I was an admirer before the interview. Now I’m in awe.

same here.

reading your post, Tom, I found I agreed with everything. it got me to thinking about the saints I might have known. right now, the only one who comes close is my dad, who got tested in very minor ways (certainly compared with CH), but came through. he didn't have to lose any friends, though...just a couple of wannabes. I had my own little moment, thought about what my then-recently departed father would have done, and refused to lie. hardly saintlike (in my case, I just had a few enemies hate me a little more), but I remember that moment, and it was TOUGH TO DO. it also cost me tens of thousands of bucks, but money is obviously not the point.

in CH's case, I still find it hard to believe she actually did what she did. that she might have to be a little paranoid about everything for the rest of her life SUCKS. I assume her Repug bona fides come from birth and upbringing because she seems to lack the thoroughgoing mean-spiritedness necessary to be in that particular cult with good standing. but ah!...who sez she is? well, yeah, SHE does. but she's not thirty yet, which gives her time to learn.

the fact that she's written a bestseller and will do well from its sales is a perfectly reasonable result...fair play to her, as my Irish friends might say.

I've even decided to relax my boycott of any more books about TFF's horrifying inability to observe anything anyone would recognize as Normal Human Behavior and buy CH's audiobook...she more than merits the ka-ching.

She commented about being a Republican and not like the party today. She referred back approvingly to Reagan and Rmoney. She'll learn.

I hope so. But whatever her future holds, her actions now are of immense integrity and exactly what this country needs.

She could learn quickly by reading this:

I just don't know how to get it to her.

That is a great article David.

She is still somewhat deluded about what the Repub party has devolved into. It’s not just a few bad apples. Hope she will run for her life from that rat’s nest. Maybe she will reinvent the party???

one can hope, but...

She, Adam, Liz, and Steve Schmidt would be a good start

I'm just not holding my breath. none of those names arouses anything but murderous loathing in that phenomenon which is still, unaccountably, referred to as the "Republican Party."

Watch her bit on MSNBC's Lawrence O'donnel tonight. So powerful, especially her link to Nixon's Alexander Butterfield!

She knows what is important, what is moral, what is ethical, what confers meaning and truth on her life. The great thing in all of this is no one needs to profess a faith in this or that denomination or particular way of understanding who or what the Holy may be. To act as if what you do with your life matters not just to you but to a future you yourself may not see is taking a leap - letting go and plunging into you're not sure what (kind of like Luke Skywalker - that imagery stays with me TC). That is the moment living becomes Life.

And based on sales figures of the book, she won't have to worry about what her financial future looks like. Many times - most times - doing the right thing doesn't have this outcome as one of the results.

Yes! She is definitely a saint. Fabulous presence, grace under pressure. 😻 I remember well my similar ordeal. Nothing on a grand national scale like her's but the same stakes. Livelihood, reputation, smack dab in the eye of the not so kind delusional collective gaze. After you come through it, and many don't, death or at least moving to an obscure third world country seemed a very viable option to me at the time, your soul has been through the psychic Car wash and although you were terrified of the massive brushes and your antenna is sorta bent you feel good inside. The internal night light has been switched on and it's easier to find your way down dimly lit paths. Not for the faint of heart choices like that but what darn thing is that is worth a farthing in this most alarming and beautiful world?

Ponder that many in the media are holding up Mitt Rmoney, 76, as a man of principle because he has criticized as evil the party he refuses to leave, and he dished to a book author rather than actually DOING something other than-wowsie wowsie woo woo--voting to convict Pol Potbelly. Whether or not Cassidy Hutchinson is a saint--and I go along with Brother Cleaver--Rmoney is an abettor of treason and has been doing so.

CH seemed desperate to find a good Repub. would rather she had picked Liz. Mitt is a wuss and a coward

Expand full comment

I honestly think that for most Repugs, politics should be handled by men.

plus Mitt is big on his RELIGION. it even makes him cry.

think about it...as "visible" as some House Repug women are, it just feels to me like the guys who run the party see them as useful idiots, who can also deflect our attention from what's REALLY going on.

At least, she picked Liz to back-channel and bailed on the tfg attorneys trap.

heard her this morning singing Liz's praises. Great. Would not have thought so before chump.

Everything is relative these days. But Joe is just the best...

I agree that she is virtuous. I hope she is able to endure and keep her values.

what I LOVED was that pained, sorta nauseated expression she had when she had to think about "dating" Matt Gaetz.

these days, doesn't the term "dating" stand as a synonym for "fucking?" my point is that Gaetz had no problem claiming he fucked her, assuming she'd just let it go. life continues to be just like high school in some quarters.

Republicans have yet to make it out of Middle School.

it's really funny you said that, Tom...I was really tempted to change "high school" to "junior high," which is definitely more accurate.

Expand full comment
author

In fact "Jr High" is more accurate than "middle school."

Expand full comment

"middle school" is a designation that didn't exist when I was in school. in my experience, "Middle Schools" or "Intermediate School" tends to include grades 5-8. we just had "junior high," which was usually 7-9. both of them are terrible ideas, since you're segregating kids at their most out-of-control. I've had some good (if unfortunately limited) experiences in schools that include K-8, in which you can have a "big sibling" program operating, which keeps the bigger kids from acting out too badly. at least usually...

Yeah, Jr High it was in my day. The only place worse than Sr High.

I noticed her slight pause after the word "serious," and I was expecting her to say "person." I think she was contemplating saying the same thing, but mebbe thought it was too "judgmental."

obviously, it's not.

Well, most saints got the honorific posthumously, sometimes after grisly deaths, standing up for what they believed in, no matter the ultimate sacrifice they had to endure. But for every saint, there are dozens, hundreds, even thousands who accommodated evil to their benefit or just to get along. Sort of like the trumpists, the MAGAts, and the silent masses of Germans who accepted Hitler, to name a few. Too bad there isn’t a Hell for them to burn in after they depart this mortal coil, though…their actions or inactions led to unleashing hell on Earth for so many others.

I watched her testimony live during the Jan. 6 committee hearings. When she was done, my first reaction was, "Holy Crap! She brought the receipts....." Her testimony provided the committee and no doubt Jack Smith's office with a start that has grown into major indictments of Donald Trump, and may in good time, lead to indictments of others involved in the conspiracy to overthrow the 2020 election. May she live long and prosper.....in peace.

I agree completely Tom. She is a saint. I saw her interview with Rachel too, and I was in awe of her bravery and composure. I bought her book today and look forward to reading it. Mark Meadows must be squirming like a night crawler. And hopefully so are the rest of the corrupt, spineless, Trump slime bags. And I loved the Matt Gaetz comment. She rocks!!

CH is a saint and a real patriot as opposed to being a flag fondling snake oil salesman or a yowling rallygoer tricked out in gauche distorted flag attire and red caps. The young woman certainly knows how to drop anvils on the heads of the powerful, Trump, Meadows, Gaetz, et. al. And the Irish, who are all into sainthoods, will canonize her for her first name alone.

Thanks for another great read, TMcC.
