That is great news indeed Tom, as someone who was medivaced by dustoff pilots I totally get what courage it took to fly those missions, I loved those guys. I had a friend, also a warrent officer, named Murden, who flew 2 tours extracting the wounded from hot LZ's, he was in the Air Force and had a Navy Corpsman who was his medic that received the Medal of Honor, his name was Pitsenberger (sp?), the Navy named a ship after him. They made a movie about him called "The Last Full Measure" that had me crying the whole time I watched it. Murden was one of the bravest men I have ever known, and I have known a lot of them, he's gone now alas, I loved him like a brother, his daughter who I was seeing at the time had no idea what a hero her father was, I got it. I was proud to shake his hand, he volunteered to go back for a second tour, with a family at home, knowing exactly what he was getting in to, wrap your mind around that. The elected Repugnantkin garbage in DC have no clue what an American hero looks like, they are cowards, the whole lot of them, I despise them, every one of them.
...and they haven't been teaching ANYTHING about it...not ANYWHERE.
I was having a conversation with a much, much younger friend and neighbor a few years ago and I mentioned how strange it was to watch a president resign and vanish. he had no idea what I was talking about. I asked him what he knew about Watergate, and he said he'd HEARD about it, but it was just some kind of political scandal and they spent no time in it in his American History class. now this guy went to Bronx Science less than twenty years ago and makes a lot of money writing code, but...
reading that Medal of Honor citation, it occurred to me that I've always been scared of crossing Queens Boulevard.
absolutely. but for me, the most egregious (and dangerous) miseducation area is History and Civics. and because No Child Left Behind (which still holds sway, whatever bullshit people may claim) COMPLETELY ignored these areas, it won't be getting better for a long time. if ever.
If you have time, TC, I've enjoyed reading this post, and would like to read anything else you might write about the heros whose names were replaced the Confederate names of the other bases.
Wow! Thank you for posting this good news story, TC. I love being able to catch up on a period of time I lived through but did not truly understand in any significant way. Blessings today.
Thanks for sharing this, Tom. It is good news, indeed. It was good to learn of your connection to the brave Novosels. Too bad the movie was never made.
CWO4 Michael J. Novosel, Sr, and his son, are both examples of what America used to be known for - brave dedicated, patriots who knew what the right thing was & DID it. Great name change for this GA fort. I'm sure its been an honor to know them, Tom.
They were building these bases in the South for World War II training, and needed to get appropriations through a congress controlled through seniority by "southern Democrat" congressmen. So they continued the "Myth of the Lost Cause" and all the southern Democrats voted the money.
Wow! Thank you so much for this news. Go Croats! Delighted to read about the honor accorded the heroic Medevac pilot and the name change. Good for all concerned.
Thank you so very much Tom.
Ft. Rucker was our crews stomping ground for quite a
while and along with gun ship
training out of Savanna, GA
was the culmination of nearly
2 years intensive helicopter
training. Our daughter was born there and after my husband was killed, we went
back and settled there for a
long time. A beautiful base,
with many happy memories.
They have chosen the absolute perfect warrior
aviator to rename it after.❤
Thank you for your first hand account and experience. My condolences on the loss of your husband.

TC, thanks again for sharing a story mostly forgotten by history; most Americans do not know what happened in Vietnam.
Yep

American Public Miseducation extends to all areas.

Damn! That's an incredible story TC, thanks for sharing it. Odd that it didn't get much news coverage.
Surprise surprise.
I wish it was a surprise.
Oorah!

Great story and outcome. Honoring Confederates is just wrong!
I've always wondered how and why the fuck that naming of bases ever happened to begin with...
They were building these bases in the South for World War II training, and needed to get appropriations through a congress controlled through seniority by "southern Democrat" congressmen. So they continued the "Myth of the Lost Cause" and all the southern Democrats voted the money.
About time someone said eff ‘em!
now I know!
thanks, Tom.

Wow, what a story! Fitting they will honor him with that rename.
There really should be a movie.
I accidentally sent that before I was done. But now that I see it, I think it says it all. They were true heroes.
Thank you for for telling us
Curious. What was Sr’s call sign?
"Dustoff-88" - he was a pianist when not flying.
And there’s your movie title about the man and his missions.
Unfortunately it was seen as a "Vietnam movie" nd "We don't do Vietnam movies anymore."
Re-write it for Ukraine instead maybe?
Thank you, TC, for sharing this story of an extraordinary man. The base is being honored by receiving his name.
Simply Outstanding Ty for reporting TC
What a Patriotic American Soldier
He is America’s Finest what a Hero💙
Blessings Forever , Marsha
