I confess to wondering how much the authors, who are with The New York Times and The New Yorker, knew about any of this at the time. I suspect they didn't. But it reminds us anew that anyone who is still loyal to the republican party is guilty of treason as defined by Article III, Section 3 of that document that republicans can't stand, the Constitution.

It certainly does. I am particularly drawn to these sentences in Milley's draft letter of resignation:

It’s now obvious to me that you don’t understand that world order. You don’t understand what the war was all about. In fact, you subscribe to many of the principles that we fought against. And I cannot be a party to that.

I'm about half way through and taking a break to get back in touch with reality. If I hadn't read 7 Days in May by Fletcher Knebel and Charles Bailey I'd deny that anyone could write such a story but the truth here is much stranger and far more frightening than the fiction.

Indeed it is!

Here’s a little story…trump and his trophy wife were given a special tour of the USS Arizona Memorial while they were on their way to a conference in Japan. While going through the visitors’ center and the Memorial itself out on Battleship Row to lay a wreath, trump looked visibly bored and disinterested, asking very few questions, again like a little kid who was bored going through a museum on a school field trip. However, on the following day on the way back to Hickam for departure, trump made sure to stop at his namesake hotel property in Waikiki to look things over, spending quite some time there…guess you can see where his priorities lie, huh?

I thought about a dick joke right about here, but it just seemed so TASTELESS...

You skipped tasteless, David, 🍎🍎🍎🍎🍎. Bragging is a fine alternative.

I guess the over thousand dead in the hull of the Arizona are all "losers" in 45's world. That would fit with his ethos--or lack of it.

Let’s not forget he passed on a visit to a cemetery at Normandy because it was raining. Macron and his wife stood in the rain out of respect of the soldiers who died on D-Day to liberate Europe, but trump didn’t want to get his hair and makeup wet…

The details are like a punch to the solar plexus! And the problem is that if any one of those military officers had spoken publicly about all of this (we only knew the most basic details publicly), they would have likely not been believed by any of TFG's supporters even though there are many of us who would have understood! I believe that the cited officers were caught in a Catch 22 situation.

Indeed they were and we can be damned glad they were there.

Don't you just looooove being an "I told you so"?

Yes, and I hope this is the third and final strike that takes down the monster in this horror show. I can’t wait to see the guests on tonight’s news!

I told them so at my TV at 9 a.m. January 6th, screaming "You need 6,000 DC officers not 600! 60,000!!!" It was true. Thank Goddess for Milley.

How the eff did that little weenie McEntee , to say nothing of Patel, end up where they landed? Not all of this was new of course, but my mouth is completely dry having not been able to put my jaw back in place during the reading. No wounded in his parade? Because it made HIM look weak? My best college girlfriend’s brother was nominated to replace Flynn. So many times over the years I’ve applauded his wisdom in declining. Time for wine, perhaps in copious amounts.

McEntee - former college football player, got on Trump's staff in the campaign as his "body man," then fired when he couldn't pass a security clearance due to gambling then Trump rehired him and put him in charge of hiring/firing all political appointees and checking them for "loyalty."

oh yeah...for quite some time, he's struck me as a very dangerous young man.

I know, but who the heck believed him capable? Again, redundant.

A horrifying and long read......we, as in the U.S., were hanging by threads in those days.....the guys around Trump all knew we were on the edge of a cliff- even the " public sycophants" knew

What this really brings home to me is how very little we the people actually know about what is really going on at that level.---EVER , even now in the Biden years!

But when a crazy, wounded ego is still wielding the highest power, we are only seconds, and one or two rational players, away from global disaster. This man can never hold public office again!! If he does, we won't be reading a gripping Glasser& Baker retrospective that has a "whew!" at the end of the story. There will be no "whew"!

Milley held to the best of military values, thank God! Imagine the intestinal fortitude, courage and integrity needed to try to " land that plane"!

It is both terrifying and reassuring that such events could have taken place but didn’t.

I am glad that the oath to “support and defend the constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; and I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same” means something, at least to some.

TC, thanks for the post, and thanks to Sharon for posting the link to the Times.

MaryPat, A search warrant has been granted to raid your premises. Those yellow jackets were stolen from Melania. They are the garments she wore when spending the night with Donald. I will not divulge any more at this time.
