The big news today is that Joe Biden proposed two debates with Donald Trump on June 27 and September 10, and Trump accepted.
And, once again, most of the Press Corpse has its head up its ass on the topic (I know, I know, surprise surprise - NOT), spouting the delusion that debating Trump on the debate stage is something that should worry Biden.
Hah! The opposite is true!
The Model 2024 Trump should fear debating Biden. In fact, I’ll join the other knowledgeable observers who have already publicly stated their belief Trump won’t show up for the debate. Particularly not after he adds “convicted felon” to his resume of incompetent bullshit.
Everyone says debates are good for democracy. I’ll agree that debates that focus on the issues and allow voters to see the candidates and their positions are good for democracy. That’s something we haven’t seen since the Kennedy-Nixon debates.
What the presidential debates have become over the past 50 years is a shiny object to distract people for the actually-important things in the campaign. They are made-for-TV events where American democracy is treated like a primetime NFL game. Mr. and Mrs. American voter can lay back on their matching barcaloungers and pass the popcorn back and forth.
There are the pregame shows and the loud sports-event crowds and hype, tons and tons of hype. It’s surprising the candidates don’t walk on stage wearing boxer’s robes.
What has been missing is actual substance and a discussion of the issues between the candidates.
The debates as currently organized are useless as a tool to inform voters.
A 2019 study found that the debates had shockingly little impact on the outcome of a presidential election. But the mee-dee-yah! treats these non-events as vital, and even more absurdly, many of the over-educated, under-intelligent, otherwise-unemployable trust fund babies have swallowed the Trump-pushed bullshit that it is dangerous for Biden to debate Trump.
However, there is little in the way of facts to back up this claim.
I cheer the fact that Biden has effectively destroyed the irrelevant home of over-the-hill-political poobahs known as the Presidential Debate Commission, a necessary death too long in coming.
By taking the initiative and establishing the number of debates and their dates and format, Biden’s campaign scored several key victories. The debates will happen earlier. The Biden campaign (correctly) believes these debates need to be held earlier in the campaign schedule because people vote earlier, arguing that there is no point in holding debates after most Americans have already voted. Political scientists and experts have made this argument for the past 40 years. People should see the candidate before they vote, not after.
The Biden campaign's Big Win is that the debate setup will be more serious. There won’t be a loud audience in attendance. The debate will take place in a TV studio in Atlanta; we all know that without a crowd, Trump deflates, coming off as bored and disinterested.
The candidates’ microphones will also be cut if they don’t follow the debate rules. Given that Trump’s entire debate strategy is to bellow, bluster, and talk over everyone and everything, and t hat e can’t follow any rule longer than 20 seconds, he’ll likely spend half the debate unheard. Any debate that removes that ability to distract by Trump will benefit President Biden.
This debate structure, on the surface, favors President Biden, so why does the media think that debate is dangerous for the President?
Trump has been avoiding debates for years because he is undisciplined, reactive, impulsive, and can be easily thrown off of his game.
And all this was true before the emi-senescent 2024 Model Trump began showing voters what the 2024 version of his candidacy looks like. He cannot string five words together that make sene; he can’t string five words together, period, resorting to nonsense sounds emerging from that anus under his nose. At the New Jersey hatealong, Trump continued to make mental mistakes like confusing Jimmy Carter and Jimmy Conners; his performance was so bad that overhead photos showed half the crowd had packed up and was gone by mid-rant.
Anyone who thinks that this 2024 version of Trump is anything close to the person who debated Hillary Clinton in 2016 has not been paying attention.
With any luck, Biden can needle him about his lifelong loserness - the bankruptcies, the loss of most of his father’s inheritance due to his incompetence, and finish off with the new status: convicted felon. Trump will start melting down in public and by the end with any luck he might just bring on that much-longed-for massive fatal myocardial infarction, in front of 70 million viewers, and really Make America Truly Great Again.
And the most amazed of all the viewers will be the Press Corpse.

"Trump will start melting down in public and by the end with any luck he might just bring on that much-longed-for massive fatal myocardial infarction, in front of 70 million viewers, and really Make America Truly Great Again." Thank you for this, Tom, the biggest laugh I've had in weeks. The only trumpster debate I remember was when he stalked Hillary Clinton, pacing back and forth behind her, like the psychopath he is. The "supposed to be" facilitator, did nothing. Had I been Hillary or that wimpy facilitator I'd have loudly and clearly told the trumpster to sit and keep his mouth shut, or he'd be removed from he stage. Biden will not allow such childish demonstrations. That facilitator, whoever he was got fired soon afterwards but for different reason.
I'd love to see that ending!
