When an attempt is so egregious that even this so-called Supreme Court notices, that is something.

I thought to myself finally some good news! And I will take it. BUT- WTF do we have to celebrate something that should never have happened on the first place ? AL should not have dawn such fucked up maps and should have changed them as soon as the Supreme Court ordered it. Instead they flaunted it like a bratty 2 Y.O. And had to be spanked again!

And we have no faith or proof that they will comply this time.

FFS--scOTUS quietly saying "Uh, we meant what we said."

SCOTUS reminds me of the Texas "two step" - one step forward, two steps back. So, today, we get a forward motion. What will the morrow bring?

Cynic that I am, I think Roberts and Kavanaugh are sensing the crumbling of their own institution's rep and are throwing a small bone to a small-minded dog of a state.

Well, blow me over. Hate to wonder what is coming next. However, the crumbs taste damn good.

Something about a broken analog clock being correct twice a day comes to mind…so does Abalama finally capitulate and obey SCOTUS or just drag their feet implementing the ruling? Methinks the latter…like a spoiled kid not getting their way and sulking while chewing their veggies.

I'm sure they will argue that "no affirmative action" argument. But without a stay they will be forced to implement one of the three maps in the meantime.

They have to have maps in place in order to begin the election process. I don't know about Alabama, but in most states that deadline is approaching.

There was a time when most people couldn't name three Supreme Court justices or even how many there were. because their job was to ruminate, weigh things, study precedents, consider impacts. In other words they were the nerds doing their homework in the library every night while everyone else was distracted with activity and attending campus parties. It wasn't such a bad thing really because we took it for granted that if we sat by them in class we'd learn. But now corruption, collusion, and pronounced political biases have spotlighted and black-lighted these current folks in such a way that all their cooties show. This is a feeble attempt to begin the fumigation. (And, yes, they too were attending all those parties.)

They could not have gone back on their previous ruling - of course they could have, but thankfully they did not. Still...Thomas, Alieto, Barrett, Gorsuch - what a crowd. Now - how will Alabama try to get around this second ruling against them?

Oh, they'll try. One thing about Southerners is the stupid ones are persistent with their stupidity.

From the South, boy, do I agree. My bros have hung on to their ignorance like it’s treasure. They are not stupid, they are ignorant and committed.

You kind of have to look at Wisconsin which is so badly gerrymandered that no matter how many thousands of votes democrats bring out, the seats in the legislature are still won by the gop. Of course that has happened throughout the south - and in NC although the dems managed to gain the governorship, the gerrymandered legislature has passed legislation curtailing everything the governor can do to protect elections! It does not take a brainiac to understand what the game is all about with this crowd.

I’m from NC and have a niece in Wisconsin. Both states are embracing hatred as policy.

My goodness! We all have so much work to do to make the pro.ise of democracy real. Don't give up!

I developed a theory about Texas when I was there in 1968. It's a magnifying glass: the awful people are Really Awful and the good people are Really Good. I have another theory about the Really Good in Texas: they're more really good than elsewhere because it's harder to do, to not slide down with the Really Awful.
