Congratulations Tom!! My audible copy that I had preordered downloaded on the 11th. I am just in the first chapter and it’s great so far. I am not commuting right now and won’t be for around 6 weeks while recovering from my knee replacement I had yesterday. Since I will be off work and won’t have the long drive when I usually listen to books, I plan on listening to it on my phone or kindle with free time I don’t usually have. Great writing Tom as always!
Karen RN, I missed reading your news. How are you feeling? Knees...they are getting back for how hard I worked them doing some of the things I loved. Wishing you a smooth and good recovery. Salud!
Same here Fern. I beat mine up running for 35 years. I loved to run and did a lot of races, half marathons and ran a full marathon in Dublin, Ireland in 1998. The ironic thing was all of the proceeds from that marathon went to the Arthritis Foundation. Thank you for your kind words. I’m looking forward to walking and hiking again, but won’t be doing any running.😿
Thank you. My cats are quite mad at me though because they can’t sit on my lap. And thanks for the link you put in to buy your book. My niece is going to buy it for her Dad for Father’s Day.
Thank you, Karen, for sharing your pleasure in running. My father was a runner, too. For me, it was fencing, dancing, gardening -- and as infrequently as possible -- on them to scrub the floors. Cheers!
A correction Fern. All of the proceeds from the marathon didn’t go to the Arthritis Foundation. I was part of a large group of people that raised money for the foundation by running the marathon. I’m a little fuzzy today.
Have had both a total and a partial knee replacement. After the first-the total I spent the first month basically exercising and working to get full extension. I was cross country skiing within two months. It is now one of the pain free joints in my body. 😮
That’s great to hear Hale. I have my eyes set on that goal. Thank you for sharing your outcome. It’s what I need to hear during this more challenging time of recovery.
Thank you Hale. I think I’m moving along pretty well. My Physical Therapist was happy with my one week post op progress today, and then proceeded to beat the crap out of me. Well at least that’s how I felt after. Elevation and ice packs are my friends this evening. 😹
let me know how that works out, Karen. I've needed one (and have successfully resisted it, to my own detriment) for nine years or so. thing is, I might be the world's worst candidate for orthopedic surgery.
I will David. The surgery went well. I would have gone home the same day but had some issues with pain control so spent the night. I’m doing okay now with the right pain meds on board. I’ve started some exercises and start physical therapy tomorrow. If you need it done, better now than later.
You can get Home Health after a joint replacement for nursing care and Physical Therapy. They also expect that you use a Walker for the first several weeks post op and then a cane if needed for a few weeks. I’m not trying to convince or pressure you David, just letting you know there are resources available if you decided to do it.
Thank you, Dave. Truth: I knew it was wrong, but my brain fart led me to believe I had spelled it correctly. Just the way things are...despite the fact that I taught English most of my life. (I corrected my post, thanks to you.)
Congrats. Ordering tomorrow. Very interested in this; both of my then young parents, one English, one American, had roles in the battle to first defend against, later to defeat the Luftwaffe. Really looking forward to reading this. Again, congratulations…..what a year you’ve had…..
Wonderful news, great reviews! I keep meaning to get one for my son who is fascinated by all things aviation so I guess I'd better get my git in gear! So, so pleased for you!
CLEAN SWEEP
Bravo Cleaver!

Good for you and the group, Karen. I've known arthritis for a long time, along with how many -- 350 million of us. Cursing is on my breath.
Mine too Fern. I love that you did “fencing, dancing and gardening”. A great combination. Not so much the floor scrubbing though. Cheers!
From one who knows, Karen make sure you really do the max pt you can. Be well.
Thank you Hale. I’m starting PT tomorrow and plan on doing as much as I can. Did yours go well?

Karen, I hope you have a swift recovery. I'm right behind you!
Thank you Wendy.
How are you doing with your new knee. Hope it is going well. 🤗

I know, I know. but I have these two dogs and a bunch of very long hallways and shitty balance on the best day. oy.
I understand, sometimes it’s not so much the surgery, but the barriers to a smooth recovery.
EXACTLY.

Congrats! Great to hear good news about someone who has made a difference in my life via his writing. What a talent!
Best news of the last few days, Tom. My Kindle copy arrived today.

Soar.

We all get by with a little help from our friends.
THIS old English teacher has also forgotten how to spell from just about the beginning of his eighth decade.
is it something in the water? or is it what younger folks like to call "normal attrition?"
Being 83 I call it "a Senior moment"
