TCinLA once again tied up his latest article with a barbed zinger:

“A.G. Sulzberger is proving every day that the private ownership of a public service like the New York Times makes as much sense as allowing one of the billionaire class to own the local water supply.”

Brilliant man, you've hit the bullseye with the precision of a drunken darts champion at closing time! A.G. Sulzberger and his ilk clutching at the reins of the New York Times is a monstrous joke played out in real time on the grand stage of public discourse. It's akin to letting a fox in a diamond-studded collar guard the henhouse.

The very notion that these gilded barons of capital can own something as vital as the newspaper of record—where truth should be as free as the air we breathe—is as ludicrous as entrusting the community's water supply to some billionaire's whimsy.

The stakes are astronomically high, and the implications? Downright apocalyptic. Sulzberger's daily demonstration of this folly is a clarion call to the masses that the ramparts of our public institutions are being manned by those who may just as soon sell the bricks as defend the fortress.

For the love of God, never stop firing those flares; the night is dark, but the fight is far from over!

A.G. is obviously from the shallower end of the family DNA pool.

I have heard for years that Rupert wants to buy it, things can always get worse…

The East Coast media has reported a Wildwood, NJ crowd of 80K to 100K even though the venue holds only 20K, and aerial photos show it less than half filled. And people were walking away after half an hour, probably at the point where Trump's brain farts began. The reporters are cutting and pasting from the RNC's campaign handouts, it seems. You are so spot on in your criticisms of the MSM, including your mentions of excesses among the left leaning.

I know this is some serious and horrific shot being projectile vomited from mouthing a crazy man running for president… but you did make me laugh with

“Not to be pedantic, but the fictional Mr. Lecter is still fictionally alive, and not fictionally dead. He has accomplished this despite, you know, not being a real person.”

Any sane person is left speechless by this display of absolute demented lunacy, reported as though valid. I skip large swaths of the NYT. I should get a refund!

You know - I dont think anyone in these "crowds" actually listens & HEARS what hes saying - or understands how little sense hes making!

It would take brains on the part of his listeners to actually understand what he says, and that equipment is in short supply in Flyover Loserville.

Linda, I decided to say by-bye finally to it on a day when guess who’s mug appeared as the headline curdling the milk in my morning tea.

Maybe it was an "episode" but at the very least it was nothing but nonsense, scary nonsense at that. He sounds like the dementia is really getting worse. Now he can't discern a character in a movie from real life. That's serious.

As for the NYT, I canceled my subscription a long time ago. I consider it on par with a tabloid these days.

This was no isolated or temporary 'episode" like a McConnel " brain freeze". This is SOP for TFG. It is why they can so perfectly parody him on SNL!

If I did not deeply and even viscerally dislike him and fear his destructive wielding of power ( not to mention his total lack of character and empathy), I could almost feel sad to be watching another human dissembling in public. But in his case he is too dangerously toxic for such a feeling from me.

Add to this display a video I saw today on YT where Trump was so upset that Robert Kennedy Jr. has been taking votes from him that he inadvertently endorsed Joe Biden on Truth Social as being better to vote for than RFK Jr. You can't make this stuff up.....

I have to respectfully disagree. Trump did not have an episode. He IS AN episode!

I can't believe this guy is polling as high as he is.

Even for the NYTimes, this is appalling. Do they think they're doing their readers or the country a favor by making Trump look good, or at least rational?

I do disagree with your point at the end, characterizing media like the NYTimes as a "public service." PBS, NPR, and the various public radio and TV stations across the country are (sort of) public services. The major news outlets aren't. They're owned by individuals, families, and/or corporations. And as A. J. Liebling so famously said, "Freedom of the press is limited to those who own one."

LBJ wanted an unbiased public news outlet and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting did a great job until the Repub Congress targeted them and killed enough funding so that they are now about as useless as commercial outlets. Like the USPS, the Repub oligarchs can’t wait to take over and pretend to do the job. For shareholders, that is…

It isn't "normal" or "business as usual," or at least it didn't used to be, to have a psychopath running for public office and especially for a second attempt at the highest political office in the country, but the drivel flowing from NYT has made it clear that old A.G. is working for the fascists pigs who manipulate the Empire's insane narrative about what will make America Great Again. There's nothing normal in any of this lunacy and if The Golden Golem of Greatness, as James Howard Kunstler once called Herr Fat Ass, gets back into office, the upshot will be like something you have never seen before, something you will not like, and something very abnormal indeed that will make prospect of buying some waterfront property in Gaza from Jared Kushner seem like a good idea.

Yep, that's going to get the Republi can't party a landslide victory assuming all the voting public are morons. It's hard to believe the press, or any other media would cover this imbecile.

Why is anyone surprised? Trump talks only BS everytime he opens his lying mouth. It has been this way since he mainstreamed in into the group that was once called the Republican Party that he and the other crazies turned into MAGA.

Just the latest example of NYT lunacy. Our friend James Fallows has been documenting the decline of the Times, if not all of the MSM, for a couple decades now. It’s quite amazing.
