Personally, I celebrate Josh Stein's win in the NC Governor's race! He's a good man. His opponent was the Black version of the orange sadist. The fact that voters turned down the grotesque robins-son gives me hope that they will also turn down the grotesque orange sadist, and elect Harris, a very good woman. I'll take every bit of good news I can get!!

Yes, good, but Allred lost to Cruz.

I am SO upset about that. I had deliberately stayed away from the news until the past 25 minutes or so. I know now what the stories mean when they say of a person who has lost a war, that their mouth felt "filled with ashes". That is how I feel. I keep realizing over and over, each as if for the first time, "It's over. It's over. This is no longer the land in which I was born and have lived for my entire life. We're leaving." The only thing that helps to lighten the millstone that now sits in my heart, and threatens to choke me, is that I had decided a long time ago that if the orange sadist won, and our country was no longer a democracy, we would not stay. I have done a bit of research about which countries are possibilities for our move. I have more work to do. But I am so thankful that I made this decision long ago. I have no agonizing about should we go, or should we stay? No. We go. And with that certainty, I can breathe again. My country is dead. The wealthy and the powerful have destroyed it. Hitler lives again. It's all over.

Portugal is inexpensive and it's easy to get a residency visa.

Actually Portugal has changed their policy on emigration and dissolved their tax agreement with the U.S. You will be taxed on all income including Social Security along with the taxes you pay in the U.S. on your income. The Golden Visa program has been dissolved also and Portugal also changed the Digital Nomad visas.

That's what I was finding out. (Are you saying that a person will therefore be DOUBLE-taxed on SS?!)

if you have any direct Irish ancestry, Ireland is probably good. my grandnephew can probably manage Italy because his grandparents were born there. I can go...where? ISRAEL??

England's a shithole, but I love it. but emigrating there would be impossible for me. I just don't have enough money. my place is worth a lot of money, but housing there is more expensive than it is here. I have an English cousin with a house in London, but that would require me being a schnorrer, and it's not like we're close friends or anything.

this is me, thinking aloud.

inthe meantime, I have LOTS of these gummies and plan on staying very high for the next week or so.

but the bottom line is that right now, it feels like my actuarial situation might have changed pretty radically last night.

I know, I know...only if I let it. but how true is that, really?

LOL!!! Marvelous! I wonder how many of our actuarial situations (as you put it) changed last night!

Direct ancestry -- does that count Druid ancestry? (Yes, I actually have a Druid ancestor, albeit 1,800 years ago.) I wonder if I could prove it on Ancestry, would they accept it? I mean, I wouldn't think that many people can prove that they are a Druid descendant.

Husband: Nepali. Don't want to live there.

Many ancestors in every country (even one Chinese couple), back to Mesopotamia (Ur-Nammu). No sure I want to live there, either, come to think of it.

Oh, well... Guess we'll just have to find my own way.

No gummies in SC. My daughter did dope herself up with Melatonin, and pretty much slept away part of yesterday, all night, and is only getting up and around now.

Interesting that you say that, because that is the country I am most leaning toward! My research shows, however, that new restrictions make it much harder to get the residency visa.

Naturally I would wait when a friend had no problem six months ago.

That recent? Good news!

My research led me to France. IтАЩm leaving to explore cities next week. Our country will not see democracy as a form of government again during my lifetime. I choose democracy over despotism.

Would you be willing to share with me what you find? (Might be easier if you email me: kdsherpa@bellsouth.net)
