If this is the level of “sparked outrage” then the DEI initiatives are in serious trouble. I don’t think the outrage could be more mealy mouthed, this would certainly not be the level of GOP outrage in similar situations. Quit dancing around the issues and get truly outraged and vocal. Start boycotting companies that show they have no morals, not everything in life can be transactional.
I got into it with a former co-worker’s wife over the Tractor Supply thing. Her stance was that “most”rural customers were “against” DEI. I asked if they were against equality, and she said “no”. I asked about equity, like equal pay for men and women, and she said “no”; I followed up with different pay for Blacks and Native Americans and she said “oh heck no”. I asked if she thought that gay people should be treated fairly at work, and she said “absolutely”! I asked her what about Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion bothered her.
That is beyond any reason. Do women not realize that political action is why she can vote. Another no shit. People likely are against how the cretin MAGAts present DEI as taking something away from them.
The quoted sentence by Starbuck “People should go to work without having to feel like they have to behave a certain way in order to be acceptable to their employer” is one of the most ridiculous things I've seen lately. Apparently he feels people who feel like harassing their coworkers should be able to behave that way without the discomfort of feeling disapproved of by their employer. If they want to crack racial jokes or grope female coworkers they should feel comfortable doing so. It's the coworker who is being a snowflake about it, not the employee who apparently melts at a hint their actions aren't acceptable to the employer (obviously only the boss' approval counts). He not only doesn't want to give everyone an equal chance at employment, training and advancement, he doesn't even want to have to treat people inside the workspace with common decency. I bet I know who would be the first to whine if asked not to wear his Fascists Do it Meaner Tee to work...
Thank you for this disgusting post, Tom. The MONEY first, honor and justice last plays right into the hands of the fascists. Apparently the damage fascism did to the entire globe from 2015 to 1945 was not sufficient to allay the greed of today's authoritarians, they need to try for entire world dominance thank you MAGAts for your assistance in this cause. This is also a wake up call to the rest of us, forget your petty squabbles, support the only team ready and capable to help. Biden/Harris and Democrats all the way. Let democracy work to mitigate the over-heated climate, provide more jobs for ALL Americans and continue to repair our damaged infrastructure. Damaged, I might add by the greed of Corporate America that refused needed maintenance in favor of hoarding more money.
So civil rights are now labeled as a “socially-motivated messages”, because that's what DEI is - an extension of the civil rights movement to ensure that people are treated equally, and in areas where racism and misogyny has festered. It was all under the covers until trump emboldened racists with, well, everything he's said since the 2016 campaign.
And Robby Starbuck? The Cuban? Who didn't change his name so he could "pass"? Sure...
Where does this "Cuban-American" designation come from. He was born in California. Maybe one of his parents is/was Cuban but neither parent is identified in any of the articles I perused, and a couple describe his ethnicity as "unknown".
“People should go to work without having to feel like they have to behave a certain way in order to be acceptable to their employer.”
when I first read this, my response was "uhhh...isn't 'behaving a certain way in order to be acceptable to their employer' pretty much the way a job WORKS?" isn't this whole deal why people get FIRED??
if I'm missing something, someone needs to enlighten me.
if this guy's right, why did I get shitcanned that time I threw a phone against the wall?
And correct me if I misunderstood this, but is HE employed at any of these businesses where he wants be "large & in charge" of how the business is run? Or is he just someone with a microphone - or perhaps - a twitter account?
My question would be why does HE get to have the say on this?
And yeah, David - thats how I understood a job works - when I was gainfully employed.
Thats another thing - IS this guy employed anywhere?
I wonder what this guy's reaction would be if his dentist entered the room high and yelled, "Drill, Baby, Drill" as he stumbled across the room. No DEI there, but business conduct would certainly be an issue.
It seems like CEO’s have read Snyder’s book and are taking it as a reverse manual. E.g., NBC pushing Morning Joe off the air last Monday. Good ol’ obeying in advance. And now Trump world is pushing Jamie Dimon for Treasury Secretary. More CEOs will swoon and be obeying in advance.
This will be the new normal if TFG gets into office. You, as a company, will be told how to conduct business, that you can only hire certain people working for you and that no women are to be hired, because, from then on, the women will be kept "barefoot, pregnant and chained to the sink". Do we really want this country to step back 100+ years?
“People should go to work without having to feel like they have to behave a certain way in order to be acceptable to their employer,” he said. Since when? Of course an employer has expectations about employees' conduct. What an idiotic comment there. Oh, and yeah, tell it to the Army.

Totally right.
If you boycott make sure the company knows why and publicly state your boycott reasons.

“The politics”. No shit.
Sigh
That is beyond any reason. Do women not realize that political action is why she can vote. Another no shit. People likely are against how the cretin MAGAts present DEI as taking something away from them.
Ugh. Ally. What on earth do we have to do?
Thank you for your post from a fellow Oregonian ❤️.
Eugene here.

I have never worked in a place that didn't have some sort of standards. That Starbuck statement was ridiculous. It was also cowardly, in my opinion.

Or just another influencer.

Damn, Jamie Dimon should fit right in with the cretins
OH SHIT, NO! Not Jamie Dimon!!!!

I no longer buy from Tractor Supply.
Remind Dems of this. Not us “in the trenches” types, but the smartest people in the Dem leadership

We have a John Deere tractor. I will never buy another thing from them again.
TOM WILL NOT HAVE INTERNET UNTIL TUESDAY.

Remember - Tractor Supply doesnt sell tractors. They sell feed - flowers etc etc.
They do sell mowers. It is John Deere that just made the news as they followed the example of Tractor Supply.
Yes, I'm aware that Tractor supply does sell lawn tractors.
Both organizations were mentioned - remembered seeing a post from someone on another blog that obviously didnt realize that about Tractor Supply.
That sort of popped into my head when I saw your Kubota link.
