Thank you! What really irked me (among many other things about DebateGate) was that suddenly everyone was a neurologist, in addition to being a respected pundit - neither of which was the case.

MonaLott, but they play one on tv, just like CFDT

NBC’s cash cow was the Apprentice! They provided the stage for the amoral orange creature to gain an audience! Never understood how someone who bankrupted 4 major gambling casinos was considered a good judge of talent! Never understood how someone who was an unsuccessful snake oil sales creature; vodka, airline shuttle to name two and all the other scams he foisted on the suckers who bought into his schemes was regarded as a successful businessman!

NBC = nothing but con artists!

Louis, it was a scripted show. The “Realty TV” moniker is just that, a signal that its all camera angles, contrived drama and vapid backbiting from the junior high school cool kids lunch table

Expand full comment

Scripted just as all of the other "reality" shows have been. A well-respected local professor of geology at a California state university was invited, several years ago, to participate in one of the earlier 'desert island' shows. He bailed after one or two shows (I forget exactly but very early) were filmed and publicly explained his reason was because it was all fake and never a test of "contestants" abilities.

Bullshit backbiting drama as entertainment

Bad writing too

Trump was regarded as a willing tool and useful prop; nothing more. Everything was planned and scripted. "Reality TV" is, generally, anything but.

Thank you! I’ve defended and supported main stream media, and supported independent journalists who actually investigate and share facts. But this whole shameful and destructive response to one off-night for Joe Biden has changed my position.

Fact: I would take Joe Biden on his worst day before Trump on his best day. And that’s the choice … like it or not, that is the reality we all live in. Biden is older and slower than he was four years ago. We all are. That does not make him feeble or incompetent. Democrats need to grow a spine and get behind our guy.

Considering the average age of Congress & the Senate - I would think "ageism" would be the last subject that any of them would bring up. (BOTH parties). Good for AOC!

Brilliant work TC, especially the quotes from Marshall and Kurz. That, combined with the comments from AOC and the Black Caucus, along with Tim Snyder's column today are the most positive and hopeful things I've read in a while. As with poll results, I'm convinced that there are far more of us who support the President than don't and who will vote to keep the felonious failed insurrectionist out of the White House rather than sit on their hands and pout. I'd feel even better if I knew there was a Plan B in place in the event that God Almighty does offer a comment at some point, but you're right about the recovery being well under way.

The vice president is plan B, in the event that there is a comment offered by the GA...

Expand full comment

Yeah, you're right, it's just not a very exciting plan but that could be because she's not gotten a fair shake from the press, possibly even moreso than Biden.

The media finally started covering Project 2025 because of a push from the bottom, and also because two celebrities called it out in now-viral videos. Looks we'll need to push on the Epstein papers (Trump is all over them and it is BAD) as well, since the big guys are trying to la-la-la it away.

I am exasperated that tfg’s assault description of adolescents is not plastered everywhere by everyone.

I've seen one random tweet about the Epstein thing, but nothing in any of my regular news feeds. The football quarterback guy makes a passing reference to Epstein and Jimmy Kimmel and it blows up everywhere; orange dumpster fire fascist guy is actually mentioned and no one says a word. The press doesn't want to bury trump so they can sell clicks.

Thing is, Biden doesn’t make threats to journalists and their families. Ordinary people who aren’t even in politics are careful not to post anything that could come back on them if Mr. Wrecking Ball were to win.

I want every pro-Biden voter to put their cards on the table. No hiding. It’s all our lives and livelihoods that are at stake.

We have the numbers and the power. Let’s stick together and speak up.

Yes, we've all got to stop being cowed by Trump and his magas. We're better than that. We really are. We're not like the jello-spined GOP. We can have conflicts within our party and still unify at the point where it really matters. Trump's been allowed to bury the norms that have kept him out of polite society all his life. He's gotten away with spitting in the eyes of the magas as he did at the Vegas rally when he told them he didn't care about them, that he only wanted their votes. The magas are masochistic malcontented codependents in a very sick relationship with Trump. We outnumber them, even in our fractious, noisy spats, and must show up at the polls.

It's good to remember there are at least half a dozen nation leaders who are in Joe's age range, including the Vatican's recently ill Pope who just poopcanned a conservative archbishop for schism. Additionally, the elders of Israel were older men; "heads of families (Exodus 12:21); able men of strong moral character; men who feared God; men of truth and integrity (Exodus 18:20-21); and men full of the Holy Spirit (Numbers 11:16-17); capable men of wisdom, discernment, and experience—impartial and courageous men who would .." (Throwing in something for those with Bibles.)

My second comment and a confession: last night, I went on the offense with MSNBC. Every time an anchor brought up the "Biden is too old and should go" topic, either themselves or via someone they had invited to their show for that purpose, I emailed MSNBC with a complaint and turned off my TV. I did this several times until Joy Reid went on a joyous rant about all those naysayers, at which time I wrote again about how GREAT she was. Then Jen Psaki pronounced a bald-faced lie (that all the Congress people who went home were told by their constituents that "Biden is too old and should go") and I emailed again that MSNBC needed to do some house cleaning and get rid of anchors who lied. I guess I sent out half a dozen emails last night and I intend to keep this barrage up until the storm actually does pass...as it will eventually. Having already canceled WaPo and NYT, I don't hear much from them unless one of these anchors quotes them, at which time, I will return to my irritating little emails. There. I feel better. I confessed.

Given Psaki's background, her participation with this crap, I suppose to "make her bones" and prove she's "one of the boys" is really despicable. She knows the opposite. I've canceled watching her.

Josh Marshall is great, and he has a free podcast called The Josh Marshall Podcast, with Kate Riga. I like how they try to keep their emotions in check, and also they can have a bit of a black humor when things are looking bleak. Keeping a perspective and having a sense of humor is, in my opinion, good for one’s mental health.

If the projection of MAGA holds true, it is Donald who is on his last legs, not Joe. The Joe will almost certainly outlive him. The performance enhancing drugs Donald is taking for his public appearances are terrible for his overall health and over time will accelerate his aging.

All good news, and now for a warning about Punchy Sulzberger--who I call that because his grandfather was Punch, and his father hated being called "Pinch" because it was just a corruption of his father's nickname, but the current generation is very punchy.

The Bezos Bugle's Erik Wemple, who often is a good press critic, got an interview with Joker Kahn, Punchy's executive editor, and rolled over and played dead for him. Joker doesn't get it. At all. And being named Kahn, he really should, because he is the grandson of Lithuanian Jewish immigrants and the son of a successful businessman, and he ought to know that that kind of background didn't save Jews from Hitler, either.

YES. The assumption that a Parkinson's specialist must only walk through the door to see Biden struck me immediately. There are around 2000 people working in or around the Whitehouse.
