The title of TC's piece, THE NEW TRUMP LOYALTY TEST could be aptly extended with, ':INSIDE THE GOP'S INSANE ASSYLM.' If the Republican Party was sane, it would do exactly what the Party wants to do, which is to dump Trump, but they are nowhere without him -- and in hell with him. Have the Republicans not gotten what they deserve? THEY ARE SICK, SICK, SICK.

-And we are part of the citizens' Army, which is going BRING THESE SUCKERS DOWN, DOWN, DOWN.

(Thank you guy and gal Republicans for making it easier to do every damn day.)

One more thing...

'GOP still unsure if guy who likens himself to Hitler should be leader'

'WASHINGTON — At time of writing, one entire major political party was still unsure whether a man who compared himself to Hitler, but in a wistful, “if-only” sort of way, ought to be its standard-bearer. The alternative being considered was literally anyone else.'

“So you would think that this was a gimme. Suppose that you have to choose the figurehead for your political party, a person who could be president next and be endowed with huge, sobering amounts of power. And your options are: A guy who told the generals around him he wished they were more loyal, like Hitler’s generals (which is not even correct)! Who loves the idea of throwing himself a creepy military parade, like the dictators have! Who does not want his parade to feature wounded veterans because they are a category of people he disdains! Who is currently under several criminal investigations! And who definitely encouraged a mob to try to storm the seat of government to help keep him in power after he lost an election!'

“Or literally anyone else! Those are your options. That feels like maybe not so hard a choice? Potentially?”

'Republicans agreed, but at the time of writing, they had still not made the choice.' (August 10, 2022 at 7:00 a.m. EDT, Opinion by Alexandra Petri, WAPO)

Sums it up perfectly, Fern! TY

Thank you, Carol. Damnable as 'they' are, their obvious cruelty and ignorance can clarify our minds, prose and advocacy.

They just can't quit him, can they? I heard that there was supposed to be a dinner last night with 12 members of Congress in attendance. I immediately thought this sounded like their version of "The Last Supper" but with a bunch of seditionists gathered around, trying out various excuses and stories and shoring up their dear leader's case against the world. I hope reporters follow up on it, if it did, in fact occur. What an easy way to identify those complicit in the coup.

'Embattled former President Donald Trump is hosting a dozen of the most conservative House Republicans at his New Jersey golf club Tuesday night for a dinner meeting that's sure to touch on the recent FBI raid of Trump's home in Florida.'

'Republican Study Committee Chairman Rep. Jim Banks is leading the pilgrimage to Trump's Bedminster hideaway, according to Punchbowl News reporting that's since been confirmed by CBS News as "a solidarity moment for DJT with House's right flank."

'Banks' staff did not reply to requests for comment about the purpose of the pending visit. A spokeswoman for House Republican Whip and RSC member Steve Scalise told Insider that the Louisiana Republican would not be attending.'

'RSC member Randy Weber of Texas posted a photo of the group dinner, showing Banks seated next to Trump as the guests awaited a four-course meal of seared scallops with tartar sauce, Caesar salad, a surf-and-turf pairing of sirloin steak and crab cakes, and chocolate chip cookies and ice cream for dessert.' Did that whet you appetite?

David, I am very happy to see you. What's political extremism and violence without a sense of humor and some Ribeye? …cannot forget the advantage that you have with your new eyeglasses. Bon appetite, David!

“Republicans have never understood irony, since they lack self-awareness. And now they are screaming that the FBI must be destroyed.” Excellent pointing out that insight, TC.

The sheer irony of Repubs beating the drum of “de-fund the police” places the sticks in their hands and this time it’s de-fund federal police. That irony is not lost on those of us teeming with self-awareness. I’m marking that refrain from them now (especially from Rubio, Voldemort, and Desantis) as #1 reason to people to never trust a Republican, don’t vote for a Republican, and note their utter lack of ethics, disregard for rule of law, and deflection using their own past rhetoric.

Mainstream media won’t touch it….yet, but there’s a lot of speculation regarding Ivana’s casket. Which catapulted after the subpoena going after missing boxes of documents at Gordo Largo. I’ve thought about it and I have concluded that if Ivana’s ashes are safe and on a respectful resting place, then I think trump would have loaded up the casket which appeared to be almost too heavy for the beefy pallbearers to bear. Loaded it up with the one thing that has been most important to him yet always elusive because of his compulsive narcissistic gambler’s mentality. Documents? No. He would sell those given the chance. I speculate cold, hard cash. Packed tightly. Saved for a tsunami day of justice raining down upon him.

If there is one thing that has been taught during the past several years of trumpery and trumpetry, it’s consider conspiracy and identify it when it’s targeted to destroy the common good.

Nope, gold in the casket, not cash which loses purchasing value every day (as Americans of certain economic classes are experiencing every day). As for "Gordo Largo", love it!

Makes me think of this scene from the Jungle Book: The python Kaa has hypnotized all of Bandarlog (the monkeys) and is about to swallow them all. Mowgli saves himself, trapped in a cave with poisonous snakes, make friends with them by saying "we are of the same blood, you and me". - Yes, you can do it together! From my Swedish point of view, and a spectator of this mess, not "we".

The hole keeps getting deeper, and at this point it’s nearly impossible to see a way out, our only hope is to vote them all into irrelevance, and that is going to take a clarity that seems in short supply today. I would like to be far more optimistic than I truly feel.
