Sure sounds good to me. Many of the other potential picks need to stay where they presently are - removing any Dem presently serving in Congress or the Senate leaves a vacancy they cant afford! This governor has already accomplished so much & obviously has allies in place to continue to do so.

Have been thinking along those lines with respect to one of my faves, Andy Beshear of KY. He needs to keep doing what he's doing. MN, OTOH, will carry on even if Tim Walz goes to Washington.

I feel that way about Mark Kelley in Arizona, too.

I agree. It's crucial that AZ keep Kelley, a great Dem, in the Senate.

I have felt that way about wonderful Beshear, as well. The odds of KY having a superb DEMOCRATIC governor in a state stinking from the smell of two grotesque pug Senators seems far-fetched to me. Keep him there!!

Harris needs a partner with military creds, and Walz has that along with his other virtues and successes mentioned here. But the right will check his record and call him a "communist socialist" (They don't know the difference.), so I hope he's ready for that. I like that he knows history because boyoboyo does this country need a crash course.

"Commie socialist pinko" accusations come with the territory. I think/hope they're beginning to lose their power. And I agree 100% that "this country needs a crash course." I often think that naturalized citizens know more about U.S. history and how government works than most who were born, grew up, and went to school here.

YES, YES, YES.

In addition to everything else, of the potential VPs on offer, Walz is the closest to being Joe Biden - decent, older, middle America at its best. That bodes well for a good working relationship with Madam President.

Yes indeed.

LOVE this guy! He was keynote speaker at our NH Dems annual Shaheen Dinner in April. He ROCKED it, and I had no idea of who he was going in. I was even a little sniffy --like-- who is this midwestern governor dude--not an A-lister like we had last year (Ro Khanna). I was singing a very different tune within mere minutes of him getting on the stage. HE is FANTASTIC! Now I wish I'd gotten him to autograph my program. Of the VEEP names I've been seeing, Walz is-- for me-- the one. Walznut. OK!

It sounds like Walz could actually add momentum to Harris’s campaign.

I know he could!

I’m fully behind Walz for getting the VP nod. He’s got what it takes, and like Ms Harris, he’s a sharp as a tack.

Thanks for your post last night, Derek.

I look forward to various Republicans sitting down on those tacks. <g>

I like both Tim Walz and Mark Kelly..... Kelly would bring lived experience in law enforcement, gun control, border issues and military affairs, all portfolios that need addressing. But he is in the Senate and the margin there will be razor-thin at best. He is on five committees in the Senate, and is working his butt off to promote Democrats this year. I would go with either one, but Walz has the personality and achievement to carry the day, and he is not in the Senate. Yeah, know the Arizona governor is a Democrat and would appoint a Dem to replace Kelly, but let's keep Mark in the Senate.....

Decent and competent, what’s not to love. The 100% opposite of any republican

Yes, I recently became more aware of his stances and style. I like him a lot. Kamala has a big pool of talented dems.

I'm a little awed by how deep the Democratic bench is, and some of them are only in their 20s or early 30s. By contrast the Republicans . . . I can't even bear to look.

I live in Minnesota, so I know first hand the charm, skills, and savvy of Tim Walz at the roll-up-your-sleeves-and-get-to-work level. To be honest - and selfish - part of me hopes he doesn't get the nod for Kamala's VP. I want to keep him for Minnesota.

And, it being a sort of "forest and trees" issue for me, I'm not sure how well known he is on the national stage. That made me wonder how much he'd be able to boost the Democratic ticket. But I'm getting schooled on that! (In the best way!)

So... putting selfishness aside, I'd love for Minnesota to share him with the world!

He's the kind of guy it doesn't take long to figure out you like him.

Exactamente. And when he speaks of “others” in reference to the MAGA coalition, he speaks of them as neighbors, fam members, etc. Because he believes in bi-partisanship solutions and actually thrives in talking to constituents who differ greatly in their thinking. At the same time, he never skirts the necessary punch of calling out any lie or hollow promise of any political hack that hurts the American people.

Great choice if that is the way Kamala goes.

Salud, TC.

After your great introduction to Tim Walz, TC, I looked up he and his wife and read more about him. I checked out all the photos of him and family. He’s got it, and in such a wonderful way. Thanks!

Walz is relatable, smart, compassionate, sane, and can think on his feet. I like him.

He is the perfect choice. I felt it in my bones when I first started reading about him. Prayers that he is the Democratic VP candidate! If he is, we'll smash it!!

I like Walz a lot. He's very

down to earth and doesn't

feel like the pressure cooker

backroom politician we see

so much of. He's a darn good

Governor and has done a lot

for the people of Minnesota.

Kelly is fine, but he's a lock in

the senate for another 4

years(?)I think and who would

take his place? With Kari Lake

in the run, we need Kelly to

stay. Beshear is the most

likely, cause PA is a tricky

state this year. It's a

must win for Kamala.

Thank you as well, Victoria, certainly Beshear PA is another good pick.

Really appreciated this article. I have not been so familiar with Tim Walz, but what he and the state legislature have accomplished is not just stunning, it is a model for what to do when the opportunity presents itself.

"The haves and have-nots in the school lunchroom is not a necessary thing,” Walz said when Republicans criticized the refusal to means test. “Just feed our children.”

As this suggests, Walz has a gift for the folksy framing of progressive policy as common-sense decency. "

Unfortunately the gop is always busy building walls and shoving wedges between people. The gop seems committed to cruelty first when what is required from everyone-legislators to lobbyists, tech execs to local librarians, the far cats at the top grabbing for more and the immigrant struggling for a better future -- is COMMON SENSE DECENCY. If we can all work together with that goal and dream as a guide we might just defend democracy and build it up in all parts of our society.

I support Walz who is a very good verbal responder, quick, articulate & above all smart and on-message. Kamala can stay above from the Trump Trash fray.
