...and they haven't been teaching ANYTHING about it...not ANYWHERE.

I was having a conversation with a much, much younger friend and neighbor a few years ago and I mentioned how strange it was to watch a president resign and vanish. he had no idea what I was talking about. I asked him what he knew about Watergate, and he said he'd HEARD about it, but it was just some kind of political scandal and they spent no time in it in his American History class. now this guy went to Bronx Science less than twenty years ago and makes a lot of money writing code, but...

reading that Medal of Honor citation, it occurred to me that I've always been scared of crossing Queens Boulevard.

absolutely. but for me, the most egregious (and dangerous) miseducation area is History and Civics. and because No Child Left Behind (which still holds sway, whatever bullshit people may claim) COMPLETELY ignored these areas, it won't be getting better for a long time. if ever.
