Give President Biden credit where credit is due.
He didn’t back down. Not one inch.
He presented a long list of programs and policies, that in a sane political situation would have no difficulty commanding large, bipartisan, majorities.
Every single one of them pushes values Republicans used to claim they believed in, used to claim they were animated by to truly make America great.
Not one of these items will pass the House and be signed as a bill by President Biden between now and January 2025.
But every time the Republicans kill one of these popular programs, that’s another anvil that can be tied around their necks.
Each one of them is another presidential speech to the nation between now and then about why we can’t hve good things tht the American people like.
Each one of them is a plank in the 2024 Democratic platform, a point in the 2024 Democratic campaign.
An attack ad against every Republican who voted no.
Ladies and Gentlemen: presenting the State of the Union, 2023, aka the 2024 Democratic campaign.
The Republicans are toast.
They just don’t realize it yet.

Here's Josh Mrshall's comment at TPM - with which I totally agree:
"He’s doing considerably better than I’d anticipated. I didn’t have low expectations. I just find most of these speeches by most Presidents kind of meh. He’s enjoying himself and skewering the opposition with a bear hug."
Another good JM comment at TPM:
My God, it's just poetry, watching Biden tussle with Marje Greene as she does her best imitation of that famous Real Housewives of New Jersey scene.
