Donald Trump has only visited one battleground state since Super Tuesday because he can’t afford to campaign.
“Sleepy” Joe Biden - according to the Trumpers - has been to every top battleground state but one since Super Tuesday, while also pushing negotiators toward a Gaza ceasefire, and pusing congressional leaders to the “minibus” bill being voted on today, in addition to all his other presidential duties. Pretty good for someone the GOP and the mainstream media claim is “too old” to be president.
Trump has held one rally in a battleground state since Super Tuesday, and moved another to Ohio, to save on costs. Proving his real priorities, he has also played in two golf tournaments at his Palm Beach golf club, among other activities such as lunches with potential campaign donors.
Aside from ongoing court appearances that he has chosen to make, Trump has remained almost entirely at Mar-a-Lado, trying to drum up lagging campaign fundraising and find a way to pay the $454 million bond he’s been ordered to pay.
So far this year, Trump has been outraised every month since January by President Biden by nearly 4 to 1. In addition, Biden has been much more active than Trump, crisscrossing the country, announcing everything from infrastructure investments to new manufacturing projects to student loan debt relief. He has also been holding campaign events in states such as Georgia, Texas, Michigan, and Pennsylvania.
In contrast, Trump barely campaigns one day a week. He usually holds events on Saturdays, in venues that have gotten smaller and cheaper. Gone are the days when Trump would spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on a big rally. His recent speech in Ohio was not even a campaign event.
The truth is, Trump can’t afford to campaign. They tried to end the Republican primary early because they didn’t have the funds for a contested primary.
Fox News reported: that the Trump campaign and Trump Save America Joint Fundraising Committee brought in $20.33 million last month. This is a massive increase from prior months. In January, Trump brought in $13.875 million. In December, Trump raked in nearly $10.5 million.
At the end of February, Trump had a combined $41.9 million cash-on-hand, less than one-third as much cash as President Biden.
When he’s not hiding out in Mar-a-Lago, he’s calling in to white supremacist radio to traffic in antisemitic tropes or saying there’ll be a ‘bloodbath’ if he loses.
Trump fatigue is a real problem in the Republican Party. He’s running unopposed, but still losing 20%-30% of Republican primary voters. The fundraising numbers suggest that while his supporters will still show up and vote for him in the fall, many of them are not enthused enough to financially support him.
Without free media coverage to make up the difference, Trump may not be able to organize and get Republican voters to the polls in the fall, after turning the RNC into a legal defense fund for his four ongoing cases..
Joe Biden makes news every day, while Trump is holed up in Mar-a-Lado trying to figure out how he is going to pay a $454 million bond.
As Simon Rosenberg puts it, “I’d rather be us.”
But only if we keep running like our lives depend on it. Because they do.

Leave it to TC to pull together such encouraging details! So much free publicity for Trump but not much campaigning in the (loads of) flesh. If the persuadables, got wind of this. . .
Tffg attacked Joe in 2020 for being sensible about Covid and not campaigning out and about. What a contrast with Trump, staying in to save money and have time for golf and donor lunches.
Yes, the airport in Vandalia, Ohio (Cox Municipal Airport) is small and out-of-the-way.
