I’ve been getting my TCinLA fix by reading his comments on Heather Cox Richardson’s substack. Haha.

Sorry, your computer has required new parts, but you are whole, Tom, and will return to us at full blast and even wiser. Thank you for letting us know the score.

Wishing you a fine weekend, more rest, good cheer and a few gentle hugs, Fern.

I was all set to send you a personal note to the effect of "your hard drive fan sure picked the worst possible fucking time to break down," but, as usual, you've beaten me to it...

quite a week indeed.

quite an indictment.

As Gilda said, "It's always something."

The good news is it dragged me kicking and screaming into the third decade of the 21st century, since I was finally forced to learn to use my phone, which turned out to be disturbingly easy.

My car died in early April and I chose to stop putting money into that vehicle made in 2000. The silver lining of that particular cloud is that I am walking more and enjoying using the bus. I believe that we can often get a good result out of a "bad" situation. The good result of your computer repairs is learning how to use your phone!

Nonetheless, I am really looking forward to that computer being up and running again so I can read what you have to say. And now you have that new skill on your phone! Que bueno!

I was happy to see you on HCR so knew you were ok. It is not a bad thing to have time to think once in awhile in our world. Perspective.

If you’re upset by the timing, which I would certainly understatement be, welcome to the wonderful-terrible ease of the cell phone. Along with driving a Tesla another oxymoronic

thing I’ve become dependent on

I often wonder, who’s in charge?

But reading your posts there’s no question that you reign.

I wait for your take with delight

whenever you renter the arena

as the orange man rapidly deflates.

As Robert Hubbell said: “Wow!” That indictment is devastating in the picture it paints of the carelessness with which our classified intelligence information was treated by an individual who had absolutely no business having access to anything other an outhouse on the grounds of a prison work farm in the swamps of Louisiana. The good thing is, it seems Mr. Smith went to Washington and got the goods. Looking forward to the trial.

Carelessness and impunity! I can't imagine what bad guys out there have this stuff in their dirty little hands by now - and how much were these secrets sold for?

In case you missed it last week, here again is my response to your new book, "Clean Sweep":

"Yes, Tom, a critical time for our democracy, and democracy around the world. Speaking of critical times for democracy, a friend of mine borrowed my brand new copy of your book, "Clean Sweep" and cannot put it down. His father served in the Army Air Corps during World War II and had told him harrowing stories about the planes and the battles. Reading your book - and the specifics of why it was so harrowing - has given him a renewed sense of awe of what his father endured and accomplished. And how close the world came to losing democracy. Thank You. (And, as always, Thank You to my sister who sends me the best books!)."
