing well known public corruption and war crimes prosecutor Jack Smith as Special Counsel to handle the invetigations of Trump for his involvement in January 6 and for the documents stolen and and taken to Mar A Largo, MAGAword freaked out.
Wooo Hooo TC. This is it. I read his career bio from an earlier blog posting by a member ((forget who). Jack Smith has everything needed. The MAGA crowd should be checking out where their bunkers and safe houses are. This man is not coming from the Hague to lose a case. Trump, if he has brains left, should scared to death---and so should the vast array of fellow and sister losers who are going to be swept up as detritus. It can't come soon enough. With MTG and Cong. Jordan, among others of their ilk, in House committee chairs, the media will have abundant grist for the irony and sarcasm mill. We won’t see much legislative progress, barring defections from the GOP ranks, but we will have lots of amusement and abundant ammunition for 2024.
I am reminded of political action thrillers when I consider the resume and the unassuming name of Jack Smith. May he go down in history for taking down Goliath and the goon squad.

A turning point perhaps. Using the lame duck session to fund DOJ's special counsel seems like a very smart idea. In the meantime, I have been listening to a lecture by Marci Shore of Yale University and thinking about the Maidan struggle - the Revolution of Dignity that took Yanukovich down (but unfortunately brought Paul Manafort to the former guy). Seems like we should all be working to strengthen civic society (create the world we envision and that we believe can be made real) and mount daily or even every week demos in DC and around the country to speak truth to the gop "power" which will be flooding the zone with propaganda the likes of which we are just beginning to get. Their presser was the first salvo of stupidity and venality and it will not be the last. This crowd that will now control the house with perhaps 2 votes (wonder what it really will be since it looks like Boezo of CO has won) will not let any sane person come up for air. So it behooves anyone supportive of democracy and human dignity to not let this crowd drown out our voices or ideas in favor of the very unfunny circus we're going to get full on beginning January.
