Last night’s special election in NY-19 congressional district to fill seat vacated by Rep. Antonio Delgado (D), who became Lieutenant Governor is important in many interesting ways. In itself the race is almost meaningless, since the term is only for the rest of this year, which comes out to about 8-10 weeks in session.
What the NY-19 shows is that Democrats can win if they work their hurts off to get out the vote. Never take anything for granted. People are rightly horrified by the high court overturning Roe v Wade and throwing out precedents left and right. We have to continue to hammer home that democracy is under attack.
I’m really excited to read your today’s report, because I was once in Marc Molinaro’s area of NY and met him, heard him speak in churches and fire halls on several occasions. He always stood out. His FB presence, press - even his rise in politics from a teen! - made me think of him as a very, very hard person to beat in any election. And in an area north of NY with LOTS of Republicans and MAGAthugs who menaced voting areas in 2018 and 20. Thank you TC for waving a couple of BLUE pom poms and urging me not to lose hope. I’ve got to get going… have some postcards to write for Field Team Six and money to raise for my The States Project Giving Circle: Tending to Democracy. ❤️🤍💙
