And God bless you. I love this and I am going to send it to my folks on my forward list. I'm writing this listening to fireworks going off. Your music made a fraught July 4 BEAUTIFUL. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Ray Charles for sure. I'd add Woody Guthrie's "This Land Is Your Land" (with all the verses, please) and Phil Ochs's "Power and the Glory." I'll pass on both Kate Smith and "God Bless America."
Damn fireworks! I spend every July 4th and New Year’s Eve helping my dogs and cats get through the terror of blasts so loud they rock my windows. And most of the people setting them off don’t even have a clue why
Agreed. Both songs were written by Irving Berlin, who, like me immigrated to this Country. Both of us love America (I'm still alive, Irving is dead) He expressed his love by writing beautiful patriotic songs, I by extolling the Constitution. Something we all need to do frequently these days with the majority of the Supreme Court drawing further and further away from upholding the Constitution, thus retracting their oaths of office.
And in addition to all of the above and below, Neil Young's Rockin' in A Free World. I was banging it out on my guitar last night to drown out the fireworks.
Thank you. Just got back from watching the fireworks on the Las Vegas Strip—absolutely over the top and fabulous! I can't help but wonder what next year will bring.
"America the Beautiful" should be the national anthem, in my opinion. "The Star Spangled Banner" is cringeworthy musically. All the neighborhood dogs can now come out of their hiding places as we were under siege with fireworks and firecrackers last night comparable to the Brits' fire power at Somme.
Thank you for sharing these. We need this inspiration more than ever.

Thanks, Tom. those were great. I had to listen to Ray a couple of times. Because, well, Ray.

Agreed.
I had tears in my eyes tonight watching the fireworks...ready to work hard this summer and fall.

Wonderful, yes, perfect! A friend suggests this be added: https://youtu.be/LHCQGQdeL68
Always have loved Robeson's voice. Thank you.
Thanks. That was fun.

I'm more in the mood for this one by Paul Simon, an American Tune:

This is one of my top favorite songs. I'm always in the mood for it. Thanks Paul Donahue!
During the early days of the pandemic, Dave Matthews performed this song from his bathroom perch. Tears.

In my humble but well informed opinion, the best renditions of each song. Thanks!
Thank you for sharing these. I really needed these tonight. It’s been a hard day.
Those are great ones, for sure. Yes, we need them seriously! Thank you Tom.

Those two, and Jimi Hendrix's presentation of The Star Spangled Banner live at Woodstock.
Those are good, but this one rock's...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c5BL4RNFr58

Listen to Jimi's version, it puts the tune in a different perspective.
