To me, the most inspiring thing this weekend has been the demonstrations that took place in places one wouldn’t expect, or places where it’s not so easy as it is here in LA.
This report from Nancy Effley in Anderson SC is exactly that. When it happens like this for folks like Nancy and her husband, it means we’re winning. We’re creating a national movement, and we’re finding out that “our tribe” is everywhere.
On Saturday, April 5, my husband and I headed to downtown Anderson SC to participate in the Hands Off protest. Now we are both in our mid 70s and this was the first time either of us had ever participated in such an event. We were a bit anxious having been aware of demonstrations go bad in the past. As we approached the Anderson County Courthouse we were pleasantly surprised by the number of people already there. We live in a very red area of a very red state and every day I wake up to see the Thank You Trump flag flying on the house across the street. We joined the masses with our signs, chanted, cheered at honking cars and had a great time. My husband, who is a veteran of the Vietnam War , wore his Veterans Against Trump shirt. He met quite a few vets from Vietnam and Iraq. We both engaged in conversation with many people and felt comforted in knowing we are not as alone as we had previously felt. Everything was 100% pleasant and peaceful. It was a great!
And here, from Jeanne in Billings MT:
And from Ally House in Eugene OR:
And here is my good friend, the Very Formidable Candice Uhlir (the only woman to ever bring the USS Missouri to the dock as OOD - also champion at soaring the Sierra Wave and a for-real rocket scientist). This is outside her small town outside Sequoia National Park - population 1,000 (very red) and 100 people standing on the road to the park to remind people why the park is a mess. As she said, “elbows up!”
A final note from Michael Ferguson in Tucson AZ:
Hands off in Tucson, AZ where we had 15,000 people line 22nd Ave on both sides starting an hour before the event was scheduled to start. The weather was a perfect 70 degrees. The sounds of fighter jets flying overhead from nearby Davis-Montham Airbase. No counter-demonstrators were around, just lots of people expressing joy and togetherness. There were quite a few angry people fed up with Trump and his morons trying to run America judging by the comments from people. Lots of anti-Elon and anti-DOGE signs were present. The best sign I saw was MAGA - Morons Are Governing America.
We. Are. Everywhere!
A huge thank you to everyone in the red states that showed up and protested, even knowing that their opinion might not be very popular in their area! #HandsOff
Thank you, thank you, thank you. Collecting and sharing these stories from across the country and all districts: red, blue and purple gives so many of us a needed shot of inspiration that we can and are making a difference!
