Jam packed and memorable portrait of enemy #1 of Democracy in the USA. In addition, TC, (may I call you Tom?) I brought a portion of today's Thats Another Fine Mess to LFAA's forum. Here is a part of my comment:
'Anyone who thought TC would disappear or be discouraged by a squad of subscribers who called him on his use of language, have no hope or fear on that score. He will be back in all his glory. In the meantime, I took the liberty of quoting his words from today’s THE GOP REALLY IS "THE ENEMY" (TCinLA from Thats Another Fine Mess) The following are excerpts:
‘It’s not just on the crisis in Ukraine. The Senate hearings on approving Judge Ketanji Jackson as the first African-American woman to become a Supreme Court Justice have brought out the real beliefs of Republicans on race and the old Confederacy claim of “state’s rights.” …
I went on from there, but there is no reason to repeat what you have read of
Arriving at the point where Fern from NYC, Christine from FL and Ellen from TX are my top supporters is an achievement of which I am very proud. (also all the rest of you; it's a close-run race)
TC, the race we are all running is for Democracy. I had to tell you that and admit I've come to love most of your dynamic language. This is no time for tea and crumpets or turned up noses.
I must give full credit to Spock in “The Voyage Home”. For some reason, that line (along with “Everyone remember where we parked” and “what’s the matter with the one I have”) have become part of our lexicon.
His dynamic language captures how I feel or should feel or would feel if I knew more than I know. On LFAA scanned for his posts-so here I am. Thank you! ❤️🤍💙
Hear, hear Ms. McBride! I agree. I just had a post banned from another group because of it's "intemperate language...." I had merely suggested that Senator Rick Scott could use a steel-toed boot firmly and heartily placed on his backside (for some recent proposed legislation) and the ladies group evidently dang near fainted.
Well, fie on them, I say. This country is in this mess partly because of a Dem reluctance to call a spade a spade and partly an inability to believe that when someone shows you who they are, to believe them... (among a host of other reasons as well)
When you have a pigpen to clean, you are guaranteed to get dirty--might as well push up the sleeves, gird the loins and wade on in with the shovel.
T L, I don't remember when I laughed as hard. Where have you been for the last two years? I have decided to laugh Ms. Righteousness off. If fitting, I would have borrowed one of your lines. I'll have to come up with one myself, and it won't be nearly as good as yours are. Thank you for getting me in the right mood.
I checked you T L. You did address your post to Ms. If you don't mind, in the future, please call me Fern. Planted here for good reason; it's the soil, water, growth and laughs!
T L, Hello. You were the mouth speaking words in writing on this newsletter last night that spurred my laugher. What gender assumption are you referring to? I am a woman but not at all offended if you thought me to be a male and, what's more, I had no sense that you addressed your post to one gender or another. Cheers!
Forevermore… I clearly missed something… I had no idea some squad of subscribers was upset over word choices. Nice to have the privilege to choose that as your upset, no?
It's funny - Daria complained again last night about my language - but she's been someone who was always clicking "likes" on my posts there until recently. And I know I haven't changed. But don't worry. I ignore them. Unless I have to pay attention. Once I do, they go elsewhere.
My urge to do as you suggest remains powerful, TC. While not thinking her to be keen minded, last night I realized that she is stupid. It may be that she is truly unable to connect one thought to another -- more stupid and envious than a phony.
Yes, and the squad was anti-history, extremely self-righteous, DUMB and offensive... MTG 'a thorn in our side'; I wanted to copy TC's piece about her and community she grew up in to the forum. There was a point in all their garbage, but lost it with their over kill, over and over, and lack of understanding. So there!
…yes and it was weird, too, as though prohibition had returned. I was going to fight back as one of the very righteous, who has been after me since I first became a subscriber, is on the march full steam. I had a good exchange with another subscriber and decided to laugh her off.
No, No, please, Ally: How about the final chapter with no sequels, 'The End of "Karen" not the Rear End of 'Karen", butt the Real End of "Karen"? Wordy, but I think a poetic ending; what say you?
Ally, Daria has begun, actually she started it long ago, a war with me, and I am going to fight back. See the forum as she responded to my comment with regard to TC and today's, THE GOP REALLY IS "THE ENEMY". I'm thinking it would be helpful to talk to you. From my perspective, she has a lot coming to her. I can fight hard. That's the reason I think it makes sense to talk this out a bit. You know us both, of course, limited by this media. What do you think?
Going around Facebook ( zombywoof68) under pic of Judge Ketanji BrownJackson:
"For overqualified women who have to remain calm, friendly, knowledgeable and professional in front of underqualified men....Lord, in your mercy hear our prayer.......
All that data and all those numbers completely confirm your last statement: "Today’s Republican Party is both a national security threat to the United States and the “domestic enemy” of our democratic constitutional republic."
I do not like national security threats. Actually, I abhor the danger that a national security threat poses to all citizens. In this case, the Republican Party and it’s unmitigated gall and insufferable white male supremacy is a threat to the security of the world.
How dare they. It makes me afraid, but I am not scared of their puny, righteous claims of ambition based merely on greed and fear of being bested.
The numbers began to make me nod a little, but did prove your point about the true enemy within your democracy. What really fascinated me was the personal detective tale of tracking down your book's pimps for money owed and how it ends up leading to the same dark and dim mindsets.
Indeed the current republican party (lower case letters) is a national security threat and likely and international threat as well. I frankly do not use the term "republican" any longer, I see the gop (also lower case letters) as so captured after Gingrich, among others, that they'll never come out of it. But the difficulty in the United States is that the two party system has made the rise of other political parties impossible. The fringes have entered the two parties and now the gop is highly infected with right wing, fascist tendencies. It is no longer "We the people..." that motivates them. Frankly, the meaning of the 14th amendment is being crashed by states making voting regulations that do not insure that all people have equal access to the ballot. That in itself should be addressed but how to do it? That is the problem. Perhaps the only way to address these inequities is for people in the various states currently under voter suppression laws coming out in huge numbers to vote and also to demonstrate against these laws passed by people who are dedicated to the idea of democracy as a charade - kind of like Putin's version. I comment Timothy Snyder's book The Road to Unfreedom and his various panel discussions and lectures now available on You Tube as one way to dive deep into the way Putin operates. It is amazing just how similar, and almost identical the playbook, the lack of truth (let alone facts), the changing of history to suit the moment (especially since too many people have become unmoored from history), and complete fabrications. Putin is a master. I have the feeling they've all been attending Zoom trainings with Putin and his people. Anybody know?
One way to “beat” the two party system is ranked choice voting. It has the potential to expand the field and give us candidates who most closely align with our own ideology. How will they deal with that in Congress? They’ll have to come up to speed with their constituents and figure it out!
Amen, Mr. TCinLA!!! Yes we shall have to "fight like hell" to make sure our majority voice is heard!
I just read mr. glen ellmers of the Claremont Institute's "opinion" of just why the far right considers the election illegitimate and just who comprises "authentic Americans" (hint: it isn't any of us citizens living on the East or West Coast) and if that is what the far right's mainstream thoughts are...then we Dems (and progressives and liberals and literally anyone else who isn't enamored of the white patriarchy/authoritarian thoughtstyles) are in for the fight of our lives.
Thanks for these post,; he says again. I let loose in my head and generally before posting. Civility 101. Until I've had a fill. I resort to my 18 year old self. Cathart is 👍
I’ll say this TC. You have gathered a small but mighty group of subscribers. I do not have to think about propriety and crumpets quite as much on this Stack. Much more acceptance of freely expressing because the emotion is important in messaging right now. It’s war and a humanitarian and democracy crisis, not a meeting to discuss a potluck dinner. Your list of subscribers is sure to grow steadily. All the hubbub on other Stack actually brings readers. Your military historian perspective is prime time.
What a day for reading TCinLA. Two posts. I’m twice grateful. You’ve nailed the rotting GOP. The stink of their Q’s of KBJ is a rot riot. I’m GLAD it’s on TV for all to hear. It’s really disgusting. I hope to hell we can get out the vote later this year. Working on it. Turnout. Cut the head off the monster. Hope. ❤️🤍💙

вперед вперед, Forward ahead!
"Dynamic language" - I'm stealing that. :-)
I’ve always been a fan of dynamic language, Fern, as you well know. Ha!
You are a queen of it, in the 'left' way. 💓
And here I’ve been resorting to “colorful metaphors”.
Stealing that one too.
I must give full credit to Spock in “The Voyage Home”. For some reason, that line (along with “Everyone remember where we parked” and “what’s the matter with the one I have”) have become part of our lexicon.
Hahahahahahaha! Fabulous, Ally!
A pleasure.

Yea, team. 👿

You could always offer them a plate of cucumber sandwiches as an apology. :-)
Nah...I'll just fan them for a while and wait to see if they ever recover from their delicate sensibilities.
That’s right TL. I’ve had my wellies from LLBean on every day when I go to other Substack that I subscribe to.
T L, I don't remember when I laughed as hard. Where have you been for the last two years? I have decided to laugh Ms. Righteousness off. If fitting, I would have borrowed one of your lines. I just recently started exploring links recommended in LFAA. I love TCinLA's posts. And now I must both thank you and perhaps apologize?
I began reading this post thanks to your references and I deeply apologize if my gender assumption was incorrect.
I checked you T L. You did address your post to Ms. If you don't mind, in the future, please call me Fern. Planted here for good reason; it's the soil, water, growth and laughs!

BTW - you can call me "Tom" Fern.
Smiling large! Thank you, Tom.

Ha! Good point, Carla. So petty of them.

Pity her. The professional "Karen"
I'm having a great night, and it all began with "Karen". Thank you, Tom. What do you think of a short, short story called, 'It All Began with "Karen"?
Now there’s a winner. The sequel: Just More Karen.
No, No, please, Ally: How about the final chapter with no sequels, 'The End of "Karen" not the Rear End of 'Karen", butt the Real End of "Karen"? Wordy, but I think a poetic ending; what say you?
Nicely done.

I had not seen that. I’ll take a look.

YES! We are trying it in Maine. I wish we could use it with this next Governor's race but no, not yet.
Amen, Mr. TCinLA!!! Yes we shall have to "fight like hell" to make sure our majority voice is heard!
