What he was looking for metaphorically was to say that a constitutional democratic republic turns out to be incredibly fragile. It depends on everyone deciding they will play by the rules. If one comes along and won't, it can send the fragile vase spinning off the shelf to smash on the floor. When I heard him use that metaphor, I cheered - he's the first to point out this isn't something you can kick around to score a goal with.

Definitely get that part however the tone of voice and the completeness of his thought was not all that super IMHO.
