Perhaps they should watch the last few minutes of Tora!Tora!Tora! By overturning Roe vs. Wade, they have, as the Yamamoto charcter states, "awakened a sleeping giant and filled her with a terrible resolve." Women I thought were dutiful conservative "helpmates" have suddenly decided that all these conservative policies are bullshit, and they are ferociously mad.

Still they won’t relent. We will need Ike or his spirit.

The current crop of Reps who are supposedly what passes for Republican these days, would never admit Ike into their ranks at all. To them, Ike is a raging liberal.

These are cynical creatures who are venal, not terribly bright and have certainly not studied history in any depth at all.

They are, in short, 'players'. Players of the worst sort who use any handy camoflage, be it Evangelism, patriotism, "concern for the unborn" or whatever they think will gain them a few inches to further their own personal interests and in so doing also further the interests of the fascists at large who are trying their damndest to tear down everything that has been achieved by this country.

Biden is the Commander in Chief of the nation's armed forces and should put in motion a concerted effort to arrest all the traitors in congress as well as the known architects of sedition doing their dirty deeds on the margins with Stalin's "Ni Shagu Nazad" policy in force until they're all held accountable for treason. I realize that's a quixotic statement, but it feels so good just to entertain the possibility . . .

as much as I share the feeling (AND the pure hatred), it's NOT a good precedent; it reminds me too much of the way things operate in places we wouldn't wanna live in.

I’m going to fall back on my “go to”: a shot of whiskey and a muttered “these fucking people” (abbreviated TFP) frequently.

What is wrong with Cannon? Does anybody know her back story? She's leaving a trail of blatant bias and doesn't seem to care. You'd think she would at least try to do something that wouldn't be so obvious.

Apparently, she's betting on the defendant and is willing to put her finger on the scale and her job on the line to get him across the goalpost. She appears to be angling for a SCOTUS nomination.

If Trump wins the presidency maybe there won't be a SCOTUS. Why would he need one? Trump will become the law.

Thank you, another more on target way of saying what I have been saying with “they will stop at nothing.” Stalin had such an unambiguous way of “dictating.” I was beyond stupid when I was so relieved when Biden won and chump was no longer behind the presidential podium. Then McCarthy decided to become a traitor to his party, the country and all of us. I hope he pays for breathing life back into the cult of chaos. It could have been made ashamed of the Jan 6 debacle, the perps punished, the racists made wrong again; a modicum of cooperation with sanity would have served the country. Of all the cretin traitors, I hope he pays the price.

As it is, we all will. The “Not one step back” crowd is all in on destroying our democracy. They will give it their best shot on Nov. 17.

Of course, that should be the Democratic policy. Actually, I tend to like the scene in Lawrence of Arabia when Peter O'Toole, with mouth quivering, yells, "No prisoners!"

The Ohio vote provides a blueprint inasmuch as the motivator is the "taking away" of a right we thought we had. (Watch for them to try to remove women from the voter roles in the same way they've removed minorities--although they likely did that in Ohio already.) Their voter suppression efforts have resulted in more minorities running for office and winning, to which the GOP response has been to "buy" some minority candidates for themselves and boost them through intense media exposure. You've seen them. Just as the right wing banged the drum to warn that Obama was coming for their stinkin' guns, Dems must keep pointing and warning that "they" are coming for your right to vote, your freedom of speech (censure of Rashida Tlaib in the House and book bans), freedom of religion via Muslim bans and antisemitism, and ultimately our freedom of the press when they figure out a way to control all the media they've been unable to buy so far. They've already started taking away people's right to travel within their own country if it's for the purpose of obtaining an abortion. They've already taken away your Child Tax Credit. They've begun taking away a basic human need, that of shelter, by forming investor groups to turn single family housing into vacant offsets for tax purposes or for highly profitable Airbnbs.

Thank you, Tom, for reminding us that this is no time for reveling in the good outcomes of November 7th because the GOP will never relent until their agenda is set in amber.

I have moved savings into available account. They seem intent on a shutdown. My rent still comes due. My retirement check may be a casualty. I agree with TC, they are devoted to the idea of chump rule. As Ayn Rand said, “It’s not who is going to let me, It’s who is going to stop me.” Sorry to quote an evil cretin, but that is an appropriate quote for a different reason. I ask, Who will stop them? Who will stop them in time for us? For our children?
