How fortunate all of these beautiful cats are to have found you. The comfort and companionship they give is worth so very much. Honestly, I cant understand how anyone can live without them. I only have 3 now - Axel(dog), Smurf(cat) & Pookie(bird) but in taking care of them - it keeps me moving!
And youre right we do get that love back in many many ways.
Well, Tom, Smurfie looks an awful lot like Cookie - golden eyes & all. She is the first black cat that has ever come to live with me - many tigers (Juliette was one) & black & whites, but Smurf is all black - the weird thing is, my daughter has a black male cat (Felix) and my son has a black female (Lucy). He also has 3 others - all different - all unique!
Cookie looks like a sweetie. She may surprise you & hang around longer than you expect.
I love reading your cat stories. This one is especially sweet. Just last week a tiny tuxedo kitten was crying and the catch basin of the storm pipe in front of my house. My neighbor pulled up the grate, and pulled her out. She was so tiny, smaller than any kitten I've ever seen. I took her to the vet and she weighed a pound and a half. In the bed. Said that she should be at about 3 lb so she had some weight. The game. She likes to climb up her head on my shoulder and her little tiny body next to my ear. It's the best feeling in the world, especially when she has a motor running. She goes back to the vet in a few days for a follow-up. She looks bigger to me already, and she's very active. Doing zoomies in the morning after a morning. Nap and zoomies in the evening after an evening nap. I hope you're cookie is around for many more years, because I know how it feels to lose one that you're so close to. You never know, sometimes just being close helps , so maybe now that she's sleeping with you again, she'll perk up a little bit
Have you ever lived with a Tuxedo Cat? I read some things about them last night and one article said they only live 12 to 16 years, are intelligent, and like interacting with people.
I have three of them right now. 12-16 years is about right in my experience. They are certainly intelligent, and as Roscoe and Sweetie demonstrate every day, love interacting with people.
This is my first Tuxedo, and maybe the youngest stray I've brought in. She's isolated as a precaution, so I spend a lot of time with her. First time in the room, she went to a chifforobe and tried to pen the door, figured out how to get into a chair that she couldn't jump into, by grasping the underside and climbing upside down and around the edge, to get to the top. seemed pretty clever for a kitten that the Vet said probably left her Mom a little too soon. I remember Sweetie, I'll have to go back and read your Cat posts againto check out the others.
Thank you for sharing Cookie's story. I especially like the photo of the two of you. The bond between you is obvious. I hope that I will have a special cat in my life again sometime. Blessings to you both.
Your love for your cats reminds me of all the cats I’ve loved and how lonely it is without a feline companion. Maybe it’s time to rethink my decision not to get another cat.
Lost "Little Boy Cat" on Sunday night. I never named him because I wasn't going to keep him. That was 15 years ago. Thank You for your wonderful Cookie story. Helps me to grieve.
I had one that I wasn’t going to keep too. Finally named him Snoodie because he loved to “snoodle.” He was a a jewel and was with us for about 18 years. They worm their way into your heart. I lost my orange Katy on Sunday morning. Grieving with you.
So sorry for your loss, Jeri and MaryPats - they are part of our family - I guess for some people they might be their whole family. I raised my kids to feel the same way I do about animals and we all have our menageries.
My Dad had dogs. several that were brown with black eyebrows, all named Bruno. No cats around, just a feral I tried to feed. Had no cats til some creep threw a bag of kittens in the school yard where I worked. Been a cat mom ever since... They are unconditional love if one is kind.
I was always animal crazy to the extreme - only had one dog when I was a kid, but we always had cats & since it was before spay & neuter (!) lots of kittens. Then there were the chickens & eventually my horse. And true, unconditional love!
Even the chickens, I was always afraid of them, maybe because of the rooster. But unconditional love in some unexpected places. I was given and I gave back. We are so lucky.
Your cookie is a blessed kittie, loved and so beautiful. Started with a black one, have one now. My Rudy was in a bag of kittens thrown in the school yard where I was a counselor. Some first graders took them, except for the black one. I got him, barely had eyes open. We fed him with my daughter’s doll baby bottle. When he peed down my husband’s shirt while feeding, they were bonded forever. We had him for eight years and he was king. Never knew he was a throw away. Had to part when he developed tumors all down his spine. Still miss that sweet boy. Got a girl now, black with the most beautiful green eyes. Saw her pic in the paper and went to get her. She had been adopted, then returned. So we were destined, I guess. She is still young (about eight) and I am old. Hope to Take care of her awhile longer. My Rudy used to like to sleep in the bathroom sink, that pic almost like the one I have. Thank you.
My current black beauty, Lulu, likes to sleep under the cover. I have pics of two cats on the bed and one lump. Now I will only have one on top and one lump under. So miss my orange Katy. I have an album with their pics and their idiosyncrasies. Such personalities. Is a book in the offing for you? You have plenty of material for The Feline Therapists.
I tend to a menagerie of abandoned cats, here on the
mountain, where I live.
I guess people think you can just dump a domesticated, or
abused cat off in the forest and it will live or die.
Cookie is beautiful TC. We have a solid black here to.
Ebony. His eyes are green.
Ivory is his brother of a different mother.😁 They were both born under my
trailer 12 years ago, on the
same day. Where you see
1, the other is soon to follow.
Then there's Luna. Solid grey,
bobtail. He's a special Russian breed of cat that came staggering up out of
the forest behind my home,
with a collar that had not
snapped apart and had twisted around his neck,
down over his shoulder and
under his leg, causing a terrible wound. I took care
careof him and he has been here now 18 mos. He had
definitely belonged to
someone though. He is the
guardian now that Sadie has
left the mountain and sits at
the top of my drive at night.
Then there's little Tippy. He's the only survivor of the 3 kittens that were dumped last
year. He's a sweetheart and
likes me a lot.
These are 4 of about 10 cats that have picked me out. Every morning they are on
my porch, tails waving hello.
They all let me pet them, but
only Tippy lets me hold him.😁
I am still having a hard time
adjusting to not having my
beautiful Sadie here. I've
had 2 people just walk
into my house. Sadie was a
dual purpose hearing assist
and service dog. Even in her
last week, when she was feeling so miserable, she was
was still alerting me when
someone came. Struggling up
to be at the door. She had
never retired after 16-1/2 yrs.
The cats here and here on TAFM make me smile. The
love we give, they all; dog, cat, return in more than
a hundred different ways.
Thank you all for sharing your
stories and you especially Tom, for sharing this part of
your life. ❤

What a blessing you are to so many
Flattery will get you everywhere, Jeri! :-)
Not flattery if it's true. Don't deny it
Awe...Cookie is beautiful! You and your kitties have a special place in mine and my kitties hearts TC.
I love how you love Cookie!

That's a nice story too.

Great story TC, and a great way to end the week. Thanks.

Charlie Girl was 8 when we found each other. We had 10 great years together. I hope you have a few more with Cookie.
Your love for your cats reminds me of all the cats I’ve loved and how lonely it is without a feline companion. Maybe it’s time to rethink my decision not to get another cat.
Go get the oldest kitty in the shelter, because they have the least chance to escape.

Never fear. Cookie is a dead ringer for my late McCone and she lasted over 20 years. So...4 more years. A presidential kitty
Sweet! Thanks...!
I'm not a cat guy, more of a dog lover, but hey, a pet is special. Glad to see your special family member and you.
I hope you decide to get another cat Martha. I can’t imagine my life without mine.
Utter bliss. 😻😻❤️
