According to an NBC News Poll released on Monday, August 22, the Number One Issue in the minds of American voters is....
(Drumroll)
Threats. To. Democracy.
That’s it! Number 1 issue!
THREATS. TO. DEMOCRACY.
According to the poll, 21% of voters consider the threat by the Republican Party to democracy in America is Issue Number One.
“The Cost of Living” follows at 16% - FIVE POINTS DOWN.
“Jobs and the Economy” is number three, at 14%.
THIS. IS. HUGE.
Also, 57% of voters want the January 6 Special Committee to continue its invetstigations in to Trump’s attempt to overthrow the government.
BUT - BUT - BUT
The same poll finds Republicans leading Democrats 47-45 as the preferred party to control Congress.
And 68% of Republicans say they are enthusiastic about voting in November while 66% of Democrats say they are enthusiastic about voting.
These last two points are within the poll’s margin of error, which means there is a tie regarding who should control Congress and enthusiasm for voting.
Things are at the point now where last night two different talking heads on different shows brought up the possibility that things were going to be better for Democrats and much worse for Republicans than expected, due to the month of Good News the Biden Administration has lucked into.
Yes, those tailwinds I thought I detected are blowing stronger, but let’s just keep in mind that the model for this election is a competitive America’s Cup race, with the two competitors looking for every bit of wind they can find, with the winner’s bow crossing the line six feet in front of the looser.
If you’re into horse racing, we’re watching the final turn to the straightaway, with the plucky little horse that was running in the back of the middle of the pack starting to stretch her legs and now she’s breathing hot and heavy on the leader as the finish line comes closer and closer.
If you want a football metaphor, it’s fourth quarter, third and down, with the clock at ten seconds and the team that’s down three needs to throw a pass to that wide receiver who’s not quite as tall as the defensive back who’s covering him.
Normally, those are exactly the kind of competitions I most like watching. But not this time.
In other words, there is a helluva lot of work to be done in the next 75 days before the election.
Enthusiasm of those doing the work is going to count.
It’s going to matter.
It’s going to decide who wins.

HORSE RACE'! No siree, TC. This is a race between an old, dumb, ANTI-DEMOCRACY elephant that lost its mind many decades ago. Let's look again! How is the reborn Democrat Donkey doing?
'Democrats now lead Republicans in the generic congressional ballot average by half a percentage point and are favored 61 percent to 39 percent to hold the Senate. In critical Senate battlegrounds such as Pennsylvania, Arizona and Ohio, the Democratic candidates hold leads ranging from 5 points to over 10 points. And in a further blow to the GOP, the Republicans’ Senate campaign committee just slashed $5 million from their Pennsylvania budget, as well as $2 million out of Wisconsin and Arizona.'

'A string of big wins for the Biden administration has shifted the pendulum, even if the president’s approval rating continues to hover around 40 percent. From killing al Qaeda’s leader, Ayman al-Zawahiri, to securing legislative wins such as the Inflation Reduction Act, the PACT Act and the CHIPS bill, to falling prices and rising job growth numbers, President Biden has had a good run.' Last crucial words from our leader:
'... there is a helluva lot of work to be done in the next 75 days before the election.'
'Enthusiasm of those doing the work is going to count.'
'It’s going to matter.'
'It’s going to decide who wins.' (TC)
“Enthusiasm of those doing the work is going to count.”
I think back to the days leading up to Barack Obama’s showing in the 2008 general election. When he became President of the United States.
It WAS all about enthusiasm. Haven’t seen that since then.
Until now. Voting in FL primary just ended. Regardless of results, people at our watch party tonight have our eyes forward and we have not been this enthusiastic about our cause in many a moon.
