It turns out that Burton Blume - son of Wilbur Blume, the 340th Bomb Group’s documentarian/bombardier who made “Training in Combat,” the film starring Joseph Heller as “Pete, the replacement bombardier” - sued the National Archives in 2014 to get them to release the remaining film of the movie.
I dont know if many here will remember Dean - one of the commenters for months - she became an online friend for me for the past few months. I just received an email from her son letting me know that she had passed away in January. I hadnt heard from her in several weeks & had no answers to my emails. Perhaps you remember her fondness for her grandson. She will be greatly missed.
I agree - her son sent me her obituary which enabled me to "buy a memorial tree" to be planted in her memory & of course the usual flowers & sympathy cards.
Seemed to me planting a tree was a good way to remember her.
I do remember her. It’s really heartening to experience the bonds that develop here. Thank you for letting us know. A tree is a beautiful way to honor her and how nice that her son reached out to you.

She will be missed. She was one of the most on-point commenters here - and given the competition for that among you, that's a big compliment.
Very sad to hear that, Dean's comments were invariably on point and pithy. She'll definitely be missed.

She probably got a lot out of your online friendship.
I know I got a great deal out of it - even for a short time - she was a good friend.
That's wonderful. I'm glad for both of you.
😥💔
I remember her very well. that's awful.
she will certainly be missed.
Thank you for opening a window into the National Archives.
