Ok. I stand corrected. Your argument seems backed up by the polling. Focus on abortion and privacy rights generally. Let the 1/6 Committee sell itself.

Thanks for the good news. I hope every Democrat running for office follows your script!

Now that the radical right wing cult court has trampled all over everyone’s right to privacy and safety, the pseudo-conservatives are happy for the moment.

TC has been ringing bells for 'reasonable' hope that democrats will do better than expected in the midterm elections, to quote, ‘But only if we work on it.’ Open your eyes to read the diligently compiled polls; there is not a whisper of exaggeration in ABORTION AND THE 2022 MID-TERM.

‘Democrats should be campaigning 24/7 on the desire of Republicans to make abortion illegal nationwide, and on the Supreme Court’s dislike of Privacy - which protects contraception, interracial marriage, and gay marriage’

'But if the red wave doesn’t show up, or is smaller than expected, the reason will be Dobbs, not some revelation from the January 6th hearings'. (TC) That does not rule out, TC, a dynamite revelation from the hearings, which blows the Republicans’ boat right out of the water.

Activists and pro-democracy voters would be even more motivated to learn what most don't realize concerning who and what has been behind the ‘pro-life movement’ and their big plans for our future.

‘Christian Nationalists Are Excited About What Comes Next’

By Katherine Stewart, reporter on the religious right for more than a decade. She is the author of “The Power Worshippers: Inside the Dangerous Rise of Religious Nationalism.”

‘The shape of the Christian nationalist movement in the post-Roe future is coming into view, and it should terrify anyone concerned for the future of constitutional democracy.’

‘The Supreme Court’s decision to rescind the reproductive rights that American women have enjoyed over the past half-century will not lead America’s homegrown religious authoritarians to retire from the culture wars and enjoy a sweet moment of triumph. On the contrary, movement leaders are already preparing for a new and more brutal phase of their assault on individual rights and democratic self-governance. Breaking American democracy isn’t an unintended side effect of Christian nationalism. It is the point of the project.’

‘A good place to gauge the spirit and intentions of the movement that brought us the radical majority on the Supreme Court is the annual Road to Majority Policy Conference. At this year’s event, which took place last month in Nashville, three clear trends were in evidence. First, the rhetoric of violence among movement leaders appeared to have increased significantly from the already alarming levels I had observed in previous years. Second, the theology of dominionism — that is, the belief that “right-thinking” Christians have a biblically derived mandate to take control of all aspects of government and society — is now explicitly embraced. And third, the movement’s key strategists were giddy about the legal arsenal that the Supreme Court had laid at their feet as they anticipated the overturning of Roe v. Wade.’

‘They intend to use that arsenal — together with additional weaponry collected in cases like Carson v. Makin, which requires state funding of religious schools if private, secular schools are also being funded; and Kennedy v. Bremerton School District, which licenses religious proselytizing by public school officials — to prosecute a war on individual rights, not merely in so-called red state legislatures but throughout the nation.’

‘…this year’s rhetoric appeared more violent, more graphic and more tightly focused on fellow Americans, rather than on geopolitical foes.'

“The greatest danger to America is not our enemies from the outside, as powerful as they may be,” said former President Donald Trump, who delivered the keynote address at the event. “The greatest danger to America is the destruction of our nation from the people from within. And you know the people I’m talking about.”

'Speakers at the conference vied to outdo one another in their denigration of the people that Mr. Trump was evidently talking about. Democrats, they said, are “evil,” “tyrannical” and “the enemy within,” engaged in “a war against the truth.”

“The backlash is coming,” warned Senator Rick Scott of Florida. “Just mount up and ride to the sounds of the guns, and they are all over this country. It is time to take this country back.”

'Citing the fight against Nazi Germany … Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson of North Carolina said, “We find ourselves in a pitched battle to literally save this nation.” Referring to a passage from Ephesians that Christian nationalists often use to signal their militancy, he added, “I don’t know about you, but I got my pack on, I got my boots on, I got my helmet on, I’ve got on the whole armor.”

‘It is not a stretch to link this rise in verbal aggression to the disinformation campaign to indoctrinate the Christian nationalist base in the lie that the 2020 election was stolen, along with what we’re learning from the Jan. 6 hearings. The movement is preparing “patriots” for the continuation of the assault on democracy in 2022 and 2024.’

‘Seven Mountains Dominionism — the belief that “biblical” Christians should seek to dominate the seven key “mountains” or “molders” of American society, including the government — was once considered a fringe doctrine, even among representatives of the religious right. At last year’s Road to Majority conference, however, there was a breakout session devoted to the topic. This year, there were two sessions, and the once arcane language of the Seven Mountains creed was on multiple speakers’ lips.’

‘The hunger for dominion that appears to motivate the leadership of the movement is the essential context for making sense of its strategy and intentions in the post-Roe world. The end of abortion rights is the beginning of a new and much more personal attack on individual rights.

And indeed it is personal. Much of the rhetoric on the right invokes visions of vigilante justice. This is about “good guys with guns” — (NYTimes) See gifted link below.

“The Polls ..” had Hillary picking out her presidential dinnerware in early 2016!

In too many cases they give a false sense of security!

“The polls..” use a sampling technique! Who selects the sample?

Who writes the questions asked? In too many cases they trap the responder into an either or position which is not realistic.

“The polls…” rely on percents!

Recall that the crash of 2008 was precipitated by some quant working for AIG who claimed his computer model had 98% validity! Thus AIG held close to a trillion dollars of ‘markers’ from the Wall Street houses! Markers it could not cover!! Which begat Sec of Treasury, a former Goldman shyster, bailing AIG out dollar for dollar on its markers! I digress.

The only ‘poll’ that counts is the Election Day tally!

Beware, be vigilant, become active to get Democratic Party candidates elected in November!

What I would love to see is a raft of indictments from the DOJ (humor me, please), including the trolls in Trump's administration - Meadows, MTG, Boebert, Jordan, Trump's kids, and TFG his own self..... At the least, convictions would remove the leeches from Congress, never to be seen or heard from again..... Depending on how pissed Garland is over how the Repubs have treated him in the past, there could be dozens of Republican lawmakers who have to exit stage left.....

I agree, TC, we could win this!

very well put as usual, Tom. and a little bit heartening. I'm not surprised at the Repugs thinking of the abortion issue as negotiable and the Dems being the opposite. it makes sense, since, with that vile Dobbs decision, they probably assume that if both houses flip, they'll have the chance to pass all sorts of vile shit (national abortion ban, anyone?...everything was just so swell for women in, say, 1935), and since we know that's the case, it becomes the main issue, which it certainly is. plus there's that big Repug talking point about the most dangerous thing imaginable would be the radical Left agenda being promised by a Democratic win (Barr's reason for voting for his ex-boss should he run, despite the fact that the fat prick knows that ex-boss to be a lying felon about a hundred times over). of course, this agenda is neither remotely radical nor especially hard Left in any way. but we all know that. still, this news is only heartening if the Democrats start to campaign really, really hard on the abortion thing. I've never thought that the 1/6 Committee would be responsible for a Democratic sweep of any kind because people who remain fans of TFF are still insisting it's a partisan witch hunt because they're stupid. the ones who aren't stupid are the dangerous cynics like Bannon et al (just read a really scary piece about him in The Atlantic, from a few issues ago), who will do anything to stay "relevant," whatever the fuck that even means this week.

IF (a BIG IF) the Democratic leadership can run a good campaign in 2022, an increased Dem majority in the Senate (IF the Dems keep the House) could not only codify Roe and all the other "privacy" rights Clarence wants to trash, they could also pass all of Biden's original voting rights package, and pack the Court to balance what is now a "stolen" Court (and match the number of US Circuit Courts, which is how SCOTUS justices used to be set). IF we can win this year, we CAN take back the country from those who would impose a Christo-fascist (mainly fascist) authoritarian government on us.....

Is there any organized cheating on polls? On the ground that polling is "establishment", or to give the enemy a false hope, and oneself a surprise landslide victory on election day?
