The Secret Service and your local law enforcement, too. My sister just sent me the book, "The Highest Law in the Land: How the Power of Sheriffs Threatens Democracy" by Jessica Pisko. My experience with our local sheriff department's trumpism is terrifying.

I have yet to run across a Sheriff's Department that isn't a major contributor to the problems. The LA sheriff dept has gangs as bad as the ones in the community. I think the problem comes from the fact the first assignment for most new hires is to become guards in the local prison system, an assignment that can last years before they get "on the street." By then most of them are as bad as the people they were in charge of.
I remember in the '90's someone was shooting out the rear windows of police cars from overpasses. The cops couldn't locate any projectiles though. Must have been a month or more. All LA cops were nervous. Just what we needed, a bunch of nervous cops. Turned out that the windows were shot out using glass marbles and a slingshot. Yeesh, weird time in the city of the angels.
I can think of two, but they're both in Massachusetts and they're both Democrats so they don't really count. Donna Buckley is sheriff in Barnstable County (basically Cape Cod), and my sheriff here in Dukes County/Martha's Vineyard is Bob Ogden. I campaigned for him.
Tom, I was cleaning the garage and I came across a primary source from Guadalcanal. First hand accounts from Marines that fought there put out in 1943.
I'll DM you a couple of pictures. Maybe you've seen it.
